The RAVENS

This team has me quietly scared at this point.  My 3rd Steelers *road* game ever was in Baltimore Last December and that is of the most hostile enviornment I have ever watched ANY sporting event in.  They made the Eagles fans look civil if you can believe that.

We have to play them in B-More in a couple of weeks and the Ravens play us like it's their superbowl.  We better have our hats strapped on tight because the first game in Pittsburgh was like the rumble in the jungle.

I know we need to win more games but this one is going to be HUGE!!!

Not Scared

First, from a Steeler fan in B-more, who hates the ravens, I will admit that game will be very tough. My hope is that they(ravens) have another lost by the time of the game. It’s imperative that we win the next 2 games, I would hate to have that game decide the division. I will say that the only reason that the game will be hard hitting is becasue it’s a division game, and those games are usually pretty close. and pretty hard fought. At this point in the season, and after watching every steeler game, I FEAR no one. Our DEFENSE is playing at such a high level, that I like our chances no matter who or where we play. The ravens history is very easy to follow, they almost never lose to a team that’s below them, rarely loses to a team that is equal to them, and never beats a team that is consider better or elite. (Case in point, their 4 loses: Titians, Steelers, Colts, and Giants,) all teams that you would consider better than the ravens. The ravens thrive on turnovers, so if we can keep our turnovers to a minuium and we play our game(I will talk about our game in another post) we Win. The Steelers win the division with a 11-5 record. The Ravens are a FRAUD.

How can you be scared

Lets consider their wins…
The greatest achievement they have is a win over Miami. Miami folks. That is the only .500 team they have beaten.

Their so called epic defense has been raped in half by the Giants and Colts. They had a SHOOTOUT with the browns. The Browns.

Our defense has never broken. Even though we gave up 24 to the Colts, they got some HUGE breaks in that game.

And 19 to the Giants offense, well that was courtesy of some simple errors in a game we could have been up 21-7.

They will not win. I hate em, and they Stank!

did you forget you all beat us in OVERTIME???

on monday night football where i believe your team is undefeated… The way you are talking you should have DESTROYED us in the game earlier in the season since we suck against teams that are “good.” A win in a win in the NFL.

And how did we have a shootout with the browns???
28-10 week 3
37-27 week 9

Does winning by ten constitute as a shootout?

And whoever was mentioning common games… Didnt you all LOSE to Philly… just checking?

Anyway like i said, you all beat us in OT in week 4 by 3 points. And that was before our offense started taking off… so yeah, you should be nervous. Hell we should both be nervous, we can take away your chance at winning the division and getting your bye.

i also want to note...

This has really been eating me. Everyone is hyping up that Giants loss too much. The loss wasnt as bad as it looked. We lost that game on TWO plays by an INJURED Derrick Mason.

Pass dropped in the Endzone would have made it 17-20 -actual score 10-20
Pass dropped for an INT that resulted in a TD wouldnt have made it 10-30

without those two plays by an INJURED D.Mason, the score is 17-23 Giants which is a much closer more manageable game.

JUST WANTED TO POINT THAT OUT

I think they should be scared of us.

I see what you mean though. When i see this game on the schedule i kinda cringe a little bit just because they always put a beating on Ben. Overall i am not that impressed with the Ravens. You have Ray Lewis constantly running his mouth, hyping up their defense like its the toughest unit on the block. Not so fast RayRay. Your D was once dominant, but is now on the down slide. It would now appear that the Steel Curtain is the most feared defense in the league. I hope Hines adds Ray Lewis to his hit list. Then smiles in his face.

I'm trying to be objective here

But it befuddles me and strikes me as ignorant when people say stuff like “Your D was once dominant, but is now on the down slide.” What exactly makes you think that? Actually, on second thought, I guess you’re right in that the Ravens had the best defense ever in 2000, and now they are only second in the league.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Yeah second.

A distant second. Our “D” is bordering on all time great. That’s right! I siad it. That means even better than than ’oo Ravens! Oh, and btw, ’76 Stillers—Best defense EVER!

I was curious yesterday about the 00 ravens and wanted to see how their stats stacked up. From what I remember…There are some areas where the steelers are better, and they are these:

Passing yardage – Our passing defense is great.
Sacks – We have more sacks than the 00 ravens season, right now

That’s about it though. The ravens 00 just was that good.

