Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Still think we should cut Ben?

To all of you haters who were up on Ben last week, he played really well today.  He may not have had the touchdowns, but he still played a heck of a game.

Thank you to the Steelers for playing hard today and not throwing this one away.  Hines played hard and got flagged for some bull.  The refs were horrible, even the announcers talked about it once.  Lets just be glad we have a great team and organization.

To those of you who ragged on Ben.....

in the interest of keeping steelers nation united

im going to edit that last line of the fanpost. I FEEL YA MAN! And am thinking the same thing. But we were pissed about the discord because we thought we should be unified in our support. Now we open the bandwagon back up with open arms, not hostility.

Sorry to censor.

The refs..

…maybe they’re sending Tomlin a message about spouting off for no reason in front of a big T.V. audience on MNF. I’m sure most of them saw that, not just the ones who were working that game. Instilling an “us against the NFL” mentality in your players is a bit like instilling an “us against society” mentality in your kids. It’s a dead end street.

Penalties

No idea what the refs were doing. Not only the calls they made against the Steelers but the no calls on SD were even more egregious. Anyway, I hate to bring the negativity, but I don’t think Ben played that great. He played better, for sure. He also played well in the fourth quarter, which is vintage Ben that has been notably absent.

Hoewever, he made some bad throws and checked down too often, checking down even when receivers were running wide open down the field. I think he is still showing some effects from the shoulder injury, as evidenced by underthrowing Santonio when he was open on that first drive deep ball. Maybe this is why he was reluctant to throw to open receivers later in the game.

This game is a good sign that Ben is getting back to form, but I think he is a long way from being “back.”

guess u failed to see

it was snowing and windy. Ben made all the right decisions. So long as he’s completing a high percentage, not turning it over, and averaging a healthy YPA, which he did, I’m fine with him checking down perhaps too much.

haha

Well, how can you be happy if you’re worried about his checkdowns? We rag on him for too many interceptions and when he’s safe with the ball you hate on that?

With this defense Ben can check down all he damn well pleases. Just never, ever turn the ball over. It’d help if we had a punter that could punt it further than me, but i’ll take 0 turnovers over most other stats. Especially when our TOP was so good.

who are you carl.

I cant stand ignorant mindless commentary like that. I wont even bother about it. He played very well and a very impressive game. All this throws were extremely accurate and very few qbs could make the pinpoint throws on the move, under pressure, like he did. He is definately BACK TO FORM.

I think carl just likes to stir up trouble. and thinks that by dissenting he’s showing off some sort of football brilliance…which i do not see.

the beauty of the human mind is that each one sees things differently. While I wouldn’t agree with the stash that Ben checked down “too often,” I have trouble thinking that Ben’s shoulder is completely healed as well. It’s pretty clear that the snow and wind had a lot to do with Ben not chucking it deep (thank God), but a stiff shoulder in the cold has at least a little to do with it.

But yeah, checking down too much is a good thing in my mind. The clutch throws (ie, down low to Ward at the end) are back, and I’m pumped for the Thurs night game to see what we can do.

well carl

is allowed to have his own opinion and wasn’t saying anything offensive or downright dumb (like some people do on this board, not saying any names, but you know who you are).
He sees too many checkdowns as a negative, most of us see it the other way, and thats fine. He didn’t say something like “Ben’s an idiot, I hate him.” Therefore I found nothing about his post that would deem it mindless or ignorant, just a different opinion.

He was being positive about Ben, saying he is getting back on form, and I agree. I wouldn’t say Ben is back completely yet. He’s still not seeing the field all that great. A couple of the sacks were on him again. One where he took forever and the other where he ran right into the defenders. There was another time where he started panicking even though he had great protection. While I don’t agree that he checked down too much I do agree that he is back on track just not all the way there yet.

Anyway, don’t be hard on Carl, his post was fine. I’ve never seen anything hes said thats been totally ridiculous. We have other people for that (once again, you know who you are). Besides Carl has a great name.

Exactly

Don’t mean to seem negative. Ben is definitely getting better. But let’s not forget who Ben was last year: a guy who made big plays with his running and deep throws, as well as the short throws. That’s what we need him to be again. Ben was great on the short throws, but he is still missing an element of his game. As long as his big play ability is back before playoff time, I think we will be fine.

After Thursday night

Think how much time we will have between games after thursday night. Something like 10 days or so. Thats almost like having another bye and its perfect timing. We made it through todays game healthy, think that is a first for the season. Plus we play the bungles Thursday night who didn’t sack Ben at all the last time we played them. So Ben should be feeling a little better by the time we play NE.

Plus we should get Heath and B Mac back too!

Lol where is the beerman

Notice Beerman isnt even posting…. Cause the only thing he says is no longer valid.

Ben played a heck of a game. Throwing 40+ in the snow and still completing over 75%?!!!

i am still here

and no i am not ready to proclaim ben is the almighty yet. he did not make any mistakes today and played well. he got his team in position to win the game at the end……..HOWEVER!!! he needs to be consistent from week to week and not be the liability he has been over the past month. if he lays an egg thursday vs. cincy this game will be completely forgotten.

I guess this is the most positive we are going to see you get but here…….heres some kudos to you for trying.

Alright alright

I give you props for not only showing up, but actually making a sound statement.

I think this game confirms what most people realize, that these last couple games were a bit of a bump in the road. He played great in 07, and in the start of this year, and had a few bad ones. Hopefully he is back on track.

Beer man

is going to be going to the cincy game. I’m almost positive he’ll be wearing a leftwich jersey

lol lets keep an eye out

Cant wait to watch that.

Actually there is a very good chance Lefty will play, when the Steelers are up by 30 in the 3rd quarter.
