Game moved to 4:15

You can see it in the schedule here;

http://www.steelers.com/gameday/schedule/

But there has been no official announcement regarding the time change.  It's going to be the CBS game of the week, getting national distribution and the #1 team of Nantz and Simms (see here: http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/2008-15-CBS2.html ), but that don't mean shit to me because I live in Boston.  Just screws up a party I was going to go to.  Gah.

Anyway, consider yourselves warned.

Thanks for ...

the heads up. I had resigned myself to going to Applebee’s as we’re forced to watch the Chiefs otherwise. This gives me hope. Unless of course, NFC has the 4:15 game.

You can check the maps at www.the506.com for what is being broadcast where. They are user-verified so they are typically pretty reliable.

where do u live

tenthmntman? I live in Arkansas, and we are forced to watch Chiefs games too. (That’s why I sold my soul and own direct tv)

by steelerark on Dec 10, 2008 4:52 PM EST up reply actions

Location

We live in Lansing, KS, just south of Leavenworth. TV was showing the Oakland game at 3:00 [in Chief’s division], but they’re switching to the Denver v Carolina game [e-mailed station programmer]. I’ll just execute my Applebee’s game plan—beer & chicken wings 1st Quarter, entree at half time, coffee and thriple chocolate thunder in the second half.

Only thing I’d find of value is the NFL on Direct; otherwise I think T-W Cable is very good here. Debating on figuring way to have Direct during season only.

Simms

I am so sick of Phil Simms. Doesn’t it seem like he’s done 11 of our games this year? I don’t want to hear how Belichik is great, the Steelers pride themselves on being hard nosed, the Colts can air it out, etc. He is the king of stating the tired old storyline a thousand times a game. I swear he misses half the plays while trying to think of what team/player specific cliche to use next.

by CarlWeathersMustache on Dec 10, 2008 1:18 PM EST reply actions

dude

I am so sick of Simms and his "Phil-osophies to win the game’ or whatever he calls that shit. He’s almost, almost mind you, as bad as Dierdorf. I cringe when Dierdorf is calling our game.

by steelerark on Dec 10, 2008 4:53 PM EST up reply actions

Nobodys worse than Aikman

When he calls his own team, Troy is just an absolute tard. I loved him calling the game a win for the Cowgirls as if the game was over. He literally sat there and said something to the effect of “its great for them to get this win”

This was with like 12 minutes left in the game lol….

by Mechem on Dec 10, 2008 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

see

I’ve never heard much homerism from Troy during games. I always thought that he and Moose do a pretty good job as announcers. I’ll go back and watch that part of the game again tho.

by steelerark on Dec 10, 2008 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

It was either late 3rd quarter or early 4th.

But my dad almost rose out of his seat with anger. How the heck do you refer to the game as a Dallas win, when they are only up 10 with about a quarter to go.

They were clearly up 13-3, that much I remember.

by Mechem on Dec 10, 2008 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

I’ve always felt Troy did a decent job of avoiding homerism. In fairness, I thought it was over when we were stopped on the goalline, the way our offense was playing. Not a big Aikman fan, but I’d rather hear him then Phil Simms.

by CarlWeathersMustache on Dec 11, 2008 9:06 AM EST up reply actions

Really?

I really like Aikman when he is broadcasting any other game, but I can’t watch him do Cowboys games. He slobbers all over them.

by frankrmineo on Dec 11, 2008 10:09 AM EST up reply actions

I agree 100%

Its like watching a porno the way Aikman gets on his knees for the Cowboys.

Not that I blame him, I’d be a homer for whatever team made me a millionaire.

Im not crazy about the Simms Nantz combo either.

The local burgh guys are good, cept for friggin Sally Wiggin runnin around.

That sucks

My son will be mad because he works at 5 every Sunday and they keep changing on him. Good news is they can’t move the Titan game next Sunday. We may be at the game anyways.

by Mechem on Dec 10, 2008 4:53 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, Pats in NE here. This game is too important to watch on the computer..

So I am making all these elaborate plans to get the kids out somewhere, the wife happy, etc, and then I’ll be able to jet out to the nearest bar with the NFL package. (Backstage in Essex, Jct, if there’s any other VT’ers here)

If anyone is stuck watching games they don’t want to see, and also happen to have broadband connections, try watching the game here:

http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=26212&part=sports

Should be the page for all the streaming links for the games. Once in a while you can get something above 300k, too. It’s definitely better than watching the game center crap with the play by play and moving football graphic. Exciting!

That was how I watched the last Bengals game we played. It ain’t football, but I have to say it was better than reading the scrawl, looking for changes in the score.

Bar in NH

I’m traveling this weekend out of Pittsburgh (where Steelers coverage runs 24/7 — yes I’m spoiled, I know) to Keene, New Hampshire. I won’t have any good access to the game besides a bar, so any good suggestions to watch it?

I checked Post Gazette’s listing already. Just wondering if there are any other good ones out there. Thanks.

by R.Clemente on Dec 10, 2008 11:50 PM EST reply actions

Keene is beautiful

Forget the bar stool. Hop over to Jaffrey and take a hike up Monadnock, or something.

by Varmint on Dec 11, 2008 12:17 AM EST up reply actions

Yuck.

Its going to be sleeting from now until Monday from what I can gather. A trip up Monadanock might cost millions of dollars and thousands of lives. Stay inside with football.

There are bars in Nashua and Manchester, and you could maybe even dig one up in Brattleboro, VT, which is closer.

I live in Tampa

and I almost threw my computer out the window when I saw that map. The English language cannot express how pissed I am. I DO NOT want to be in public for this game. I’ll be making up new swear words by the 4th quarter. I might actually get into a fight if there are any ravens fans out and about (doubt it).

