Fantasy Pick - One Year

Here's a thought.  Who should the Steelers take in this year's draft if they could take anyone - but only have him for one year.  Basically, who could we plug in and potentially win a SB with in 2008..  Darren McFadden.. Jake Long.. Ryan Clady???  Do you think we could possibly be one player away?? What about two guys?

Jake Long
I think we already have McFadden.

no offence
but i think the Steelers are more than 1 or 2 guys away from the SB and i dont see a game changing player in this draft.

1 or 2 guys away......
yes, we are.  but we are not 1 or 2 game-changers away.  we just need youth/depth on the lines.  and there is plenty of that in this draft.  with a good draft we are immediate contenders.   remember, before the Smith's (Marvel & Aaron) got injured we were rolling pretty nicely.

RB McFadden
The RB from Arkansas - 4.28 speed - This year's Adrian Peterson.

When I said we already had McFadden
I meant that we had Willie Parker.  I think now we need Jake Long more than anybody.  I think he's the one guy who can improve us the most.

Right On
I think so too - I'd really like to see some busted long runs from Willie... I know he has it in him.. That's why we need OWEN SCHMITTT to spring him!!!!!

great hypothetical
If I could only have the guy for 1 year I'd stay away from OL. I'd prefer just to roll with Smith and Starks at OT and some combo of Colon, Simmons, Chris K, and Mahan at guard with Mohawk at center.

I'd probably debate between Chris Long (imagine a DL of Smith, Hampton and this kid) and an explosive WR. My first pick from the WR pool would be either Limas Sweed or James Hardy (6'7!!). In the end, I'd probably chose Long since that would create a dominant DL and also push Kiesel back to situational pass rusher and allow him to play special teams again.

nice question
Funny, I hadn't even thought about it.

Gholston would be a terror, but would need to learn a new position.  I don't think a rookie McFadden would be that much of an upgrade over Parker (he's no AP).  That leaves Long, Long, Dorsey, and Ellis.  I love Chris Long but I don't know if he'd be ready to be a 3-4 DE right away, and I think it would waste his athleticism.  I'd rather take Dorsey and play him at DE.  I know he's big enough to play there.  It'd be a slightly different position, but I think he could figure it out.  Something about Dorsey, Hampton, and Smith seems scarier than Long, Hampton, and Smith, especially in the running game.  Jake Long, on the other hand, could play RT on day one, moving Colon inside.  The line would look like Smith, Colon, some pansy, Kemo, Long.  That doesn't excite me as much as our DL, but it's probably the right thing to do.  I select Jake Long.

actually
I just changed my mind.  Starks could probably hold up.  I select Glen Dorsey.

I would take
the biggest baddest pass rushing lineman available. That would probably be Dorsey.
We may be more than one player away but not many more. We're only "about 3 bricks shy of a load."

Can't decide
Which one I would take, but I'm with 5020 and Golden. Tomlin said himself when he was asked whether he was surprised that the Giants won the SB. If you can generate sacks and qb pressure with your defensive line alone then you're always in position to win. Long, Gholston, Dorsey, whoever can get it done.
