Watch Tonight's Game Online

This was mentioned below in the comments but I figured it deserved its own post on the front page.  Tonight's game will be broadcast on KDKA for cable folks in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland counties, along with Monongalia and Preston counties in West Virginia and Garrett County in Maryland. For more details on whether you'll get the game or not check the Post Gazette. Nationally it will be on NFL Network.

If neither of those is an option you can watch the game online here .  I have no idea what the quality is like, but its certainly better than nothing.

Another option which Ed Bouchette actually brought up was to order NFL Network and then cancel it tomorrow. The cable companies should charge you a pro-rated charge which would only amount to a few dollars. I don't know how well that will work so don't yell at me if you ended up getting charged too much. Enjoy!

Just wondering
How many of you guys don't have the NFL Network or if you do what's your opinion of it?

I've always had it, so I guess I'm a little spoiled. It's one of the better sports networks going right now (IMO), of course that probably has something to do with my complete lack of interest in hockey or basketball.

Write to your local representatives!
I enjoyed the NFL Network last year when it was included in my general Comcast subscription, particularly the 10-minute highlights of each game you could get on demand. But now they will only give it to you if you get the "sports package," and I don't feel like paying $10/month for a bunch of fishing and tennis channels. I am going to subscribe today and cancel tomorrow, but Comcast will assess a $1.99 charge for a change of service when I pick it up and when I drop it. Better than dropping money at a bar, but still frustrating.

However, I am glad Arlen Specter feels my pain:

Same here
I was paying for it for a while, but had to cut cable out all the way.  But I love NFLN.  It really is great.  I wish there wasn't as much repeat broadcasting, but that is to be expected. Good commentary and great replays of games.  And that NEw Englander who does those commercials is funny.  Ben needs to grow back the beard!

Wed thru Friday
They do need to come up with something else in the mornings besides the exact same highlights that they showed on Monday and Tuesday but other than that it's great.

Those commercials are hilarious.

The nfln online
is okay, but infuriating when they withhold live play.  I know they do this so you'll pay for their station, but it still sucks.  I listened to the Bengals/Niners game's radio broadcast online and then switched over when they switched over to live play (which is what I'll have to do tonight).

Gumbel is a moron and everyone is saying it.  He will be gone next season.  I didn't mind primetime and faulk to offset his ignorance, but he still has a lot of it.

Gumbel is a beating
I've never heard a guy make so many mistakes as he did in the DAL/GB game (including Emmitt).

I know people with PC's can
get games with Sopcast.  I have a Mac and still haven't figured out how to do this.  The legality of all this is suspect of course!

the whole subject
of where and when we get to watch the teams we love is infuriating.  I have DirectTV for example, and they suck.  Their equipment is cheap and only warrantied for 3 months.  After that, you have to buy new stuff, which usually makes them demand a new contract.  Not to mention, you have to lease the equipment, you don't actually own it.

Secondly, if you want FoxSports Pittsburgh, you have to buy the entire sports package.  How much sense does that make?  Why in the love of all that is good and holy would I want FoxSports West Coast, or FoxSports Atlanta?  That is just absurd.  Plain and simple, directtv has a monopoly and I hope that when the contract comes up in two years, the NFL does something different.  I have read that the cable companies are making a big push towards getting a share of that package.  Lets hope that that is the case.  The last I read, there are something like 1.5 million directtv subscribers who, let's face it, most of them subscribe in order to get the football package.  I know that is the ONLY reason I do it, because I don't want to spend my sunday in a bar, with smoke and a million different games on watching the steelers on a 25" screen fifteen feet in the air.  There are how many hundreds of millions of cable subscribers?  It would make much more sense and money to make it available to cable subscribers for a much smaller fee.

The sad thing is that while the NFL, cable companies and satellite companies all duke it out to make the most money, the folks who suffer are the fans.  Typical sports in America.

In the meantime, you guys should check out this site,

http://www.slingmedia.com/

The sling box is a box that you hook up to someomes cable and internet, and it lets you watch their cable from a remote distance, thru your computer.  The biggest catch is that you have to watch what that person is watching, but in the case of my brother, who lives in NY, he hooked one up at our dad's house in Pitt, and every sunday, he turns it on and watches the game.  So if you have a relative in the Pitt area, it something that you should look into.  Its pretty sweet.

DirecTV
I have Dish Network now, but I had DirecTV before.  I like Dish much better.  Like you said, the Directv equipment sucked, and they wanted you to pay someone to come out and fix it.

Verizon Vios
I has something called Verizon Vios. When I got it almost a year ago it was supposedly pretty new and not avaliable everywhere but it has all the advantages of dish (NFL Network and others) without the disadvantages of a dish (bad reception in inclimate weather).

I still can't get Sunday Ticket with Verizon but to be honest I'm not sure that I would if I had DirecTV anyways.

Dish disadvantages
There are the issues of not having reception in heavy rain, but so far my experience has been much better with Dish Network than DirecTV.  It sound like Verizon's deal is even better though.  I don't think we have it here, though.