For some reason they ALWAYS play denver down here, yet I’ve never met a denver transplant. They played Jets/broncos over Steelers/chargers and I was ok with that because I knew this game was changed to 4 and it would be on. I guess they think we give a crap about carolina since they play Tampa. Steelers/ravens is just for the division and the 2 seed. no big deal. Why not play an interconference game against two teams that have probably met once in history?

Oh my god I just thought about it again. Look at that god damn map. TAMPA! WHY? WHY AM I TORMENTED? HOW WILL I BE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME AFTER ALL THE YAEGER I’LL NEED TO GET THROUGH THIS PRIZEFIGHT??

ok sorry rant over

Denver gets all the play time

they played Denver Jets over NE Pitt the other week by me. Are you poopin on my face?

Denver for some reason gets lots of CBS time. Why I have no idea because I very rarely if ever see a Denver fan in the area. I live in Detroit mind you.

Since you are in Tampa you should be eyeing up the Steeler super bowl tix.

I still hate myself for only being 15 when the SB was in Detroit. To think, my favorite team, and in my town. Once in a lifetime shot. Alas, I had no access to a credit card.

At the very least if things go our way I plan to DVR the game, go to Rayjay (15 min from me) tailgate like it’s my job, then get back to the crib and fire up the game. But there is a lot of work to do before that can be planned.

AAAAGGGGHHH!

I usually watch the game at one of the many incredible Steelers bars in ATL (Smithe’s Olde Bar being my favorite). So it’s no big deal when the game is not broadcast. But I will be in Columbia SC this weekend where they are broadcasting that same crappy Panthers game.

I went to college in Columbia and I can tell you this: there are about as many Steelers/Ravens fans as Panther fans. But I’ll have to watch the game at some bar where there will probably be a few Ravens fans. Ravens fans make me so mad that I just want to cut off my arms so I have something to throw at them.

by CarlWeathersMustache on Dec 11, 2008 9:13 AM EST reply actions

Ravens fans

CWM, Ravens fans have an inferiority complex. They usually have a competitive team, but want to live in the past. Always comparing teams to there one Super Bowl team. And Ray Lewis? Please. Jack Lambert must wonder how a guy with one ring gets so much attention.

I live in upstate NY where Bills fans are, to a fault, die-hard. But they still respect the Steelers organization. They would kill for an an owner committed to winning. Most of my friends are Bills fans. But rather than take shots at all the teams that they wish they could be like, they just stick by whoever is on their roster, hope for some miracle draft pick to turn into the next Thurman Thomas or Bruce Smith. If you went to a bar up here, and rooted for the steelers against the Bills, you might be boo’d, but noone would give you any trouble. PITTSBURGH STEELERS are the best professional Sports franchise
    Baltimore…….. One hit wonders

It's not an inferiority thing

They’re just a little like their team… defensive.

OoooOOoo, will Colon fall down on this play?

by steelguy99 on Dec 12, 2008 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

ITS VERY EXCITING

How could anyone not find our Offense exciting?! You get to watch ben run around the field like a midget in the ring with hulk hogan. You get to see an occasional long bomb.

You get to feel the edge of your seat suspense as to whether we get into the EZ from the 1.

And most excitingly, we feature more Punter action than most teams!

by Mechem on Dec 12, 2008 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

Um...

We WENT to another Super bowl at least.

And we’ve had 1 losing season in the last decade or so.

And we’ve participated in something like 5 AFC Championship games in the last several years.

Baltimore? Werent we like resting our starters against you last year? Oh yeah we did didnt we. Didnt somebody named Charlie Batch almost beat your sorry asses? Thats what I thought.

by Mechem on Dec 11, 2008 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

But it’s a lot more entertaining than watching your team constantly suck like some franchises.

by steelguy99 on Dec 11, 2008 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

My only point was the Ravens have been less consistent and less of a threat over those 20 years.

If he had simply said “hey we both have won a SB this decade” I might have let it slide.

But if you wanna talk 20 years. Well when you consider we have been regular contenders, working with quasi-good QB’s for most of the time until Benji, we are pretty damn good.

by Mechem on Dec 11, 2008 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

your a very good team with tremendous history/ownership but we’ve won 1 superbowl in the past 8 years and you’ve won one in the past 24 years. just sayin’.

by raven on Dec 12, 2008 12:35 AM EST up reply actions

Doesn’t really matter though since “your” team has only been around for 12 or so, right?

And hell, it’s not like you trace your lineage from nowhere. You can rename and move all you want, but the simple fact is that the baltimore ravens were the cleveland browns until modell left. Care to tell me how many superbowls the cleveland browns/ravens have won since the NFL started?

by steelguy99 on Dec 12, 2008 8:53 AM EST up reply actions

Proves my point

Just like all other BAL fans, Raven’s posts all go back to one SB , and most of those players are gone.

By his logic, we could say we’ve one more SBs in the last 4 years, or won more games in the last 14 weeks, or we have a better divisional record in the last…

By any measuring stick, franchise history, recent success(SB, playoffs, div title), coaches, owners, its not even close

by fiveSBrings72 on Dec 12, 2008 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

Lol

Heres what I love, he says “we won one SB in the last 8 years.”

Then he says “you won one in the past 24”

Now, in all fairness here, if you are going to START the year mark WITH your SB, then it should read like this.

“We won a super bowl in the last 8 years”
and
“You won a Super Bowl in the last 3”

So basically who gets owned again? Dont use two different forms of logic to make a point. Be consistent. I know its hard since your team is the exact opposite.

by Mechem on Dec 12, 2008 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

none of it will matter come sunday

when we clinch the afc north. It’ll be all good. Then Tony and the cowgirls can take em down so we won’t have to worry when we go to tenn. I can’t wait for that game. After that one the entire AFC standings will have to be completely rethought
