First Vote Hell Yea
None of em are Steel Curtain level nicknames. We can’t keep Steel Curtain cause there will only ever be one, and out of respect to the 70s team it should be retired. We gotta come up with something else.
To the tune of the classic children's song "This Old Man" (the part with nick nack patty whack)
Big Snack, Silverback, take the Dawg Pound's Bone, the Black and Gold sent the Brownies crying home.

disagree
It’s a different era, new stadium, new coaches, new players…but the same brand of football. ‘Steel Curtain’ is not a nickname, it’s an identity; it’s a standard of football that the organization strives for every year. Its was created by the teams of the 70’s, but sustained by the great defenses since. Will every year live up to the billing? Absolutely not. But is it still the standard of Steeler’s football, year in, year out? Damn right.
Besides, how ridiculous would it be if the fan blog site “Behind the Steel Curtain” gave the “Steel Curtain” a new nickname?

How about
The Zone of Silence. Our D doesn’t woof, it doesn’t shout. And it makes the opposing offense quiet as a mouse.
Blitzburgh Is a good one.
Blitzburgh Is a great nickname for this unit
This is still Blitzburgh
Because Lebeau is still here. I vote for Blitzburgh.
I can't decide
between Axis of Deebo and The Strip District – love them both. the real problem is non-Pittsburghers/loyal fans are probably not going to get either one…
+1
I like those two too. Guess its an Allderdice thing.

Hey, I'm an Allderdice guy,
and I can’t believe that everyone didn’t vote for Lebeau-a-Constrictor! I liked it so much I adopted it as my screen name when I just registered (let me know if I’m violating someone’s trade name rights). I have to admit that I do like Axis of Deebo, though.

My Ideas
The Three River Riot
Or, on the radio, I heard someone suggest “The Terrible Twelve”, where the 12th would be LeBeau. I like that one.
I simply liked Congress, without the Steel
Short, sweet, efficient.
by TheCincinnatiConqueror on Dec 19, 2008 2:04 AM EST reply actions
Or how about the 7-10
or some other bowling spinoff…as opposing offenses numbers look like bad bowling scores (under 300)
by TheCincinnatiConqueror on Dec 19, 2008 2:06 AM EST reply actions
very creative :)
We are definitely going to get there with all these ideas bouncing around. Just a matter of time.

Steel Curtain, the 2nd Coming
The Black Apocalypse
The Steel Beast
Black Death
These might seem a bit over the top, but if you’re gonna have a nickname…
Cheesiest NFL nickname I ever heard – The Purple People Eaters (no wonder they never won any Super Bowls)
lol
seriously. just awful. purple alone is bad. Emphasizing it is even worse.

Nickname
I would rather we were anonymous than end up with a Steely McBeam type name.
If it ain’t perfect, leave it alone.
Oh yeah, speaking of Steely, the guy who does the 1st Down bit on the Jumbo tron for Consol Energy at the stadium has to go. We have gone from a cut symbol of strength to the unseemly spawn of Steely McBeam.
by Bob from Virginia on Dec 19, 2008 6:48 AM EST reply actions
haha
unseemly spawn of SMcB. Brilliant.
Agree though, nothing forced. Cant risk anything McBeam-like.

