Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Steelers vs. Jaguars - 3rd Quarter Open Thread

A+ game from Arians and his offense so far. An early pick and one nice Jags drive keep this game close heading into halftime, but we're really in control through two quarters. The Jags won't be rolling over so it's imperative we play to win and go for the kill in the second half, not just hope to hold on.

GO STEELERS!

They called a hold on harrison’s guy, are these refs okay?

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 9:51 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just giving up the ghost. Give it up jags, give it up.

Taking a knee

They are genuflecting to Dick LeBeau and the Steelers D.

thatneeds to change too.

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 9:59 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

stat lines

Nate: 5 for 82
Holmes: 3 for 54
Ward: 4 for 48
Heath: 4 for 43
Moore: 11 for 46 (and 2 rec for 13)
Russell: 4 for 20

The only problem is the missed passes.

Ben is throwing it an awful lot – 18 for 29. O-line is looking decent, no more false starts.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 9:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No sacks yet, lots of hurries but we need the sacks.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 9:59 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Lebeau is the king of adjustments, but I’m not sure that we want to adjust…

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 9:59 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Garrard is a bowling ball

Seems like tacklers just slide off him while he barrels around.

by BallsofSteel on Oct 5, 2008 10:01 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I’m fine if he barrels for a yard or throws for incomplete passes though.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:01 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

garrard

Has done a nice job making a few would be sackers miss. But theres no denying the fact hes been under heavy pressure for most of that 2nd quarter.

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Our Dline gets serious push and holds the point of attack on runs, I’m very impressed.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed

We’re bashing them. Our front 3 are just pushing them back. I’d like to see a Timmons or Troy blitz up the middle, seeing how weak they are there. The sacks are a nice number, but they don’t tell the story of a dominating first half.

by BallsofSteel on Oct 5, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BTW - Steelers only blitzed once

But it seems to be working. Remember Garrard’s highlights from last week. This is a very disciplined D

by SteelerBuddha on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

NFL.com says no sacks for the Steelers

by vin2k on Oct 5, 2008 10:01 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no - got it.....

I was off in la la land. Thought we were talking about Ben being sacked

by SteelerBuddha on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They are way, WAY too in the game for how the numbers look. An INT for 7 and a good runback will do that for you though.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Collinsworth said we only blitzed once during the first half. Intersting stat considering the pressure we have been able to get.

by frankrmineo on Oct 5, 2008 10:02 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ed bouchette had a good article on this today actually…

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08279/917571-66.stm

We haven’t been blitzing much at all.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bouchette is great, although he can be a condisending prick, espicially during hs live blogs

by frankrmineo on Oct 5, 2008 10:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He is effectively the worlds largest douchebag in live chats. He writes much better articles than the other PG guys though.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:07 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

LOL - agree

but he is funny. People ask stupid shit. He give stupid answers.

by SteelerBuddha on Oct 5, 2008 10:07 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

sometimes when i am in his live chat I wonder why he even does it with his lack of effort

by frankrmineo on Oct 5, 2008 10:08 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

A lot of stupid questions, but sometimes he dodges a question I really want the answer to.

Douche.

Moore has 46 yards on 11 carries, not bad.

by vin2k on Oct 5, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

2nd half

We need to limit mistakes here and let the D carry us to victory if the offense doesnt click like it did in the first half. Itd be easy to think we have it all figured out on offense and force some things. If it’s not there, no mistakes!

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 10:07 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

man, what a difference TP makes.

HOLY CRAP STEEL NATION

Steelers passing and not getting sacked? 3 step drops? 300+ yards of offense at halftime? Jags only have 49 yards at half? Have only seen one smug look from JDR all night?

BE STILL MY HEART!

PS-Anyone think the D is just looking “average” tonight? Or am I just imagining that, because the O is on the field so long/doing so well?

by Romain El 82 on Oct 5, 2008 10:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Jags are just “fake tough guys”

by Steeler Ric on Oct 5, 2008 10:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

interior is the weakness of Jags o-line

I love the play-calling by Lebeau to bring the best pass rushers on stunts right up the middle. That’s how you take advantage of young interior lineman without much playing experience.

by syrsteelerfan on Oct 5, 2008 10:15 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Absolutely correct.Astute. We’re bring all our stunts inside.

by frankrmineo on Oct 5, 2008 10:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It’s gotta be the Jaguars. I saw both games against them last year at Heinz Field, and I need to see them lose bad.

by Alba on Oct 5, 2008 10:18 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Baltimore was fun, but jags is a bit better.

by steelguy99 on Oct 5, 2008 10:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think hes earned his job.

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 10:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Jags first. Colts seccond. Pats third. For me at least.

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 10:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not at all worried about him. You dnt just suddenly develop a case of bad hands in your 30s. Hes just a bit off and like you said Ric, there have been lots of tough plays. Makeable plays, but very touhg ones.

by Blitzburgh on Oct 5, 2008 10:20 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs
