How Many Steelers Will Be Pro Bowl Bound?

Pro Bowl voting is now open, so with nearly half the season in the book, who do you see making it to Honolulu. My picks below are barring extended time missed due to injury.

Locks:

Troy Polamalu, James Harrison

Barely on the outside but looking in:

Ben Roethlisberger, LaMarr Woodley

Longshot but possible if multiple invitations were turned down:

Nate Washington

Should be locks but no one knows his name:

Aaron Smith (perhaps his finest year to date as a pro)

Yours?

Locks if the second half is like the first half: Harrison, Polamalu, Woodley, Hampton

Can make it with a strong second half: Ben

Should make it but won’t have a chance: Aaron Smith

Smith will never make it because his contribution to the defense is largely invisible. He doesn’t get sacks, and he doesn’t get many tackles. Unfortunately, there isn’t a stat for “blowing up running lanes” because he and Big Snack would lead the league.

yeah

Doesnt help R Seymour is back and healthy and playing good football. Hes the main 3-4 guy that steals much of the pub.

ward?

1000yds and double digit td’s isn’t out of the question. ward could make a PB esp. with receiver numbers down in cincy and new england.

by 36chambers on Oct 30, 2008 10:43 AM EDT reply actions

true

hes got some nice TD numbers. Andre Johnson in Houston is a lock though. B Marshall too probably. V Jackson in SD has nice numbers. You may be right though, gets a little thing after that, though Moss still has some nice numbers. Ward could be an alternate, you’re right.

Plus, since publicity has a lot to do with it, him getting a little more national attention this year than usual may push him ahead a few spots. Maybe those fines will turn out to help more than hurt him.

Agreed

on most, except Nate, He will be around 4 tds and 700 yards at most!

Santonio I thought could be his year!

For me, Lamarr and Harrison can buy flights to Hawaii NOW!

Hampton shouldnt go, PRO BOWL IS KINDA RIDICULOUS, Poz didnt deserve last year, Faneca too, but some positions they just go by name, the others just by stat!

IF pancake was a stat for WR , Ward should go! He is having a great year! I Think only Marshall and Johnson are better on AFC!

Aaron SMITH SHOULD GO! He , Keith Bulluck and LFB are so underrated!

hey!

IF like 15 WRs turned down their invitations..Nate could get a call

LFB?

Maybe that’s London Fletcher-Baker or London Baker-Fletcher, whatever he goes by.

Aaron Smith

Guys, we control who goes to the Pro Bowl. We’re Steeler Nation and should have the power to get Smith to his rightful place. It’s not hard or time consuming to vote. BTSC gets about 2,500 visits per day, if we all go vote we can make a difference.

VOTE AARON SMITH TO THE PRO BOWL!!!! (the ballot takes some time to load so don’t give up)

+1,000.000,000

You know what, golden, lets make this thing happen. We should shoot a couple of posts up there and really make this a mission for Steelernation. Talk about a guy who is having a monster year and couldn’t be more deserving of the honor.

nice

Whatta ya say blitz? How bout weekly reminders to go back and vote again? Cause I don’t know about the rest of Steelers Nation, but I tend to lose track of things without reminders.

How could we all forget about Spikey???

He hasn’t missed a ‘makeable’ FG since 2006 and he’s shown some good distance this year. Add Spikey to the should make it list.

lol

Id LOVE to. But Rob Bironas is equally money and Tennessee seems to be the best team in league history the past two years not finishing drives and giving him opportunities.

London Fletcher

hehe! THe guy is undersized, some guys complain he doesnt make many tackles for 3less yards! But he is a heck of a pro! Also could add this balot James Farrior, I am always mad when we talk about how great our LBs are and some guys,(most non-steelers fans) always say Joey Porter bla bla bla! For me Farrior will always be our best LB in this Cowher era, and OUR BEST FA acquisition!

voted for smith

also voted for mewelde, not so much because he is a probowl returner, but he deserves recognition in general.

Hopefully Not

Tomlin as the AFC Coach!
Seen too may Steelers (Cowher) coach the Pro Bowl Game. It only means they lost the AFC Championship.

My picks

Obviously LaMarr Woodley and Harrison. I think Polamalu is in for sure. Hes having a much better year, and he was able to make it last year. He is one of those “name picks” so if were going to cry about Aaron Smith not getting in lets just smile that one of our guys is a national favorite.

On offense, I like Ben’s odds. I mean lets look at the QBs in the AFC? Maybe Bret Favre, Philip Rivers, Jay Cutler. None of those are locks even. Heck Peyton has more INTs than TDs this year If I’m not mistaken.

Kudos to Skippy but he isnt gonna get in, nobody likes him enough.

by Mechem on Oct 30, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

QB's

Yes, none of them are locks, but I think the fact that our D eclipses our offense so much makes it tough for Ben to compete with QB’s who run offenses doing the eclipsing (Cutler) or who just steal spotlight based on rep (Favre, Manning, etc.) You know what would be funny is if Tom Brady got voted in. Disgraceful to all that is football, but funny nonetheless.

my pick

Locks: Polamalu, Harrison, Woodley (hes been in the spot light too much to not get votes), Aaron Smith (I think he’ll get in this year, the announcers for all the televised games praise him and we’ve had a lo of televised games).

Possible: Ben (but hes got to have a great second half, which he can do), Ward (hes been in the spotlight a lot too), Miller (TEs haven’t been doing much this year, you never know), Hampton (by prestige), and Farrior (maybe).

Could have if they weren’t injured: Parker and McFadden (the later especially, man he was playing well).

by shleeve on Oct 30, 2008 3:53 PM EDT reply actions

+1

I was thinking B-Mac probably lost a pro-bowl spot with that injury. He’d been doing enough to warrant it.

I also think Aaron has a better chance then usual because of his injury last year and how it reflected on the defense. Announcers are keying on that and so he’s gotten a little press. And the 4-3 DEs aren’t the sack monsters this year that they usually are. At least I haven’t heard much from them. Seems most sacks are coming from OLB.

Ward and Ben have a shot if they clean up their play in the next few weeks.

by Chicago Steeler on Oct 30, 2008 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea.

I think a lot of people, with help from the announcers, realize how important Smith is to the D (especially after what was witnessed last year). And hey, even if he doesn’t get that much attention from fans I am sure coaches have noticed, and they have some say in who goes to the bowl.

I think if our D doesn’t have at least 4 players in the pro-bowl this year than I will be upset. This D has been amazing.
