My take

I always think it is pointless to carry 3 QBs. Keep one on the practice squad. If Ben gets injured bring him up. However I agree Dixon could be the exception because he offers more than just Quarterbacking.

Last year in the pre season I really like Mike Lorello. I hope he makes the team.

I have a feeling Humpal wont be making the team

Willie Reid will be here over Walker. People are down on him cause he cant return. But from what I have seen, he has great promise as a WR, just hasnt been able to showcase it because he has been 5th on the depth chart.

not if dixon is a slash

A lot of people think Dennis Dixon was got to be a Randel El style slash QB/WR, with his backing up Big Ben being a minor benefit. he’s more there as a fifth WR/RB that can run, catch or pass for trick plays, seems to be the consensus.

Dixon

The more and more that I read from the coaching staff and beat writers like Ed Bouchette, it sounds like they drafted Dixon to become the eventual #2 QB. It sounds like they don’t have any intention of trying to get him to learn another position.

Well

Atleast we have someone that won’t get obliterated behind our OLine if Ben gets hurt and Dixon takes over for a few weeks.

Walker

I have heard rumors that Tomlin&Co. is very high on Walker, and I think he can make the team. He apperently runs a 4.35 and can return kicks and I think he could make the final roster

I gotta admit

I know nothing about him so Id keep an eye on him in the pre season.

Corners

I think its more likely we carry 4 safeties and 5 corners unless one of those safeties can play corner.

Also, I think Dekker is practice squad again, Starks was fine as a 3rd tight end and we really don’t ever need our 3rd tight end for anything besides blocking on one or two plays a game. They could use that spot for a special teamer or to keep a guy who another team would try to grab if they put on the PS.

Mundy

has experience at cornerback. I agree on Dekker, and it’s unlikely that Dixon wil be on the active roster as he rehabilitates.

very unlikely

It’s probably very unlikely that every draft pick makes the opening day roster. I’d be surprised if that’s ever happened.

QB

Look for the Steelers to put Dixon on the PUP list for as long as they can to buy an extra roster spot. If there are no injuries, and if Dixon is still feeling the effects of his injury, they’ll put him on IR and Zabransky on the PS for emergencies. McBean will probably end up on the PUP list too with a stress fracture, leaving Eason (who we just signed for 2 more years) on the roster.

Does anyone know how the roster works?

I understand you can dress 45 and have 53 on the roster (those eight i assume are the practice squad). What other lists are there? Do you have extra spots for PUP? Do you have a finite number of IR spots? Thanks.
