Pittsburgh Steelers vs San Diego Chargers Open Thread
Big moment in the Steelers season. Time to reestablish some sense of dominance at Heinz Field. Time to again put our defense to the test against a dangerous offense. And most importantly, time to bump our lead in the AFC North back to 2 games with just six to play.
Join the fun during the game here.
GO STEELERS!

game day!
the defense will come to play. no doubt about it. they may not dominate but they will play well enough. if big ben doesn’t F-Up royally (like he has been doing all season) then the steelers will win. hopefully that won’t be too hard a task to ask ben. DONT SCREW IT UP!!!!!!!!!

wow
snow showers in the burgh. looks like light ones, but hmm, lets see if we can run the ball some.
Can the Steeler CBs hold up?
I dunno….but I’m praying that the LBs can get great pressure on Rivers to take some off the stand in CBs.
confidence blitz!
what could be bad – helps our d hurts their o

yes but
they have a better short passing game than we do

William Gay does’t look confident does he?

i’m not confident about this challenge. looked like some of the ball might have hit the ground. i hope i’m wrong, but i’m nervous…

Well...
Way not to run the ball against this defense in this weather. Thanks, Bruce.
it sucks to waste such a great int by troy. so disappointing not to get some points there.

dont really love the decision
to kik a 51 yarder in the snow. Havent there been like 1 kicks over 50 yards in the history of Heinz??
and with these field conditions
think that was a TERRIBLE call…go for it Mike

I can just hear it now. “We will never use horrible field conditions as an excuse not to kick a Hail Mary field goal…”

bullshit call, no offense, shitty field conditions
i’m REALLY excited about the rest of this game…
wow. this, to me, is absolutely worst case scenario. how we can be down 7—0 right now is awful. just awful. terrible job by the steelers. you can’t blame just that call. we look weak.

no way man
D was fine in tough conditions…..
can’t lay that one on them…. ridiculous call – gives them a td
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 4:38 PM EST up reply actions
don’t agree at all. you give up an 18 yard pass play on third and short? you give up a 10+ yard run to l.t. on first down? you just let him run it right up the gut for the t.d.? mental mistake by a. smith on the off sides call? terrible job by the steelers d. they look flat and underprepared to me. not a good start at all. i am hoping they can turn it around.
...die trying

third and short is quite an easy place to get burned for a biggish pass play as you are leaning more to defend the run…L.T. is still a premium back who can be expected to bust good runs every once in a while against even the greatest of defenses….everythings going to be alright. breathe, trust in the team.
by TheCincinnatiConqueror on Nov 16, 2008 5:04 PM EST up reply actions
OK guys
Don’t panic – this does put us in a bad hole considering the weather and our dinged up secondary… but now is gut check time for this team. They have to start pounding the ball against a pretty weak Chargers D
BTW Kudos to russel
Looking good in Kick returns -almost wipes out the horror of Dookie….would love to see him get some carries as people have mentioned…
BTW
Did you guys hear that first sack by San Diego in four weeks… we really make any pass rush look fierce
Careful
If he goes down they are going to have to call Randy Grossman out of retirment

Cincy-Philly...
Tied at 13 with a minute left in OT.

penalty kicks
each field goal kicker lines up at the 40 and has 5 tries. Part of the new 18 game season, keeps players from getting hurt

Our o-line
Should start collecting money from Defensive ends around the league for helping to pad their stats.
RUN THE FOOTBALL
Red zone sacks are on Arians. I don’t care the circumstances.
God Bless
Our o-line. God bless each one of them.
fuck
our o-line is a joke. play calling is a joke. i almost want to turn the tv off.
it would be great if the d can keep this to a 3 and out.

sigh...
still, we’re playing well in general – O looks better than it has done…
gotta step it up though!
agreed
we need to finish…we put together some nice plays, but for no points yet.
It would be great
if we weren’t down 7-0 in a game we have dominated
It would be great if
we didn’t give up two sacks in one quarter to a team that had none in the past 16
it would be great if we
could run for three inches
And...
I do believe that goes down as a sack.
Cha-ching
Come on wood you are falling behind… can’t take that….

