Steelers Swag for Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas to everyone in Steelers Nation! As I sit writing this, I am decked out in my brand spanking new #92 jersey (away).  Thanks to my lovely wife and great kids...they were in fact paying attention.  It has become a Holiday tradition at our house to outfit each other in Steelers garb...my 9 year old daughter LOOOOOVES Hines Ward...and even got his autograph at training camp in 2003!!   Which brings me to my next topic of discussion...does anyone have a favorite piece of gear or jersey that they MUST wear on gamedays to keep the good mojo going?  I was weraing my FWP throwback during our recent winning streak, but feel that the mojo was lost during the Titans game.  I am hoepful to get another positive vibe with my new Silverback jersey. WOOOHOOO.  Now, I know this is kind of ridiculous, and that the jersey I wear has no bearing on the actual outcome of the game...but what the heck!  I would love to hear what everyone else thinks!

I have

a #10 jersey…it’s actually Kordell though!!! I wonder if they just sell names to sew on the back. Any other cool stuff for the Holiday? We also got a Wii. Man, it’s a lot of fun…my kids are totally killing me at EVERYTHING!!

You gotta bring your game up! I love Wii Tennis and Bowling. Never played many of the actual games.

Got the new blackberry (i can post from the bus now if i want! lucky y’all) and the adobe creative suite 4 design premium (I didn’t pay that price for it though)

by Michael Bean on Dec 25, 2008 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

How do you post comments from your blackberry? Or did you mean FP stories?

I access this site on my blackberry all the time, and at the bottom of every page it says mobile commenting is not yet available. The day that happens is probably the day I am able to make more comments- but that can’t be good for work. :)

fp stories

We’ll get to the mobile commenting, for sure. I’d say in the next three months most likely.

and i got

Art Rooney Jr.s new book. It’s long and looks great.

by Michael Bean on Dec 25, 2008 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

That book

is on my list as a b-day present, which is New Year’s Day. My wife is a sneaky lass, so I’m not sure if she got it or not…she hides the presents well. I love the bowling and golf…so far we only have Mario Kart racing as far as other games go. I was talking to a Dr. friend of mine that said Wii related injuries are way up…..crazy. Do you do web design with the Adobe stuff?

yes sir

I’m pretty excited about it – got just about everything imaginable in it.

Mario Kart is a awesome game to have! Loved the older versions of the game – I imagine it’s sweet for Wii

I do some too....

but it’s very amateur design for my band. I use Dreamweaver & Fireworks. Are you in So Cal too Blitz?

Here’s a link. if you have any pointers, feel free to share!

That’s great that you taught yourself and got something up. All of it looks pretty good, but I really really like the page ‘The Band’. If you were to tweak things in the future, I’d look to that page for ideas to emulate. It’

Wow. Thanks!

That was fast and helpful! Tweaking coming in 2009, as we are going to be posting new music and linking to digital sales etc. More than I bargained for when I started out, but I kind of enjoy the creative side of it. Learning the software is soooooo time consuming though. Also, one of the guys in the band (Paul) has the same b-day as yours! Cool. Small world. Did you know that the only place in the country it rains ALMOST as much as in Seattle is in NE Ohio..and that is where I am.

It has been awesome since I moved there – very little rain. But it’s been snowing a lot since I left to come down here. I imagine it’ll be miserable for quite some time once I get back, but for now, I have avoided the infamous rain.

Anyway, yeah, learning the software is very time consuming. Takes tons of concentration too, not always my strong suit. Only really used Dreamweaver and Photoshop extensively. There’s more in that suite of programs than I could ever get to. Not sure where to start but I’m excited.

by Michael Bean on Dec 25, 2008 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

Seems to me

that the Adobe platform is a little more stable and graphics friendly. Paul is in graphic design for his day job, so all of the photos are his work, I just put them into my design. He uses mac and photoshop then sends them to me as pdf files. I like Dreamweaver ok, though I have never actually paid for any version I’ve used, which is kind of a hassel in terms of product support. I think you will be pleased with your new software.

"Whaddya' mean all the beer is gone..?

by OhioYinzer on Dec 26, 2008 12:02 AM EST up reply actions

yea

Dreamweaver’s pretty great. This latest version is awesome – very user friendly and intuitive. Anyway, let me know if you want some help with feedback or ideas in the future.

by Michael Bean on Dec 26, 2008 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

Absolutely.

Thanks for the offer. Like I said we are going to redo a few things in ’09. I would like to streamline things a bit and make the site less cumbersome, if you catch my meaning. More links to stuff with less of a “boxy” design. I think I can accomplish that with Fireworks, but I stink at that program. I will let you know as the time approaches!

awesome.

