Greetings from Brasil
How are we gonna keep Nate? Well, I think we should give him a 3-year contract, he is the one who spreads the defense.
And dont you think for today would be good a 2-TE set and give Miller some freedom, all passes to him he did well!

Capable of being 20 yards open on every play? I am just saying…..

Alright all I have to say so far is wow
Damn good game so far.
Also, did anyone else hear Ben take control of Hines after the penalty? Beautiful!
by Romain El 82 on Oct 26, 2008 6:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nate is a burner
But the best CBs can shut him down easily on long routes, but the short routes I cant trust him!
by SteelerBrazil on Oct 26, 2008 6:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
So what do we do now?
I can’t bare to see Berger punt again….
by SteelerBuddha on Oct 26, 2008 6:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
even though this drive stalled
it was still pretty impressive and it was also very helpful for field postion and TOP. 3 and out for D and we should get it back in good postion. Huge series coming up
by Blitzburgh on Oct 26, 2008 6:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
great field position
especially after the penalty on the Giants
by Alba on Oct 26, 2008 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Much better rhythmn
I like what I saw out of our guys, but there is no question that they cheated themselves out of a score on that drive. We were inside the 40 and ended up going way back. That’s not smart football.

But how the hell is long snapper a position on a football team?
by SteelerBuddha on Oct 26, 2008 6:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
lol
well, think about it. those balls get snapped like35 mph and often times, punts dont get blocked by just a fraction of a second. anything but a perfect snap and….

careful now
next thing, you’ll be asking whether punters and kickers are real football players too
by Alba on Oct 26, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think others here have asked the same question
which led to a great thread about the ins and outs of long snapping. turns out it takes a helluva lot of skill and its worth keeping a guy to do that full time.

Blitz
As good as the team has looked, it has not looked fluent on offense, even when playing well. Mental mistakes are killing us. We twice put ourselves out of field goal range. This game could be done
by SteelerBuddha on Oct 26, 2008 6:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
well no doubt now
this second half has been mired by penalties. wasnt the case in first half. doesnt really matter though. we’re doing enough and the D’s too good. my theme for the past couple of weeks is to just do enough on O, which it has.

Implosion
Two possessions in their territory with a 5 point lead, killed by bonehead penalties (thanks, Chris K) and poor playcalling (three straight runs to the right. Thanks, Bruce.). Don’t get too discouraged by this. This game was ours, and mental errors lost it for us.

this loss is attributed to our retarted QB thinking he has 10 fucking seconds to pass it and horrible coaching, you dont go for it on the 34. 51 yards isnt that long of field goal, you dont throw it 50 yards on 4th and 14, and you dont all out blitz every 3rd down when the other team is passing in the middle of the field every fucking play

I have a hard time blaming the line. So many things went crazy this week. Injuries to key players, as well as mental errors that caused penalties. Ben held onto the ball too long at times, and the coverage was good enough to create sacks.

so who do we hire instead of BA?
Do good OCs just grow on trees? I’m no big fan of Bruce, but he gets plenty of love as long as we’re winning games – time for the typical over-reaction. Really, a close loss against the reigning champs is not that big a deal. Erase a couple of dumb penalties, and we probably win this game.

His play calling sucks even when we win. We benefited from playing BAD teams. Arians is a douche bag, ex-cleveland loser. Time to boot his sorry arse.
by vin2k on Oct 26, 2008 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Here is the deal. Tomlin needs to sit down with Arians and say, “this is our identity, get the personell on the field, get the calls called, get, set the tone”.
Remember, Tim Lewis WAS our D Coordinator when our D Sucked. Cowher met with him at the end of the year, and basically, based on his passiveness, he booted him. This is what Tomlin needs to do with BA.

One more thing
They mentioned during the game that BA is there because of his 3rd down play calling efficiency. Now, go back last year and look at the percentage of the 3rd down conversions that are based on BROKEN plays where BB inprovises vs. CALLED plays.
BA is a d-bag and needs to go back to cleveland where all the losers go.

O-line is by no means great. But, they take more slack than they should. Poor playcalling and Ben’s trying to hard to make plays when there are none are equally to blame.

I have to say, with all the issues on offense, our defense rocks. We’ll be in it at the end of the year based on the defense. Once the defense clicks (get Tone and Willie back) we’ll be just fine. Just my 2 cents.

