Draft Analysis Rounds 1-3, Steeler Youth

Wow we're starting to really shape up. The draft boosted our offense tremendously.

With Mendenhall and Sweed we gained two great young weapons who could take pressure off Big Ben by spreading out opposing defenses. At first I was hesitant and angry that we got Mendenhall in Round 1, as there were so many more players that would have addressed more pressing needs. Also, I wanted to see Jonathan Stewart a Steeler, but the Panthers nabbed him 13th overall. However he is starting to grow on me and I hope that he will be the power back we need to compliment Willie Parker. As for Limas Sweed, I am thrilled to see him in a Steeler uniform. A first round talent, Sweed will address the big-receiver need that Ben asked his front office to fix. And to add to that,  he is one of the few receivers to come out of this draft with a great attitude, work ethic, and desire to win. I think he'll be a Steeler for life, and provided that his wrist is fully healed, an immediate impact on the team. As for Bruce Davis, I think he brings a Joey Porter-like attitude to the table,  and is a fierce pass-rusher. I think he'll be great here.

Finally, I 'd like to make the point that the Steelers are starting to build the foundations for a young, dominant team. With many young guys stepping up form recent drafts this year, I think we'll see a core of young guys emerge as some great forces on both sides of the ball. LaMarr Woodley for instance, will start for Clark Haggans at linebacker, and by what I've seen from him in college and at the end of last year, I think he'll be another great linebacker.

Though we may not be quite at Super Bowl level yet (but  we could get there if all the players that step up and exceed expectations this year) we are a team that is quickly rising up past the top 10 teams, and into the top 5.
