Quentin Groves undergoes heart surgery

The NFL Network stated that Quentin Groves had heart surgury for a rapid heart beat caused by
Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome on 3/29/08.  Please see links below for more info. Teams are still projecting him in the first round but this may cause him to move down a bit.

very scary
Good luck to the kid. That's very serious stuff. I dont have the time this second to read about the disease in its entirety, but I have lots of questions about the safety of playing with the condition. I'll have to check it out, thanks for sharing.

Groves
Sounds like it's not that big of a deal, and that once the surgery is done, it fixes the problem.  The biggest thing is probably recovering from the surgery, but even that doesn't sound particularly invasive, considering he had it done before he visited the Steelers.

I doubt this is a big issue.  I'd rather have a guy who had a minor heart problem that was completely fixed in the off-season by minor surgery than a guy with one kidney.

agreed
from what i read about the surgery, the rapid heartbeat is essentially caused by an "extra" electrical connection in the heart, and they simply destroy that connection, thus eliminating the problem.

extra stuff
maybe he has extra muscles and brain power, too

Ronny Turiaf
of the Lakers had heart surgery after he was drafted and missed his first year. By his second he was back. He is currently a high energy component and an important part of the Lakers run to a championship this year.
I wouldn't draft Groves #1 but he should have a full recovery and a good career.

Turiaf's
surgery was much more involved.  he had a hole in his heart or his heart was too big or something like that.  much more invasive procedure.

Sounded scarier at first
Glad to hear that it's relatively minor (about as minor as heart surgery can be I guess).