Tough Loss - Some thoughts
Props to:
the D. Very hard fought game, some absolute brilliant stands. We could have use a turnover or two, but the truth is that you can’t hope for a better defensive performance than these guys turned in. At the end though they could not overcome the injuries, punishment and time of possession.
Mich Berger – I don’t think I’ve ever said a punter played a gutsy game before. But he did. he made a key tackle on special teams that led to an injury.
Greg Warren – never again will I question why he is on the team. May he recover quickly and never have his name mentioned again during a game.
Mewelde Moore – how tough is this guy. He played lights out and made some huge plays.
The O-Line – minus Fast Wiffie Colon – I think these guys stepped it up. It was not a great pass protection game – not because of the 5 sacks – but because of the fact that Ben was knocked down on most of his drop backs. Not that impressive – but still an improvement. But they looked good at times, building a pocket and rush blocking the way an O-line should.
Heath – remind me why we didn’t throw to him 15 times this game?
Thumbs down to:
Ben – what can I say, I love the guy, but he played bad. 5 sacks with the protection that he got was unforgivable. He has to recognize better and make better decisions. I also wonder if he was hurt, we are not used to seeing him make bad throws, which he made plenty off, especially in the second half.
Bruce Arians – I thought we were done calling his name for a little while, but his play calling (or was it bens) in the fourth quarter was atrocious. Either he gave the ball to ben and let him do whatever he wanted to (in which case he should be fired for failing to coach his Pro-Bowl QB) or he called those plays, in which case…. well, lets just say that while there has been a lot of improvement, I think he has failed to get his offense to play good football, despite having very good football players.
Willie Colon – poor protection, big penalties at key times. At least we got to see him pick up a fumble and run it. If Dookie goes down it looks like we have an heir apparent for the Return job.
Dookie – I am with Blitz, watching him return kicks is like watching grass grow. Except grass has a better chance of breaking one past the thirty.
Tomlin – Two times we were able to march backwards out of scoring position late in the game. Not sure how you cure that, but I do think that it comes back to the coach. He has to make sure that his guys are focused and ready to play. It seemed like his offense never had its head in the game.
What can I say though. Bottom line – call this one a hard fought tough loss, with some rough breaks, bizarre twists and tough injuries to a team that has suffered too many. We should have won this game.
We continue to have very serious problems on offense. No rhythmn, no identity, costly penalties, bad decision making by our franchise QB and by our OC.
But having said all of that we are 5-2 team that just lost to a really good team. I think its time for Tomlin to step in and fix some problems on offense, in the hopes that we do not waste one of the greatest defenses of all time on an offense that can’t get its collective head out of you know where.
Better luck next week Steelers!

Steelers had some good D today. Nice Goal Line stands.
But very little pressure on Eli and the Giants ended up racking up some pretty good total yardage. You gotta hit the QB in the mouth at least a couple of times if you consider your pass rush to be elite.
by bleedsblue on Oct 26, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
actually
I thought we did get to the QB. He spent a lot of time throwing 5 yard routes and such so its nearly impossible to apply pressure to such a quick play. However, it seemed like on the plays where he looked for more than 5 yards he had a Steeler in his face. We had no sacks but I thought the pressure was there.
I dont think the D can be criticized at all in this game. They played short fields pretty much all game and held the opposition to mostly field goals.

Good Read Buddha
Tough loss.. I have to kick the dog a few more times..
D played very well.. But was on the field too much..
MM has been a great fill in for Fast Willie.. How many more injuries are we going to experience? O was out of sync with important plays.. 3rd down conversion rate is poor and this is critical to win, especially big games..
Ben’s decision making was suspect.. Do they ever tell him he needs to throw within a second or two after the snap.. Eli gave the lesson on that. The O-line is on the leaky side, but that should drive quicker throws.. If not away.. Don’t want to lose the 100M QB due to a sack.. Arians fault? Let’s see what Tomlin does if they can’t handle the nest few games like this..
Anyone questioning that 400k that unknown GW gets?
NYG played well and deserve the win..