I got a really nice heavy steelers old school wool jacket with logo’s and the the afc logo on the arm, a chrome steelers logo for my truck, and a steelers long underwear shirt that looks worn. I’m soooo stoked. Steelers for christmas. Couldn’t ask for anyting more. I’ll be reppin the black and gold in san diego all year long!!!

by SoCalSteelerFan on Dec 25, 2008 7:46 PM EST reply actions

quick question

I was thinking that it would be cool to start a tradition. I want to put each logo of the superbowls the steelers won on the sleeves of the jacket and then add them when the Steelers win another superbowl. (it’s just a question of when not if.) Does anyone know where I can find these patches? I looked online but came up with nothing. Have a merry steely christmas everyone!

by SoCalSteelerFan on Dec 25, 2008 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

Just curious

if you need a wool jacket in San Diego? Does it get cold enough to wear one? I think I saw that jacket online, way cool. Someone must love you!

SD

It gets cold enough, especially at night here to wear warm jackets.

by Michael Bean on Dec 25, 2008 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, it can go down to as much as 40 degrees!

I still wear T shirts outside at 40! :)
It was 5 below last Friday so cold my clutch surfaced gave out and died on the way to work.

by SteelersVT on Dec 25, 2008 11:37 PM EST up reply actions

whoops

NOT laughing at that second part. That sucks. Clutches aren’t cheap :(

Man, thats serious cold.

by Michael Bean on Dec 25, 2008 11:39 PM EST up reply actions

heh- its actually better even colder-

you can do all sorts of stupid scientific experiments with your kids. for example, boil some water in a pan and then throw the water outside- it becomes a powdered mist and sometimes crackles. as for the clutch- we will see what the bill will be. I don’t do my own clutches anymore- made me miss too many games!

I got...

The Winter Jacket Tomlin wears.

A new hat-bought the same one at Heinz field in the Summer, but never saw it again and got this one under the tree, so no complaints there

The retro 1960s Steeler logo winter hat.

I got my Dad a replithentic Jack Lambert Jersey that he had wanted since he saw it on our Pittsburgh pilgrimage back in August.

To the tune of the classic children's song "This Old Man" (the part with nick nack patty whack)

by replithentic, you meant something cheap on ebay?

I see lots of jerseys on ebay for 15 bucks or so, but I’m kinda wary of what they might actually look like in person. I think my in laws spent 80 bucks on my jersey for this xmas!

I think

he means the ones with stiched on numbers and letters, but not as authentic as the $300 “authentic” ones. If you catch my meaning. Check www.nflshp.com they have them there.

are the jerseys that have sewn on numbers and logo, but the sleeves are still screen printed and i don’t believe there’s any elastic. i’m pretty sure they retail for $110 usually.

The Steelers 5 Greatest Games DVD with the original broadcasts of all the Super Bowls.. pretty sweet

A Steelers jacket it looks like a high school lettermans jacket it’s badass

For the first time since 2000

I didn’t get any Steelers stuff for Christmas. Only got one gift too…but it was a good one. ;)

by Romain El 82 on Dec 25, 2008 10:27 PM EST reply actions

Well

long story short, my dad was an engineer for Chrysler for 20-something years and we leased all our cars…he left the company before Thanksgiving so we lost all the cars.

I got a red ‘04 Dodge Stratus SXT. It’s only got the 2.4L (4 cylinder) instead of the 2.7 or even 3.0 (6 cylinder), but it’s a sharp car and is really clean…only has 56,000 miles too.

This came after a 17 hour bus ride back from Marquette to Rochester (it takes me 6 hours by car)…ugh, that day SUCKED.

by Romain El 82 on Dec 26, 2008 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

FYI, finally got my first jersey, black #86, and my son got a matching mini one.

Also got a 2009 calendar which unfortunately featured dookie. Amazingly enough, thats like only the 5th steeler related thing we have in our house. Hopefully more in the future.

by SteelersVT on Dec 25, 2008 11:40 PM EST reply actions

Good choice

It’s always good to have the jersey of a guy that is gonna’ be around awhile. Hines will definitley retire a Steeler. I got bitten with a Kendrell Bell Jersey a few years back. Ouch. anyone know who wears #97 now?

"Whaddya' mean all the beer is gone..?

by OhioYinzer on Dec 25, 2008 11:46 PM EST up reply actions

No one.

