Steelers vs. Redskins - 2nd Half Open Thread
Well, another half, another confirmation that we're not going to win any style points on offense this year. But once again, our defense has come to play! 4 sacks in the first half. And despite some so-so punting from Mitch Berger, our special teams gave our team the boost it needed with a huge Andre Frazier blocked punt.
10-6 heading into half.
Just win, baby.
Go Steelers!

oh, anyone know the status of their running back?
—portis gimped off the field, and i don’t recall him doing anything since…
He came back in

Anybody else notice that Ike failed to "catch" the ball that was sitting on the ground after the punt block?
i was just thinking that...
—really, we have been butterfingers tonight… hopefully the balls will be a little less slippery in the second half

Ben........PLEASE!!!!
THROW THE DAMN BALLL THROW IT AWAY THROW IT BACK (OUT OF BOIUNDS OF COURSE) THROW IT UP, JUST STOP GETTING HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats wrong with his hands?

Santonio.....
You should have caught that touchdown pass
60 minute men
I'm not against Tomlin...
But this is why I miss Coach Cowher. Guaranteed, the Steelers run 13 straight times in the opening drive of the second half. He chews the ass of every offensive lineman in the locker room and they just destroy the front four…set the tone! Get mean!
OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I like that thinking……………ten says BA never even sneezes at the idea

because it's relevant tonight...
did you guys hear the revelation this week (I think it was this week), that Cowher was offered the HC for Redskins before Zorn?
yea saw that
not sure what hes holding out for. john fox in carolina seems to have secured his job with this season. not sure what other jobs might be opening up that seem intriguing but it may be a couple more years till we see him again

Why do the Steelers have Ben telegraph the snap by doing that horse stomp as a silent count?
Oh thats right our O-line cant do it without it. Sure does give Defense a tip-off on the snap count
That Shaq commercial is funny

I’m likin’ the 46 kind of look with Harrison and Woodley lining up on their weak side. Get Timmons in there, have him drop into zone and bring Farrior into the B gap…F with them a little bit.

I think Kornheiser is dumb for saying Pittsburg was almost out of it early when they were only down 6, no?
(Dumb for the substance of the statement, not Korneiser dumb in general?)
typical hyperbolic stuff from him

yeah shoulder
cant even lift it up to cheer
by Michael Bean on Nov 3, 2008 10:35 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe its Ben
Maybe its not Bruce… maybe Ben and his ailing shoulder are the problem.
Leftwich stands in, avoids the rush with his eyes down field, and unloads the ball on time down the field. Ben would not have done that the past few weeks
The pass to Mewelde is a throw that Ben DOES NOT throw, and he would have taken a sack…
I'm not saying Ben sucks, he's just not himself
by FireAriansNow on Nov 3, 2008 10:35 PM EST up reply actions
yeah
I think that bottom line he has been playing hurt
by SteelerBuddha on Nov 3, 2008 10:36 PM EST up reply actions
the reason Ben's not himself
is because the play calls have left him open to being sacked all season. some of the sacks are on Ben for holding on too long, but I’m not ready to forgive Arians
theres some truth to that
We cant get ahead of ourselves yet about what Leftwich will be able to do but its very conceivable that Ben has been the main culprit for the past month
by Michael Bean on Nov 3, 2008 10:36 PM EST up reply actions
new QB confuses the defense
They’ve been gameplanning Ben. If you bring in another competent veteran, it sometimes throws the defense off.

Why...
Do we keep that reverse to Nate in the playbook? We run it every week and it never yields any results.
let's go D
let’s get that TO we’ve been so close to
i went back on that woodely sack near the goaline
and it was clearly a fumble. should have been a TD.
Ya know what's great about Potsie?
We got Farrior from the Jets, and he’s been to a few Pro Bowls and has been the part of some great defenses. The Jets got Faneca from us, and…uh…they’re pretty much the same offense.
woah
a) portis ran under James Harrison and b) lawrence timmons is fast
I think he had possesion then fumbled

Last I checked, Tony...
Pitchers aren’t being chased by large men paid to kill them. Because of that, I think the length of a QB’s delivery is at least kind of important.
Yeah NO SHIT!!!! I WAS GONNA WRITE ABOUT THAT

Remember how excited we were for Holmes this season?
I figured he was going to turn into a player, not just an “outside-the-numbers” pass over the shoulder receiver.
He’s not. He hasn’t improved at all from last year to this year. We can find a Nate Washington from Tiffin College to do what Holmes does. We need receivers (ahemSpaeth) to actually create separation and hold on to the ball. There’s a reason no one will ever wear No. 86, and our last two big wide receiver acquisition are in the numbers of the two most notorious quarterbacks in the franchise.
holmes will be fine
hasnt had a chance to prove himself at all this year

Ok, someone disagree with me. Invariably, the face mask is going to make contact with the opponent’s face mask when they collide.
Well, unless he’s hitting him below the shoulder, which is also illegal.
