Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots - Gameday Open Thread

It's been ten days since we've seen the Pittsburgh Steelers. Who knows what to expect on the road in hostile territory but I can't wait to find out!

You know the routine here.

Go Steelers!

Going to head to the bar shortly. I am going to need to get absolutely loaded for this game. I’m nervous as hell. I hope the steelers back up my claims this weekend with the enemy patriots inlaws in my house.

I must go to a bar today too, not showing locally.

Let's Go!

Word on the street (http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/) says that McFadden isn’t playing today. You can read past posts for the reasons why that may not be the case.

Personally I feel that if McFadden is not playing solely because of his FO-status he is not welcome in Pittsburgh. He needs the door to kick his ass on the way out. We don’t need selfish school boys on our defense.

FWP Unseen So Far

My cuz works the sideline at Foxboro. Says there hasn’t been a sighting of the fast one as of yet. Possibly not going to go today?

Not on TV over here...

…I’m in the NY Metro area. I’ll have to seek out the game from an online stream. I hope I find a good one!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

What do you do when you're underage and the game isn't showing on TV?

And you live in Chicago.

Things could be worse. We could have kept (name redacted).

Live stream

http://www.myp2p.eu/

You’re going to have to download a bunch of programs, however.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Dammit, the Ravens won today!

Online?

Guys, can someone help me out with a link to an online feed? The one on channelsurfing.net is not the best of quality. Thanks.

hey crew

Just joined… already having heart attacks. What happened to Russel returning kicks????

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:18 PM EST reply actions

Then again FWP

sure looks like his knee is doing allright

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:18 PM EST reply actions

ok

I see how this game is going to go

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:20 PM EST reply actions

I've Had It...

With Tomlin taking the ball to start the game. If you win the coin toss, you let the defense establish the tempo.

by Hines Ward on Nov 30, 2008 4:20 PM EST reply actions

shooting ourselves in the foot...

why do we ALWAYS do that against the Patriots?

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:20 PM EST reply actions

how do you do that to yourself?!?!?

that was just ridiculous, seriously I am not reactive, but if that’s were Ben’s head is then sit him down and let him collect his thoughts, that was one of the worst interceptions I’ve seen him throw.

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:23 PM EST reply actions

OMG

That pretty much sucked. Restart

Im in detroit and for some odd reason they switched the CBS broadcast to Denver @ NYJ.

Why I’ll never know.

But WTF is Ben doing. And for the love of god, run the ball…..

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:27 PM EST reply actions

Why is davis doing the kicks

Where is russell? Im blind to the game so I need you guys to fill me in.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:27 PM EST reply actions

listening to hillgrove and ilkin on the internet, they are saying that both kicks have been short, and taken by davis who is playing up in front of russell.

Is there a reason the guy who busted off a 13 yarder is not carrying now?

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:30 PM EST reply actions

really hate the way we are playing

it seems that the Patriots always have our number. Is it too much to ask that we come out fast and really play well against these guys?

Welcome To Ground Hogs Day

this is every Steelers/Pats* game (sans one) over the last 10 years.

Lets not lose hope

We gave JAX a pick six, we can still come back

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:31 PM EST reply actions

I am not sure

these guys really have our number. It seems that they just fall apart mentally playing the pats. Look at Ike just blow a coverage. Have you seen him do that all year?

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:33 PM EST reply actions

Its a mental thing

Its like, since theyve sorta owned us we cant get over it.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

yeah

we are trying to do too much. Ike was going for the pick. He ended up looking foolish.

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

not ready

players look like they are sleepwalking.. wtf?? come out and be on your game.. ready to play… been 10 days.. would think you would be fired up and ready…

BTW

Harrison wasn’t held on that he was tackled

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:35 PM EST reply actions

OK

Nice return by Holmes. Great stand by the D. Now its time for our boys to wake up and start playing football.

Think that is just what we needed

by graysteel on Nov 30, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

yeah Holmes can

Unfortunately we only use him in “special” situations. whatever the hell they are.

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

time for ben to shine

let’s move the ball this time…

by BoiseSteeler on Nov 30, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

Uh we need a TD

He didnt run it back for a score so until we match their points I dont see anything to be happy about.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:37 PM EST reply actions

returns

helps when you dont have a FB returning the kicks.. i like davis but he pretty much runs right up the middle waiting to get tackled..

by StinkBomb on Nov 30, 2008 4:41 PM EST reply actions

I still can’t understand that first throw. What in the world happened to him there? It was like he just couldn’t see the guy standing right in front of him

i like our division to win but ,man, am i stuck today…do i have more faith in NE not knocking us out of the wild card or Pitt winning the division…regardless, either way is good and i will enjoy this game…Nate is a season saver.

kinda suprised there wasn’t a challenge there

by schnifin on Nov 30, 2008 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

Bummer

Wanted that 7 – this is not going to be an easy day to score….