I still like
Steel Cage
They fight until the opponent submits or until the time expires. It’s a fight to the finish. Brings a parallel to steel cage matches as well.
"The team that scores the most points wins."
John Madden
(Master of the obvious)
My bad
That was redundant.
"The team that scores the most points wins."
John Madden
(Master of the obvious)
The Black and Gold Stanglehold
…has been circulating through other media outlets. I prefer something shorter, but it has the right attitude.
"Crush and Kill"
has always been my favorite way of referencing our D. It’s short and sweet, yet clearly states our mission.
Let's Go!
One that Tony Romo will agree with
Weapon of Mass Confusion
"The team that scores the most points wins."
John Madden
(Master of the obvious)
"Eve of Destruction"
“And ya tell me, over and over and over again, my friend, you don’t believe…..”
Imagine tens of thousands of voices joining in.
Repeat with every score.
Look directly into haunted eyes of opponents.
Enjoy.
A few more
Something with attrition in it (ala Tomlin): Gears of Attrition, Wheels of Attrition,
Headhunter D
Seek and Destroy
Shock and Awe
Those Unknown (regarding the fact that these guys don’t get the hype)
It's not a nickname for a team...
…but I really like the Eleven Angry Men blitz package.
Three Rivers' Renegades?
In honor of the Styx song that plays during pivotal periods to get the fans pumped up and screaming. Lord knows they played it a second time during the Dallas game!
by Chicago Steeler on Dec 19, 2008 11:55 AM EST reply actions
Somebody prob already had this one...
Like the Axis of Deebo, but agree it wouldn’t be recognized out there how about just : Axis of Steel.
I like Axis of Steel.
It’s a spinoff of “Axis of Evil” just as “The Steel Curtain” is a spinoff of “The Iron Curtain”, so the continuity is there.
Can I change my vote, please?
I already suggested this in the other thread but....
THE STILL CURTAIN
Let’s Go Stillers!! We were the “Steel Curtain” and we “Still” are I believe. We never lost it!
It's A 'Burgh thing.
People from Pittsburgh help me out.
Say it three times slowly
Steel Cage defense. :)
"The team that scores the most points wins."
John Madden
(Master of the obvious)
The Steel City Stranglers
Or
Death by Steel
Or
The Bridge to Nowhere (Old inside joke)

New nickname...
from Blitzburgh to
“Malicious Steel” Defense (look up the word malicious…describe our defense to a "T")
or
“Tenaious Steel” Defense
or
“Solid Steel” Defense
…take your pick…I’m calling them the “MALICIOUS STEEL” Defense from NOW ON!!
The Ministry of Defense
How about “The Ministry of Defense” … Defending the ground, water (dolphins game last year) and air.
How About...
“The Cloud Of Curiosity” or “The Cloud Of Confusion”?
The grass may be greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed
Honestly...
i think we HAVE to have something that can relate to confusion.
The grass may be greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed
How about...
The Shutters, or something to that effect. Steel Shutters, Security Shutters, Gated Community…….
LOL...
You guys don’t get a “Stop it these are really cheesy” option in the comments section….:)
LEBEAUCEAN'S ELEVEN
Not sure where I heard this one but it’s the best one I’ve heard so far. They have certainly stolen some games for us this year!
It gives props to the past
…and some unity for the entire franchise, but still makes a unique mark for this outstanding group.
by Neal Coolong on Dec 20, 2008 6:58 AM EST up reply actions
Ok then. It's settled.
We are the “Stop it. These are really cheesy.” Defense.
Btw, Bad, there are only two "E"s in “cheesy”. Not that I can spell much better, but I’m just saying, we might want to fix that before we print the shirts.
"BREADMAN" CREATES?
STEEL HURTIN’ …..I came up with this nickname this week on “Stan and guy” on espn 1250…What do you think?
In honor of borderline felon Harrison..
Assault And Battery…….Muggers And Thieves….Lockdown…..The Chains Gang….Maximum Security….Non-consensual Penetration…The Hole…
*steel on top
*stone cold steel
*the ball steelers
*the full metal raquet
*the iron rod fence
*the steel border <- ?
*the iron links
*the steel link defense
I don’t know just some thoughts. I like where this is going, but it’s definitly not there yet. We can all get it. I don’t think they should be named after a past defense. They deserve to go down in history as one of the best with their own nickname.
by SoCalSteelerFan on Dec 20, 2008 5:17 PM EST reply actions
Straight to the Point....
How about….
… “SOLID STEEL” Defense
Defense name
How about the Bust you in the mouth mofo! defense? No one has been able to handle them this year!