Scoring – 10.x points allowed a game. Not kidding.
INT/FF – Extremely opportunistic defense, got tons of points and turnovers
Rushing – 60.x points allowed.

I think our team is the best defense in the league right now and have played against some extremely good offenses. Lets see how they stack up against the patriots. I’d like to see them generate more turnovers, we all know they’ve had the opportunities. I’d also like Ben to stop turning the ball over so they can bring their point total down.

Your defense is great this year, but it does not come close to what the Ravens did in 2000. Not only did they give up something like 10 points a game during the regular season, but they singlehandedly won the Super Bowl.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

What makes me think that?

I know stats don`t mean everything but the Ravens are currently 4th in points allowed, and in the top 5 in most other categories, but #1 in nothing, except talking. I`m not here trying to say that the Ravens D is not a scary unit that raises all kinds of hell. I give respect where respect is due, but yes it is indeed on the down slide. Ray Lewis is still playing at a high level but the guy is what? 34? He only has a few more good ones left in his tank. Both corners look like their knees might turn to dust with the next sharp cut. Steelers have a few oldies too now, dont get me wrong, but most of them are entering their prime. I will even revoke my last statement saying the Ravens were “once dominant”, and agree that they still are. It just seems like the days of mauling people are almost over. 2000 was almost 9 years ago Baltimo.

by SteelerDomination on Nov 29, 2008 4:54 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Again though why are they #4

They are number four cause theyve basically played dookie teams and beaten them.

And yet again as I mentioned, they engaged in a mild shootout with the browns, got blown out by Indy and NYG. WE put up 23 on them. Although I guess some of that was defensive. But still.

They are hype and they will be exposed by the year end.

I just love looking at common wins

Honestly I think common games tell a lot.

Look at Baltimores points allowed with Cleveland, Indy, and NYG:
27, 31, 30. What about us?
6, 24, 19.

Consider the simple fact that we basically HANDED the game to NYG and IND and whats that show you. Our offense has been the only reason we’ve ever lost a game

I just watched the Pitt D against NE..I was hoping it would give me a good measuring stick but NE made some unreal bad plays before half and could have easily been up 20-10. Moss dropped everything, kicker missed a chip shot, Welker was open only to have Cassel have the worst game of his life..some by D others by mistakes..I learned nothing much about Pitt today. Their very good but I’ll reserve comment until we play. We dominated most of the last game but a rookie QB mistake and a cheap personal foul penalty killed us. Our rookie QB drove down the field to take it into OT but you squeeked by at home.

As far as the 00 Ravens- We had 0 offense and the other teams O had the ball probably 20% more than an average game. Our D was always on the field and could have imploded mentally but overcame that and thrived. The only receiver we had was Sharp and a rookie (ish) running back in Jamal Lewis. We went 5 games without a TD in one stretch and managed to win 2 of those….Amazing. I’ll check Pitts stats in February and we’ll see.

I don’t think your D would survive a bad offense because you don’t come near the ball hawking the Ravens did. We are never high on sacks because thats not the gamble we want.. We want to take away the run and force the pass for Int’s. We have 20 int’s this year with new DB’s (1st in NFL). We are on our way up D wise. Check this out:

Bannon- 28, Landry 26, Leonhard 25, Jarret Johnson 27, Nakamura 22, Ngata 23, Reed 30, Bart Scott 28, Suggs 26, Walker 27, Zbikowski 23, Antwan Barnes (linebacker) 24, Jason Brown 25, Chris Chester 24, Ben Grubbs 24, Jameel McClain 22, Tavares Gooden 24…on and on with younger talent. these guys are all starters or have started…pretty old dudes huh. Ravens 27 Pitt 17. See ya then.

sorry

i don’t see baltimore scoring 27 points. the 17 for the steelers may be correct, but should also be enough to win.

yeah maybe 27 is too high but i’m going off our 20+ from the first game with a very very rookie QB and things have gotten much better since then. not sure if your D has changed as much as our O. your O is still the same more or less with Ward saving the day on 3rd and longs. all said 24-17 Ravens. hows that. also please notice how i comment on Ravens after a Ravens post was opened. i’m spouting off on a steeler party post. RAVEN headline seemed like an invite.

not sure what the last part was about

i don’t care if you post in here, i’m not the king of teh intarblogzzz or anything. i appreciate that you haven’t resorted to name-calling or anything, so you’re cool by me.

as for the post, i feel like the steeler d has improved as the season’s gone on. i just don’t see the ravens breaking 20 points, regardless of how much flacco has improved (and he has). the secondary has stepped it up of late, it seems like. mcgahee is also a non-entity at this point, and the steelers have enough horses to not get worn down by mcclain like other teams would. i’m much more worried about ray rice than mcclain. who knows though…i’m usually the last person to make predictions on scores, because i don’t have any responsibility to back them up, and it’s not like i’m in the locker room. i usually go with a “i feel good about their chances”.

for this game, i feel good about the steelers’ chances. that’s more or less all i can say. it’s gonna be a good one.