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:45 PM EST reply actions

had to kick

since we cant get it done on short yardage :-(

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:46 PM EST reply actions

Wowwww a FG had NO balls

How you gonna kick a FG…

You need to score. Look what we did against SD, if we lose that 4th and 1 we can get a safety. That sucks.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:46 PM EST reply actions

Momentum...

Just went down like a needle in a balloon. Poor call, Tomlin.

by Hines Ward on Nov 30, 2008 4:46 PM EST reply actions

I think they gave us the spot of the 1st push

I thought he clearly got the 1st on the 2nd effort

by shleeve on Nov 30, 2008 4:46 PM EST reply actions

they should've

challenged the spot of the ball…all he has to do is break the plane of the line of gain needed, just like the endzone…

by SteelCityMafiaNewOrleans on Nov 30, 2008 4:46 PM EST reply actions

With your D always go for it on 4 and 1.. its worth more than a FG to back a team up like that..especially away!

by raven on Nov 30, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

man

Honestly I couldnt see the play (online) but still. You gotta go for that. Thats steeler football

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

rain

were in some bad weather.. shouldve gone for it and forced them to make plays at their end zone if we dont make

by lostinbrownscountry on Nov 30, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

if that was the endzone

they wouldve challenged. how foolish ]we sometimes are when we don’t apply rules or principles in an “across the board” manner

by SteelCityMafiaNewOrleans on Nov 30, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

dudes in the booth need to be on top of challenges…many teams suck at them

by raven on Nov 30, 2008 4:48 PM EST reply actions

idea

If the steelers are so bad from 2 yards out from a TD, why not PA pass?

by Ragnar808 on Nov 30, 2008 4:49 PM EST reply actions

I agree

We did a short TD pass to the flat for Gary russell against the bungholes why not try that.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:50 PM EST up reply actions

people say pitt fans travel well…true, BUT having yellow shows up better on tv and is not always telling…the ravens changed their event staff jackets to red because on pitt games it added more yellow…i wrote letters about that : )

by raven on Nov 30, 2008 4:50 PM EST reply actions

miller

why dont we go jumbo and then send miller out… when was last time we did that at the 1 or 2?

by agentorange on Nov 30, 2008 4:53 PM EST up reply actions

Great Defensive Stand

We have gotten really lucky on a couple plays. The non-call on William Gay and the drop by Moss. Both should have gone for long yards. I am not sure I like the idea of a three man rush. It seems that we are just giving them a chance to make a play especially when the guys we have rushing are Hampton and Kirschke.

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 4:53 PM EST reply actions

good

so wheres the damn deep ball given the overall suckitude of the pats 2ndary

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

well, theres something positive then

I’d like for us to give willie a lead blocker too

by shleeve on Nov 30, 2008 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

by shleeve on Nov 30, 2008 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

no NE won’t even come close but he is capable over all and at that opporunity (respect to steelers) you would out will them for the first down with a huge D top back it up…

by raven on Nov 30, 2008 4:53 PM EST reply actions

It seems like every week its the bengals, browns, lions

cause it is

And they lose to everyone good

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

i hate the pretty boy patriots and would on most occasions want you to stomp the crap out of them and their stupid minutemen d-bags in the end zone.

by raven on Nov 30, 2008 4:55 PM EST reply actions

ok we are right in this thing

They punched, We countered. Now lets GO!

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:55 PM EST reply actions

No, we get all our good stats against the browns and bengals..12 years worth! our very own bitches. when Jamal Lewis ran for 2100 he had over 500 against the browns…if they didn’t exist Billick gets fired 5 years ago! Agree but hopefully we learn to beat winning teams.

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 4:57 PM EST reply actions

by SteelCityMafiaNewOrleans on Nov 30, 2008 4:58 PM EST reply actions

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 5:04 PM EST up reply actions

This is why I wanna slap ben for that pick because without it the Pats have NO points.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:02 PM EST reply actions

how many points?

do you think ben is directly responsible for giving the other team… take them off of our total points allowed and it would be simply amazing

by lostinbrownscountry on Nov 30, 2008 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

exactly

I mean seriously between this game already, NYG, and IND. He has to be responsible for 28-35.

We are out playing them on Defense. But special teams and offense are making just enough bone-headed plays to keep us in a serious hole.

by graysteel on Nov 30, 2008 5:24 PM EST reply actions

Now convert this 3rd

we better score before the half, cause our HC loves to give the other team the ball.

You should ALWAYS defer. especially with an epic D

when did ‘delayed handoff’ replace ‘the draw play’ ?

by StinkBomb on Nov 30, 2008 5:25 PM EST reply actions

Run on 3rd and 2?

