Talk In New England

Is that New England didn't play well. That they handed the Steelers the game. They keep talking about the dropped passes from Gaffney and especially Moss. They keep talking about the weather. They think the first half went fine for them. What game did they watch?

The first half was fine for the Patriots because the Steelers couldn't get out of their own way. Clark, Palo, and Taylor all dropped interceptions, and receivers Holmes and Miller both dropped key passes. They had the games first turnover and handed the Pats their only TD. The Patriots were only in this game at the half because the Steelers shot themselves in the foot.

The dropped ball by Randy Moss in the back of the end zone was clearly going to be an incompletion because the defender pushed him out of bounds thinking he made the catch. Since there is no such rule as the force out anymore that wasn't going to be a TD. Unlike Nate Washington who dropped a unquestionable TD pass in the fourth quarter.

As far as the weather goes New England claims to be a bad weather team. They're from New England and were playing at home in their element. Not only that but Pittsburgh left alot of points on the board and still ended up scoring over 30 points, Steelers were inept on offense in the first half and still they put up big points. Guess what SAME WEATHER for both teams!Jay Cutler threw for 350 yards in the same weather.

As far as Gaffney's dropped pass. What Steelere fans may not know is that Gaffney drops big passes every game and they cry every week. What they don't understand is that every team has dropped balls every week,....let me repeat,.....every team deals with dropped passes. The good teams manage to over come a few drops and score some points regardless. The Titans, Cowboys and Eagles all dropped some passes this week but still managed a few offensive touchdowns.

The Patriots only offensive TD was given to them early in the first quarter and if not for that the Patriots were never in the game and they are lucky the score wasn't 50-3

I will be so sad when the patriots defeated themselves out of the playoffs, and could care less how it happens. Enjoy watching the steelers play in january.

heh

I have been asking everywhere why no one is talking about the fact that Moss came down out of bounds. No one, and I mean no one is talking about it. But the fact is, his catch wouldn’t have counted anyway. But every media person is talking about how Moss dropped sure TD. I guess drama sells papers and gets viewers.

Its funny, but if you look at it, both offenses had several similarities. Lots of dropped passes and a missed FG. We just made fewer mistakes and our defense was lights out. So I would definitely disagree that they ‘handed’ us the game.

I was listening to WEEI on the way into work this morning because I revel in their pain and all… Anyway, they said Moss took 10-14 points off the board in the 1st half with his drops.

Their biggest talking point this morning, and the one that got ALL of the morons to call in, was the Welker hit by Clark. Its really funny how people who have supported Rodney Harrison for YEARS get so fucking sensitive when someone comes in with a hard hit. I hope they choke on their rings.

Guns don't kill people. Lamar Woodley kills people.

OMG i know

They’ve been saying how he drops a sure TD pass. Um were we using a canadien field? because from what I saw he was not only getting pushed out by Farrior but his legs were dangerously close to the EZ line.

Both of us made similar errors, its just one team is actually good.

I am all for...

phrasing it as “we shot ourselves in the foot”, or, “we didn’t play so well”. But I think the media there is taking it to another level saying they handed us the game!! I think we just beat them, pretty simple.

Yeah

Obviously you can hinder your own output, we know ALL about that.

But flat out giving it away? Lets be real here.
The stat is called Fumbles Forced. Harrison has two of them for this game.

That means he FORCED the fumbles. And we had to recover them.

And to the Matthew Slater guy. He had every opportunity to pick that ball up. We beat him to it. Simple as that.

Turnovers are sometimes purely the O’s fault, such as dropping a lateral or something.

But it takes the D to make a play. Vrabel wasnt HANDED that pick, he had to go up and get it.

It is universal

That losing teams think they gave the game away with their mistakes. It is universal that winning teams are offended by that. I doubt that any Steelers fan would argue that we gave the game to the Colts with three huge blunders. People in Indiana are not thinking that way. It’s all a matter of perspective.

True point

Yeah I guess I will say that makes sense. At the same time, I credit the colts for mustering up a final lead getting TD. Granted I still have to note that Ike Taylor deflected a W to them, but they did their share.

The Giants game I’ll never give them though. We were flat out up and were it not for Willie Colon and a long snap problem we win that.

Eagles flat out beat us and I give them 100% credit though.

mostly agree

yeah giants game we played horrible, i will like to phrase that game and the colts game that ’they won the game but we beat ourselves"

all of colts points came from us giving the ball away. 21/24. the pass ike fails to catch (as usual), big ben under throwing a pass severely before the half. and big ben not being on the same page with the late pick. I really believe in a rematch we will crush them but the difference between that and our game vs NE is that we did those on our own, no pressure, not really an amazing play on defense. We just played bad.

Giants was similar too and we gave them too many oppurtunities. you can credit them like the colts for taking advantage but that is uncharacteristic of us to give up 5 turnovers. one was a good interception but some of those were our fault (safety). without that safety you subtract 2 points and maybe even another 7 because the giants do not get good field position after the crappy safety punt.

another note that i have repeated tho is that the turnover differential in those two games for us is -8. that is 8 extra possessions the colts-giants recieved from us but colts only won by 4 and giants by 7 with 2 that we gave them.

when team that is better than you gets 3 or more turnovers from you, you get beat, badly, in the fashion that we did the patriots.

absolutely agree

Even your lead story today talks about momentum change, and while that’s not ‘giving the game away’ it certainly opened the door. The Patriots took advantage of a slow Steelers start but i sure would have preferred a strong finish. Moss and Gaffney dropping balls, the Pats not being able to score in the red zone, Gostkowski missing a gimme FG…ugh! the list of how we got beat is embarassing, and that doesn’t even touch on the Matthew Slater blunder. Good teams take advantage when opponents hand them opportunities, and your Steelers were able to do that on Sunday.

Keep the faith!

Very true

I agree completely that were it not for all those TO’s we win handily.

And I think Ben realizes this and he has cut back on the turnovers. He has one in the last 3 games. And that one was his second play and he never looked back.

So I truly feel like if we just play some safe ball our Defense will put the O in enough situations to score.

Great points on the TO's

It’s so annoying to hear the other team talk as if they just gave us the TO’s. No…our guys beat your guys and forced 4/5 of the TO’s (I’ll take the KO fumble as a gimme).

Drops

I watched the replay tonight. I hadnt seen much aside from the 3-5 minute highlights.

The clam chowderians have been beotching about drops all week.

Well we dropped 2 for sure INT’s, a for sure TD that ended in a missed FG, another deep ball that would have been inside the 10, and a screen or two.

So I dont wanna hear “oh we gave it away we dropped our balls”

Both teams had em. Difference is, one team overcame them.