Arnold Harrison, I believe, was the last one to wear that number in ’07.

by Jonny B. on Dec 25, 2008 11:54 PM EST up reply actions

Kendrell who? ;)

That must have come from a browns fan. You can return the favor by giving them a Junkin jersey. :)

"Whaddya' mean all the beer is gone..?

by OhioYinzer on Dec 25, 2008 11:55 PM EST reply actions

Just be like SteelerVT

and get yourself a retro #58. The Steelers don’t officially retire jersey numbers, but I’m fairly certain you don’t have to worry about ever seeing another name with that number,

by Jonny B. on Dec 25, 2008 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

they don't retire jerseys?

According to this calendar I just got for xmas, it says #70, Earnie Stautner is a retired number. I’m a little embarrassed that I have no idea who that is. Or is ‘officially’ something that means they can’t ever use that number again in a game or something like that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Stautner

Apparently he’s the only steeler that ever had a jersey retired.

by SteelersVT on Dec 26, 2008 12:09 AM EST up reply actions

You're right.

I didn’t realize that, but he is the only one. The other numbers (75, 32, 12, & 58) arent “officially” retired but have not been worn by anyone else since those players retired.

by Jonny B. on Dec 26, 2008 12:15 AM EST up reply actions

I have a Hines Ward jersey because I believe he will actually retire as a Steeler...

Sorry to be the grinch folks, but it became too expensive for me to buy Kordell Stewart and Rod Woodson jerseys only to see them become collector’s items….if Dan Rooney either stops being so cheap or sells the team to someone who will pay to keep good players, then I’ll start buying more Steeler jerseys.

by RogerG on Dec 26, 2008 12:06 AM EST reply actions

Yeah it can get pricey...

so it’s best to make wise choices. Still for me, it’s cheaper than my other hobby which is music, playing as well as buying gear, probably more of the later than former, according to my wife. She seems to tolerate buying jerseys beter than guitars!

a steelers flag to outdo my neighbors colts flag, a new hat, and a window sticker for my truck, also got the wife and two daughters jerseys

I ended up getting a bunch of little Steelers trinkets this year for some reason. Most of my friends in TX know me best as a Steelers fan, so it kinda makes sense, but let’s see… Steelers blanket, Troy Polamalu Fathead (never been a fan of fatheads, but I’ll make an exception since it’s Troy), a framed photo of Hines in the end zone during the Super Bowl, and a Willie Parker action figure thing.

But I’ll second the notion, a 6th ring would be the best gift possible.

Santa is good guy...

I got a 92 jersey too! I had asked for the throwback (but the wife may not have understood that one) to remember the Ravens trashing last year. Still super stoked on this one and hoping that it does bring the good juju for the postseason.

In terms of good luck stuff – I have an old steelers T-shirt that I used to play football in over in England. I like the fact that the old style nfl logo got messed up and smeared during play. I used to wear it every now and then, but now it is reserved for gametime only – getting a little elderly. Unfortunately the good-luck shirt didn’t come through for us last week. It gets washed after every game – which of course removes the offending stank from losses.

Good one

Crazy as it is…I think a lot of folks have those sort of things going.

by SCSteeler on Dec 27, 2008 9:11 AM EST up reply actions

In 2006

the year after the Super Bowl win when they started 2-6 then finished 6-2 (enough with the painful memories I know), that was my first year in college, and to start the year I would always wait until after the Steeler game (if it was on the weekend) to do my HW, and they started horribly.

Mid-season I decided to change that, got my HW done at the beginning of the weekend, and they almost won out (course, I went to the Baltimore game in Pittsburgh, the only Steeler game I’ve seen live in Pittsburgh, and they got shellacked. But, I mean, I was on Christmas break…don’t put that one on me).

by Romain El 82 on Dec 27, 2008 12:33 PM EST up reply actions

Bad juju

I drive the woman nuts on game day! I get up early and cook for the throngs of the Steeler’s Nation coming over for the game. Then I light up the “shrine” (a curio cabinet filled with Steeler’s helmets, glasses, tags, ect.ect.) turn on the Steeler’s neon, break out the terrible towels and put on my gear. During the game if the team is playing like ass I will change from a jersey to a pullover or a pullover to a jersey. Hell, during the Cowgirl game I went and shaved my head at the start of the fourth because I had stubble and was clean shaven the win before. Logically this all makes no sense what so ever but maybe karma does exist…….

I wasn't hired for my disposition!

by Burgernazi on Dec 27, 2008 9:55 AM EST reply actions

You shaved your head!!!!!

AWESOME! You are now officailly on my hereo list! That is what I’m talking about! I almost left my wife because she had to pee at a crucial time in the Jax playoff game last year. So she got up and peed, came back and SAT IN A DIFFERENT CHAIR! Two plays later Garrad escapes for 30 yards! It was not pretty at my house! Oh, and she also lost the 97 World Series for the Tribe because of something similar. And she thinks I’m the crazy one!