I am sorry. Someone must have spiked my egg nog with high grade acid. Because I must be hallucinating.

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 5:26 PM EST reply actions

Not so sure

Great blitz. But Ben would have made the first guy miss. It was the second guy who was COMPLETELY unblocked, that made it impossible.

by SteelerBuddha on Nov 30, 2008 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

Why the hell did we stop running

You run for 28 yards on 4 carries, why did you stop.

Soon as you pass you friggin get sacked. RUN THE BALL UNTIL ITS DEAD

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:26 PM EST reply actions

There are four other teams giving up more sacks than we are?

by StinkBomb on Nov 30, 2008 5:27 PM EST reply actions

love how we're giving the defense some rest

and maybe we’ll even score on this drive?

by Alba on Nov 30, 2008 5:27 PM EST reply actions

just run the ball

How can you pass after a 10 yard run. Its not right. Its unamerican. Its insane.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:27 PM EST reply actions

why not keep running? Arians game plan has been lacking as usual. Empty backfield on 1st down and mega 3 and 4 play then punt.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:29 PM EST reply actions

yeah

Since they cut the 5 yard incidental penalty, he basically has to give you a neck re-adjustment to get the call

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:38 PM EST reply actions

sad to say

but I’ll be happy to be down 3 at the half

no

I want a pola-bear pick

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

if they score

If they get a TD how demoralizing is that.. You go from tied to down 7 and they get the ball.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:40 PM EST reply actions

OMG

we totally lucked out again with Moss dropping the ball

by Alba on Nov 30, 2008 5:40 PM EST reply actions

That would have been a very good time.

good call kneeling it

Lets be thankful we are where we are. Lets walk into halftime and ponder our 2nd half.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:43 PM EST reply actions

Wow.

I said earlier I would have been happy to be down 3, so I guess I should be ecstatic right now. But I’m more stunned by those last two minutes than anything else.

by Alba on Nov 30, 2008 5:43 PM EST reply actions

yep

now it’s time to breathe…and relax…

by Tizoc on Nov 30, 2008 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

much worse

We’ve dropped more balls than an all male nursery

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry

You know, young boys “balls” drop and a nursery is where a lot of young boys would be….

A stretch but better than nothing.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

I need to see this team score from 2-5 yards out. The steelers have failed many times at that. It’s why they aren’t winning right now.

I think that’s the biggest problem right now……of course there isn’t a Bus to bring in, but why not GR from 2 yards out? Why not a PA pass and bring it in with ben, or lob off to ward or miller. there’s gotta be something unpredictable that they can do. NE just ran those two draws and it was great play calling. The steelers need to match that. they had that nifty delay run call earlier. How about some more flea flicker on a short yardage call?

by Ragnar808 on Nov 30, 2008 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

Couldn't Have Played Any Worse

They are so lucky! Regroup and come out spitting fire. Maybe Arians can recuse himself from the second half

When You Run The Ball Good Things Happen

by 5020 on Nov 30, 2008 5:44 PM EST reply actions

Now its a 30 minute game

Basically the game got cut in half. We played an even first half. Now we have 30 minutes to outscore these guys.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:45 PM EST reply actions

Weve definately played better

We have played some good ball actually. Our offense moved to the redzone well, our defense has locked em down good. ST hasnt killed us.

If we took that pick away were up 7.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:46 PM EST reply actions

Sometimes

our D doesnt play so hot at the end of the half and game. This is a little worrisome

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

We had better do something about

those delayed handoffs. Really fooled the “D” bad twice!

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 5:55 PM EST up reply actions

we almost had 2 int.

I got to believe it’s just a matter of time b4 we get a turnover this game. Lets’ take it but not give it away!

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 5:47 PM EST reply actions

lawl of course

In my preview, I said 27-13. That is still a possibility. People called it crazy to say the pats would score just 13, but when you look at this game, we basically spotted them 7. So it is possible.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:56 PM EST up reply actions

jets are losing...

in denver wins and steelers win, that just makes the playoff scenarios better for pitt.

by Ragnar808 on Nov 30, 2008 5:54 PM EST reply actions

not so fast

Realize that if Denver wins and we lose, the pats now rise up to the division lead I believe. I dont want them in the playoffs.

We have to win. I hate the pats and they stank.

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

not yet

well lemme know when it shows up

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 5:59 PM EST reply actions

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 6:02 PM EST reply actions

Bossin up Defense

that right there just put them out of FG range

by Mechem on Nov 30, 2008 6:02 PM EST reply actions

not a "special" stuation anymore.

We arent losing now or something. Cant risk holmes now. stupid.

by Jonny B. on Nov 30, 2008 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Guys

move it over to the 2nd half thread

:)
