Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Ask And You Shall Receive: Owen Schmitt Video #2

By request, Mr. Schmitt taking his disappointment out on himself:

Some extra edge and attitude would be welcome in Pittsburgh, certainly by me. But, let this be ample evidence that he won't be filling in for Sepulveda or any other punter in the NFL.

Felt bad for him there
Like a guy that's going to demand a lot of himself, though.

From the "What in the Hell Category"
This is a bit out of left field but it's not really worth it's own diary so I'll try and shoe horn it in here. According to New Era Scouting here is a list of players that the Steelers are said to interested in:

Pittsburgh Steelers
Gary Butler, OLB, California (Pa.)
King Dunlap, OT, Auburn
Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
Thomas Howard, DE/LB, Georgia
Curtis Johnson, LB, Clark Atlanta
Justin King, CB, Penn State
Red Keith, MLB, Central Michigan
Curtis Lofton, LB, Oklahoma
Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State
Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
Philip Wheeler, ILB, Georgia Tech

I'm sure they're keeping thier eye on some of these guys but there are numerous guys that have visited Pittsburgh publicly that aren't on this list. The fact that they have the Steelers intersted in a QB who will go in the first three rounds ruins most of the credibility that I had for NES. Could this just be a case of trying to make a story out of nothing or what?

Aren't most lists
by these types of sites just speculation at this time of year anyway?  I'm sure they used some type of logic to apply to this list, but for the most part, I'd say, they have to write something for each team, so it's filler.

One possible reason to include Andre Woodson could be that they think he'll never be a starter in this league so we would be interested in grooming Charlie Batch's replacement when he decides to hang it up.

I noticed that
The list has been the same since the at least early February.  I would say it is not to be trusted, especially considering all the visits we've had recently.

Finally
A team that isnt looking to get an OVERRATED (yes i said it) Darren McFadden.

Some names make sense
Linebackers and O-linemen make sense and it's popular for mocks to suggest CB for the Steelers. The Howard on this list is actually Marcus Howard and he's a legit candidate. Woodson was visited by QB coach Ken Anderson on Kentucky's Pro Day. Groves is definitely a candidate as is Wheeler.

Here's a list of guys who I have seen linked to the Steelers through visits, quotes by the players about interest from Pittsburgh at the Combine, or that they were inteviewed by Pittsburgh at a Pro Day:

DEFENCE
OLB Cliff Avril (Purdue)
OLB Quentin Groves (Auburn)
OLB Curtis Johnson (Clark Atlanta)
OLB Shawn Crable (Michigan)
MLB Jerod Mayo (Tennessee)
CB Antoine Cason (Arizona)
CB Aqib Talib (Kansas)
CB Charles Godfrey (Iowa)
CB Chevis Jackson (LSU)
CB Antwuan Molden (E. Kentucky)
CB Reggie Corner (Akron)
DL Dre Moore (Maryland)
DE Kendall Langford (Hampton)
DE Kellen Dykes (West Virginia)
DT Red Bryant (Texas A&M)
DL Eric Foster (Rutgers)

OFFENCE
C Mike Pollak (Arizona St)
G Brendan Albert (Virginia)
OL Mike McGlynn (Pitt)
OT Jeff Otah (Pitt)
OT Gosder Cherilus (Boston College)
WR Malcolm Kelly  (Oklahoma)
WR Mario Urrutia (Louisville)
WR James Hardy (Indiana)
RB Ryan Torain (Arizona St)
RB Jehuu Caulcrick (Michigan)
RB Brandon McAnderson (Kansas)