Now back to the crazy Steeler O
Why don’t they run the I-Formation??? At the goaline that would be nice.
BTW -
need moore in there.. to keep willie fresh – don’t care how good he is running – we saw what running the wheels off gives you. Can we please, please not do that again. Please? Please, please.
Nate
Needs to learn how to run hard with the ball from Hines. We should have had 7 if he hadnt been so weak down there
dear nate washington, learn to fight for yards like hines ward.

dear speath
good job learning to block from hines
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 5:06 PM EST up reply actions
seriously
i don’t care if it worked. why make it so obvious we won’t run? they don’t even have to worry about the draw
by syrsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2008 5:08 PM EST up reply actions
Dear Hines
Quit taking holding lessons from Willie Colon
Holding?!?
Come on – Holding needs to be a 5 yard penalty. Its a bullshit call – that can be called on every single play
Good Lord
This is starting to look like the Philadelphia game. 3 sacks already.
the left side of the line blocked no one
that one wasn’t on arians or ben
Moore ran right past the D-lineman who made the sack
Why would he let him go to go help on the double team further away? I mean….did he think BB would just zip out of the way???
+1
i guess he was just confused, thought the guard would get him or something. but that’s terrible. just terrible.

Troy vs LT – what is the other/
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
he's got good ball skills
for a converted DE
agree - heads up -
usually you let it go inside 10 – but that one hung and he guys behind him when he caught it
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 5:18 PM EST up reply actions
run vs pass
looks like 11 pass att vs 10 runs so far. Let’s see that run number go up a bit more please. Maybe some PA pass C’MON STEELERS!!!!
let me get that straight
grabbing the guy around the waist – is a no call
standing and holding your ground when a guy runs into you is a 35 yard penalty?
We've Lost It
We’ve officially lost our identity of a power team.
yup
we also don’t have the personnel for it.
carey davis is a better blocker than he gets credit for, but a real blocking fullback creates just enough space on that 3rd down.
And our line can’t move anyone anyway.
by syrsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2008 5:26 PM EST up reply actions
i agree. they should make a rule against that.

with this D… we could be undefeated
by syrsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2008 5:28 PM EST up reply actions
LOL
how is that not a hold on deeboo – he dragged two o line men into the backfield my goodness
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 5:29 PM EST up reply actions
Why not just make it easy
and make any contact with the QB an automatic fine. Take the guess work out of it
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 16, 2008 5:30 PM EST up reply actions
Keisel
will hear from the league about that
omg. did anyone see james harrison taking on two defenders and forcing rivers out of the pocket into kiesel’s arms?

Good things could happen
Maybe they get 3 or 7 right here and now and then after the half adjustments can be made!!!
it's on the O, not the fans
we’re playing like philly
by syrsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2008 5:34 PM EST up reply actions
Snapping
has been awful last two weeks. Ben is 6’5" and he had to sky for two straight ball. That means less time to look downfield. Thank god, our O-line is the best in the league, and gives him the extra second to adjust
second guessing is lame BUT
there have been lots of calls i dont like in this half. Kicking that FG in these conidtions was dumb. Not trying a QB sneak on the 2 foot line or on 3rd and 4th and 1…Just not good, imo.
Why
Did we re-sign Ernster? He was inconsistent in the pre-season. Why did we not just work some other guys out.?
because our punter holds for Reed
and he had familiarity doing so. Not a big fan of that.
tho this one is on retkofsky
by syrsteelerfan on Nov 16, 2008 5:37 PM EST up reply actions
maybe he was the best at catching the high snap

Interesting...
Jacksonville is up 14-3 over Tennessee at the half.
ben's stats
are great, but he’s on pace to throw 46 times
Man
Heath must be jealous, wondering where all these throws to the tight end have been when he’s been in there.
