Steelers vs. Jaguars - 3rd Quarter Open Thread
A+ game from Arians and his offense so far. An early pick and one nice Jags drive keep this game close heading into halftime, but we're really in control through two quarters. The Jags won't be rolling over so it's imperative we play to win and go for the kill in the second half, not just hope to hold on.
GO STEELERS!

stat lines
Nate: 5 for 82
Holmes: 3 for 54
Ward: 4 for 48
Heath: 4 for 43
Moore: 11 for 46 (and 2 rec for 13)
Russell: 4 for 20
The only problem is the missed passes.
Ben is throwing it an awful lot – 18 for 29. O-line is looking decent, no more false starts.
pressures been good
Garrads been on the run.

Garrard is a bowling ball
Seems like tacklers just slide off him while he barrels around.
by BallsofSteel on Oct 5, 2008 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions
garrard
Has done a nice job making a few would be sackers miss. But theres no denying the fact hes been under heavy pressure for most of that 2nd quarter.
by Michael Bean on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Agreed
We’re bashing them. Our front 3 are just pushing them back. I’d like to see a Timmons or Troy blitz up the middle, seeing how weak they are there. The sacks are a nice number, but they don’t tell the story of a dominating first half.
by BallsofSteel on Oct 5, 2008 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions
BTW - Steelers only blitzed once
But it seems to be working. Remember Garrard’s highlights from last week. This is a very disciplined D

no - got it.....
I was off in la la land. Thought we were talking about Ben being sacked
by SteelerBuddha on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Collinsworth said we only blitzed once during the first half. Intersting stat considering the pressure we have been able to get.
Ed bouchette had a good article on this today actually…
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08279/917571-66.stm
We haven’t been blitzing much at all.
LOL - agree
but he is funny. People ask stupid shit. He give stupid answers.

Look at 'Em...
Trying to rip off the Terrible Towel.
2nd half
We need to limit mistakes here and let the D carry us to victory if the offense doesnt click like it did in the first half. Itd be easy to think we have it all figured out on offense and force some things. If it’s not there, no mistakes!
Picked Up...
The blitz. Good o-line play by them.
HOLY CRAP STEEL NATION
Steelers passing and not getting sacked? 3 step drops? 300+ yards of offense at halftime? Jags only have 49 yards at half? Have only seen one smug look from JDR all night?
BE STILL MY HEART!
PS-Anyone think the D is just looking “average” tonight? Or am I just imagining that, because the O is on the field so long/doing so well?
serously
They all look like they have the Bug. Horrendous outfits too.

It's Jacksonville
Standards are lower, naturally.
interior is the weakness of Jags o-line
I love the play-calling by Lebeau to bring the best pass rushers on stunts right up the middle. That’s how you take advantage of young interior lineman without much playing experience.
good call syrs
Absolutely correct.Astute. We’re bring all our stunts inside.

In all fairness to Hines some of those ball arent on the money and are being squeezed into tight spots
hines
Not at all worried about him. You dnt just suddenly develop a case of bad hands in your 30s. Hes just a bit off and like you said Ric, there have been lots of tough plays. Makeable plays, but very touhg ones.

Time to...
String together a nice punch in the mouth in the form of 6.
Mewelde is more of a faulk, addai runner
than a willie even, or najeh or bettis. we need to spread and run a few draws.

We Took...
Mewelde out of the game, which makes no sense to me.
was just our first drive
Ben will have a talk with him, don’t worry. This is what i was worried about, going away from what was working. Just one series though.

lets hope they
dont stick with that offense, 6 point wont win this game
sorry, thats

Honestly guys, I care about holds, but not that much. I care about bullshit roughing the passer calls and crap like that.
The deal with the holds
we’d have a lot more pressure and sacks on Gerrard if those would get called.
im ticked about the Passinterferene in the 2nd half
That was total BS. Whatever about the roughing, though that was BS too.

But these are the kinds of plays that makes Ben think he can do that all the time, holding on to the ball too long.