Sorry dude. There’s a reason our defense allows an average of 14 points, and it isn’t because we’ve played crappy offenses all year. The ravens offense is better then cincy’s and the browns right now for sure, but the steelers D has performed at a much higher level than the ravens O.

I watched yesterdays game against the bengals. I’m certainly not going to say that “the ravens beat themselves”, but their CBs really did play awful. That won’t happen against the steelers.

I don’t think your D would survive a bad offense because you don’t come near the ball hawking the Ravens did.

The 2008 Steelers have the 24th ranked offense in terms of points scored and 24th in YPG.

The 2000 Ravens had the 16th ranked offense in terms of YPG and 14th in points.

Nice try?

Score:

Raven 0, Baltimo 1.

How can you say you learned nothing about our team? Silverback forced turnovers on back to back drives. Polamalu the beast picks his 6th of the year. How many ravens have 6 picks? How many ravens have 10+ sacks?

Watch your mouth son. Your gonna have a silverback sized foot in it.

we are a TEAM

thats why I believe we lead the league in INTs right now with TWENTY INTERCEPTIONS… so you keep your 6 ints for troy, and ill keep the 20 team picks…

as per sacks, i think we’re doing hurries right now with the way the INTs are looking… and im fine with that.

Guys, the proof is in the record. Our offense is worse than yours and we’ve won more games. That means our defense is better. Good luck next year!

by steelguy99 on Dec 1, 2008 8:38 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I was correcting "raven" as he was wrong

And now I need to correct you. The Ravens have had 3/4 of their defensive backs out for the majority of the season and still lead the league in interceptions. We don’t have any one guy with six picks because our shutdown cornerback and pro-bowl caliber safety are out for the season, with our other former pro-bowl corner severely nicked up. I didn’t even include Ed Reed in that equation and he suffered a career threatening injury.

yeah the Baltimo transplant guy was right…your offense stinks. my mistake. i didn’t realize it was worse than our 00 team…man thats bad. do you think it will catch up to you?

I didn’t learn squat about the ravens when they played the eagles? I can’t believe McNabb and Kolb just handed you that game will all the interceptions. It’s really too bad that the ravens only “good” win of the season was just a botched attempt to play football by the eagles.

Is that really what you want me to say?

uh no

No it wont. Because our defense is the best damn defense in football.

And our offense tossed up 33 against the Patriots. So our offense can show up when it wants.

ravens are frauds, bullies and any other name you want to use.

there are many things that I hate about the ravens, nothing about them scares me. The steelers are simply a better TEAM. I’m glad that raven lovers post here because it gives me a chance to really expose them for the frauds they are. 2 reason why I don’t like them is because they are team who always think they are better than they really are, and they are a team who caught lightening in a bottle ONE year and has done nothing since. They are a team and fan base who always lives in the past, they compare everything to 2000, let it go, what have you done lately? Nothing. Since you like stats, look up their 5 year history from 2003 to 2008, average team at best, they have 40 wins, the steelers have 50. They are are a very easy team to follow, their m.o. is very simple, they beat up and bully the little sisters of the poor, but when it comes to the big stage, or teams that are considered good teams they lose. Look it up. Their 4 loses this year: titians, colts, steelers, giants, all teams that are considered good, and who have winning records this year. Every big game they lose, they cry like bitches, ie: new england last year, colts in the playoffs, steelers, this year, titians this year, giants, this year, it’s always blamed on ref’s or couldn’t, wouldn’t shouldn’t. It’s never because the team stood up to them and smacked them back. I HATE them. Even up, just like any other game if we keep our turnovers to a minuim, we beat them. I along with thousands of other steelers fans will be in their stadium waving our terrible towels like crazy. Go Steelers
