Mitch Berger Released.

As per www.steelers.com.

http://news.steelers.com/article/98986/

I have to imagine this is a good thing.  Mr. Mitch sure as hell wasn't doing much on the punt end of things!  I don't know too much about the guy we signed yet, aside from what the short article on the steelers website had to say.  Not a bad average for yards per punt.  Any thoughts on this guy, or does anyone know anything about him?

You can delete your own fanposts if you really want to under “manage fanposts”. Probably be good as “recent fanposts” is getting crowded – can condense your commentary into the other post.

well

Am I the only one who thought Mitch did well?
I mean, Our special teams coverage was solid and a lot of the time that has to do with the punter. I am not sure why he is catching such a bad rap…..I thought he did well. Not to mention the guy punted in two games with a hamstring injury! I was impressed. He gutted it out.

As far as Ernster goes, he’s not horrible but I thought Berger was better. However, I think Ernster was the front runner to win this job in training camp until he hit that one shank in the preseason.

I don’t think he’s getting a bad rap; I personally thought he did great while he was in there given the circumstances, but it just doesn’t seem like a good idea to play a punter with two screwed up hammies. I wouldn’t have minded Berger sticking around, but there was a drop off in productivity.

Berger

Berger was a good punter in his day. The Steelers were less than enthralled with Ernster in Latrobe and brought in Berger off his couch. He easily out kicked the shank king from Cleveland and won the job. Unfortunately I believe old Mitch is not healthy at mid season so they cut him. Wish they would have found anyone but Ernster.

There are plenty of local guys that can punt better than Ernster. They can find them every weekend down at the high school football stadium on the south side, only 2 miles away!

He did well when healthy

Bottom line was he did great before he got hurted.

He did boss up and play hurt that last game. But you cant keep playing someone if they are hurt especially when talent is available.

This last week was not very good. And I’m convinced we lost philly due to the punting game. Sam Rocca was giving us hell and we couldnt do much back.

Why Ernster?

Didn’t this guy lose the job originally? Was the kid they signed to the PS last week that bad? Ahh well.
