How to Watch PIttsburgh Games without cable

Hey Folks,

I don't really know anyone around here, but I figured I'd post a diary showing people how they can watch basic cable/tv with the use of a high speed internet connection.

http://www.tvunetworks.com/downloads/player.htm

You download the player they have on that site, and pretty much the rest is self-explanatory.

I live in the boonies in Vermont, and the only TV optioon we have out there is Dish. Since the ONLY TV watching I do in an entire year is the occasional Pittsburgh game, I won't bother with getting Dish.

I have to use this TVU porgram, which actually seems to carry the Pittsburgh game on its CBS channel quite often. I then run an s-video cord from my laptop, and connect it to the TV.

I use a wireless connection at my home, and this program works well, even in the basement where the TV is. The only downside is that its about 1 minute or 2 behind real time. Not a big deal unless you are chatting with friends online, who have access to the real-time game, and they go "oh NOOOO" way before Parker actually fumbles the ball. The other downside is that it's not accessible to hard of hearing and deaf people, since there's no closed-captioning.

This would also be of benefit to anyone that isn't seeing the PIttsburgh game locally due to the market. (So, you could watch more than one game at a time)

Cool...
Thanks for sharing that. Yesterday was a time when I could have used that.

How do you get your internet access?

We have DSL out here
and its tier two service. (1.5 meg/sec down, and 786k up) Which is plenty fast for what we use it for. Will be able watch the ESPN game tonite, too.

S vid to TV
Do you need a convertor from the laptop to the TV? I've tried connecting my computer to the TV through S video and it hasn't worked.
