Marvel Smith on IR; Jason Capizzi In
Ed Bouchette just announced on his chat this afternoon that Marvel Smith will be put on IR and replaced by Jason Capizzi. This really isn't shocking other than the fact that Marvel wasn't put on IR earlier, it seems like we could have signed someone with Some experience earlier in the season since Smith has been all but useless.
No news on whether they will bring in anyone else to try and help fill the void, or if Capizzi is the only option in their minds.
Anyways, just thought I would bring a little "Breaking News"...
Also for those of you that didn't know; I decided to open a new account, my old account was "frankrmineo"; I just got tired of seeing my name plastered all over every post!

Thanks for the news
Some in the media are blaming the Steelers for not doing this sooner. I don’t blame them for holding out hope that Marvel could return just when we needed him most, fresh as a daisy and raring to go. They couldn’t wait any longer.
Thoughtful discussion with a sense of history

I agree, if they thought he could be back then it was a good desicion to keep him around. Until we were 100% sure I guess it was worth holding out.

Goodbye Marvel. Thanks for your good years of service.

Capizzi?
Is this guy any good? I’ve heard his name floating around this blog a few time, and I know he’s a behemoth…but does he stand a chance of playing at all?

not really
He’ll be an ultra emergency option – would take an injury to Starks or Colon AND Essex for him to get a shot. Good for him though for sticking with it and keeping in shape. It’s a little much to keep holding out hope that Capizzi is going to break through and be a viable long term option, but you never know. He was doing ok before he got injured this offseason.

He’s on Pittsburgh’s radar. As long as he stays in shape he’ll always have a shot here.

I want to see Capizzi do really well.
He was the best lineman in his college, he’s young, and he has great physical attributes-6-9. 315 lbs.
To the tune of the classic children's song "This Old Man" (the part with nick nack patty whack)

Best lineman in his college doesn’t mean too much when your college is Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Hopefully we don’t get a chance to see him play. That would mean we are in trouble.

haha, took the words right out of my mouth.
I went to Edinboro University which is a rival of IUP and I was/am still pretty surprised he has lasted this long traveling around the leauge.
