heh

looks like they are about to hug and make out. Kinda looks like a poster for the movie “Brokeback Mountain 2: Gridiron Groove”.

Sweet though, its nice to see us on the cover again.

yea

Though part of the article is devoted to Rex Ryan. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!.

The better chunk is about LeBeau.

Awesome

I just hope this article/cover doesn’t go to the team’s head. Last thing we need is a case of the SI Jinx…we’re also ranked #1 in Fox Sports power rankings.

The mood has changed

If you get a chance check out the Post Gazette website. We are definitely in playoff/Super Bowl fever mode now. Let’s ride with it while it lasts.

Yeah, I’m usually pretty slow to get worked up about the chances of winning the Super Bowl, but after Tennessee lost to the Jets and the Steelers beat the Patriots, I figured the Steelers would at least make it to the Super Bowl.

The only teams that really concern me are the Colts and the Giants, but the Colts more so. Not that I think the Colts are some great team, but they did beat the Steelers (with a lot of fluke tips by our DBs into their receivers’ hands), they are playing better of late, and I just can’t sleep on Peyton Manning.

I am happy to see the Giants getting lackadaisical lately, though. I don’t believe any other NFC team really has much of a chance against the Steelers. I suppose if Tavaris really has gotten his act together that Minnesota could be pretty tough (I liked them to go to the Super Bowl before the season). Carolina is a maybe, but Delhomme stinks, they won’t be able to run on the Steelers, and their D isn’t as scary as, say, Baltimore or even Tennessee to me.

by Brett Jones on Dec 16, 2008 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

carolinas

been my NFC favorite since about week 5. Not sure how we’d match up with them, but I was very impressed with what I saw from them. I’m not sure I’d say Delhomme stinks. He hasn’t been healthy in a few years. He’s taken teams deep before and has a pretty good track record in big games when he’s healthy. Helps when Steve Smith makes ridiculous plays each and every week

by Michael Bean on Dec 16, 2008 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

one more team

Philly. I’m a minor Eagles fan, so I kind of want them to get a chance, but I also don’t really want to see the Bruce Arians-Jim Johnson matchup again. If their offense in on, it’s one of the worst matchups for our defense because of Westbrook.

Anyway, I have the feeling that they’re going to win their last 2 games, so if ATL or Tampa loses a game, they could be in. FO has had them ranked very high in their metrics all year despite their record, and there’s no doubt that they’re good when they’re on. If Westbrook stays healthy for the rest of the season, they could be Giant slayers.

I think our defense is built to beat teams like Carolina, NYG, and Tennesee, so these teams don’t worry me as much. We stop the run and don’t let up big plays.

NYG

I think the Giants are cooked. Plaxico is going to be missed too much. He carried them last postseason. Only guy who commands double teams too on their roster. Amani Toomer? Pfft. Giants are 1 and done this year unless they draw Arizona.

by Michael Bean on Dec 17, 2008 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

I think that with a good reason but,

As some of them had told, Max Starks, I think, they have been in the middle of the heat, like in the post season almost from the very begining of the season, so if they survive this two weeks healthy, and with that possibility of recovery late of the 2ª half, or better having some advantage in t score, to let: RELEASE T D´BEASTS (GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE AGRESSIVE) I better hope they play a little bit more DOMINANT D, that will help Us also,

WE ARE IN GOOD SHAPE FOR ALMOST ANYTHING.

O sales tickets,...and let D rest a little, and D Win Championships.

Like the picture...

…but I think a new nickname might be in order, the Steel Curtain was in the 70’s, can we get an update?

by hartley on Dec 17, 2008 12:39 PM EST reply actions

Seriously.

Even that nickname is taken from spinning the now defunct Soviet Union’s nickname—“The Iron Curtain.” Talk about losing relevancy.

LeBeau’s Abyss
Frustration Foundry
The Iron Asylum
11 Gauge Grave (where offenses go to die)

Hmmm… nuthin’.

Stainless Storm is the best one I’ve heard so far, but I’m still not sure it’s catchy enough.

good read.

I forgot about the pumping of the feet. That was the epitome of intensity. I don’t think history has remembered Mr. Lambert for all the wrong reasons, but make no mistake—between the lines Jack Lambert was like a mad dog.

by Jonny B. on Dec 17, 2008 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

just watch

search youtube for lambert and get psyched up!

by thetackle on Dec 17, 2008 10:48 PM EST up reply actions

this sums it up

In the dressing room after the ’81 game, the writers asked Lambert about the play.

“Dreith said I hit Sipe too hard,” Lambert said.

“Did you?”

“I hit him as hard as I could.”

the whole fine thing kinda reminds me of this year. the officials have been picking on us for 30 years

by thetackle on Dec 17, 2008 10:58 PM EST up reply actions

we have had

lots of lambert videos and old steelers defense vids posted here. I havent done a great job archiving things here and making it all visible. Someday perhaps. But yeah, theres some cool footage out there.

by Michael Bean on Dec 18, 2008 6:21 AM EST up reply actions

It's interesting, also.

Lambert’s 5 year $1.25 milion record salary for a defensive player is considerably less than today’s league minimum for rookies.

by Jonny B. on Dec 18, 2008 1:21 PM EST up reply actions

sounds like

Lambert and Harrison cost about the same in unadjusted dollars! They have lots in common! Didn’t they both go to Kent State?

"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."

Why yes. Yes, they did.

by Jonny B. on Dec 19, 2008 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

That would make Harrison

the second best LB we ever signed from that university.