Great Game
Hey guys – I’m a Giant fan and I’m not on here to gloat. First of all great game. Very physical. I usally root for the Steelers in the AFC and against any NFC team obviously. The Steelers D is a bunch of MEN! Very tough. The Giants took advantage of the Steelers banged up O-line. Tuck played over the gurads in passsing situations and that helped the rush up the middle, thats how the Giants beat the Pats in the SB last year. If you guys had a little better O-line you would flat out be the best team in the league but good D’s can take advantage. I still think Ben is a little better than Eli but Manning has closed the gapped. He’s composed in tough games and in tough environments. He does not get rattled and he showed that today against a tough opponent. Good luck the rest of the way, beat the HELL out of th cowgirsl and deadskins and I hope to see you guys in Tampa for a rematch. What a game.
by Giants on Oct 26, 2008 9:18 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
good game by the Giants but here is a few observations from me
The Steelers O-line is banged up and questionable when healthy but I don’t think they had a bad performance at all today. They gave up 5 sacks but 3 of those were Ben’s fault. He had at least 4 or 5 seconds on 3 of them (keep in mind that the average amount of time a QB has to throw the ball is 3 seconds). He needs to either throw the ball away or run for it.
This is not a Ben bashing thread mind you, but he really needs to learn how to throw it away, check down receivers, or know when to tuck and run. That is all that separates him from being an elite QB. I think Arians, Anderson, or even Tomlin need to sit down and have a serious discussion about getting rid of the ball. I know that sometimes he makes plays by holding it but it is getting to the point where I wonder if we’d do better if he just got rid of it (thus giving up those big plays but also giving up a few sacks a game and fumbles). Somebody needs to tell him if you have one player getting to you it is ok to try and make something happen, but if you’ve got 2 or 3 then throw it away. Obviously, sometimes he can’t tell how many are about to grab him but its those times when he sees it coming that gets me. Its such a double edged sword.
I just hope we get healthy fast, we will be a great team. So long as Arians doesnt screw it up.

Great, Great Line by SteelerBuddha
“Dookie – I am with Blitz, watching him return kicks is like watching grass grow. Except grass has a better chance of breaking one past the thirty.”
Man, now THAT was FUNNY!!!!
Quick thoughts:
— Bottom line, protect Ben, win a lot of games. Don’t protect Ben, beat poor teams but not the good ones. And the Giants are a good team.
— Remember when the Steelers had an OL like the Giants have now? Until this area improves, this team will not accomplish any of its goals.
— This D when healthy is Super Bowl caliber. They have nothing to hang their heads about. Ben’s turnovers put this D in horrible situations, time and time again. And they still made big plays.
— Harrison + Timmons+ Woodley = 0 sacks. Not good. Not good at all.
— Wonder how Santonio felt watching the game? I think his punishment for hitting those blunts should be Tomlin making him return kickoffs to put Najeh out of his misery. Was it just me, or did Najeh have a couple of openings to bring some big returns tonight if he actually had any speed to break it.
— The Steelers will sign the extra long-snapper that they brought to camp (Refotsky, or something like) this summer. However, punter could be a problem. An injured hamstring on a 35-year old punter isn’t something that will heal in a week. And the way this team is beat up, you really can’t afford to waste another roster spot by carrying 2 punters. Anyway, expect P Paul Edinger to be brought to the South Side this week.
— Ryan Clark played a hell of a game before going down. He, Farrior and M. Moore are probably K. Colbert’s best free-agent signings since he’s been here. You win championships with those type of players.
— Blitz, can this OL be fixed this year? Can it be fixed next year?
— Has anyone’s opinion of Max Starks changed after this week? I saw one sack where he looked inside instead of picking up Kiwanuka outside, but this OL hasn’t been able to pick up overloads all year. Regardless, he may be a better option than Marvel Smith is at this time. And because of that bad back, M. Smith won’t be back next year. Starks could be.
— Time for Tomlin to crack the whip on Larry Z & Bruce Arians and have a sit down with Ben to get him to throw the ball away some more.
— I don’t feel as bad about this loss as I do about the Eagles game. This game could have been over a lot earlier if Willie Colon wouldn’t have held on Ben’s TD to Nate that was called back. Then again, if Colon wouldn’t have held Justin Tuck on that throw, Ben would still be picking grass from his face mask after that hit.
— Don’t be surprised to see Ben’s left thumb in a soft cast this week. Looked like to me it was popped out of place and had to be put back in & then taped up. Either that or it could be dislocated. Look for some more news on this.
Thoughts?

Thanks Truth
Totally agree on the holes for Dookie. They were there. I have so many Dookie jokes left in the tank, but you know, its just not going to make me feel better right now. At least not much better.
Also agree on Starks. He has looked more mobile and physical than Smith has all year. Both of our back-ups on O-line have been upgrades, although I will say that the ideal situation is a healthy Smith and Starks on the right side, with Willie Colon on the practice squad learning how to long-snap and/or punt.
Also happy that my Adopted Steeler Ryan Clark is getting some love finally. He played a hell of a game. tons of big tackles and a hell of break-up on the long pass play. Anyone know what his status is? I am really not in a Tryone Carter/ Anthony Smith mood this year.
