Holmes Just Issued an Apology

Here it is:

"I would like to apologize to my teammates, the Steelers organization, my family and the fans for my actions that caused me to miss Sunday's game," Holmes said in a statement issued by the team. "I recognize that I made a mistake and understand the significance of my actions and will not make any excuse for my behavior. I look forward to putting this behind me and being accepted by my teammates and the fans as part of this team."

Holmes said he won't address the issue with reporters the rest of the season. The Steelers have not said if he will play Monday night at Washington or if he was fined.

"As this time, I plan to focus all of my efforts on helping our team win on the field and achieve its ultimate goal and will not address this situation publicly in the future," Holmes said in the statement.

What are the odds that Holmes had anything to do with the above statement?  Sounds like Dave Lockett to me, all the way...

yea certainly doesn't sound like he put pen to paper

Maybe this is too much to ask, but I’d love to hear them say “hey I made a stupid mistake but I promise I’ll never do anything to disgrace myself, my team or family again.”

agreed but

all teams always take care of helping craft these apologies. not worth the risk if they let the go go up there and say it himself.

I know, I just find it amusing

I wonder if they actually sent Holmes a copy of this

“I’m sorry I got caught with those blunts. I must have been high or something.” ?

Thoughts

- I agree that the apology seems very formal. I don’t know if that’s the best desription but basically I mean that it does seem like it may have been written for him or something along those lines.

- Maybe he had a different (more sincere/heartfelt) apology to his teammates. That’s what really matters anyway, rather than his public statement.

- Anynone know when we would find out if this is is first offense with an illegal substance (enters more frequent drug testing and often not made public by the NFL) or his 2nd (where he gets a 4 game suspension)?

Probably

won’t find out until the league issues it’s suspension. Generally, the first that the public finds out about the first offense is when they are suspended for 4 games for the second offense.

Before editing...

“Dumbass Ho in fronta me takin FO’ EVAH to move her fat white booty into the next lane. So I’m layin on the horn and givin her the finger when the Pigs pull up alongside me real sly like. DeWayne dropped some super Cubans on me at the strip joint and I forgot about them cause the skanks we ended up with had better stuff. Then I’m out lookin for Halloween stuff to send to the Florida kids, they sittin in the ride an’ I get busted. Sucks, man, it really sucks!”.

seems to me

that you can either be a football fan or a racist, but it’s got to be tough to be both. What do you do, just root for half an O-line, some Tight Ends and some Quarterbacks?

All teams have PR people and speechwriters to script public images. And all players have been coached on what to say in every situation. He said what he was told to say, just like when I’m sent to a meeting with a partner company my higher ups give me certain things to say … and certain things to avoid saying. Scripted apologies as are necessary. And I’ve scripted apologies for my assistants as are necessary.

For example: Robert, I’m terribly sorry if my designation of you as a racist insults you. I do not know you personally, and the only data available to me is located within the archives of this board; I understand that perhaps there are elements of your upbringing that could be deeply ingrained, and I understand that geographically, Western Pennsylvania seems to accept a certain amount of prejudicial behavior and rhetoric from its citizens. If in fact you are not a racist, than allow me to apologize for misinterpreting the semantics of your online compositions. I offer that with sincerity. If my conclusions are correct however, and you are a racist, than I have done nothing to warrant a public explanation. If I have caused you any embarrassment by my initial outburst, or even by this subsequent commentary, I apologize for the undue attention brought onto the topic; I do not, however, apologize for the opinion that the topic is an important one, and I genuinely believe that if someone has a deep, true, and severe problem with the African American community, than he or she is probably better off becoming a cricket, bowling, or hockey fan, so as not upset him or herself with the large number of African American participants and employees of the National Football League. Again, my apologies as are due, and my thanks for your time.

LOL, I'm being eviscerated on another thread for arguing the merits of Leftwich vs. Roethlisberger

…anyway, I didn’t think it was a particularly race sensitive issue. Matt Jones went through the same thing, probably worse. The jargon may have been different, but I’m sure his unedited version of the events that led to his arrest and suspension were similar.

With some degree of exagerration, obviously, that is what I could hear Holmes saying…

careful

just leave the borderline racist stuff. you know its in there. and you know some people dont like it.

call for Leftwich, hate on the coach, whatever. just dont be racist. period.

wow

Pretty harsh there Ethan…

I for one am glad he apologized. Whether he wrote it or not he DID apologize. Some players wouldn’t even do that (T.O. for example).
I’ll welcome him back, so long as he doesn’t do this again.

This is not a big deal, just that he was dumb enough to be gettin high in his car on a traffic stop or whatever. Players have done much worse and got away clean.

Huh?

And the Ravens are criminals? How many of them have been suspended or arrested this year?
