Steely McBeam busted for drunk driving!

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/breaking/s_561456.html

I dunno.  The Pirate Parrot dealt drugs in the 1980s.  The Penguin mascot brawled with Van Damme in sudden Death.  Even the Ingots tried to take out Buddy Dial.  Are the Pierogies' noses clean?  Now we have rationale for hating on mascots in the burgh.

Can his ass. Not just the inidividual, the whole idea alltogether. He's scary looking anyway.

the sad part of the whole story is
the line that says Steeley McBeam is coming back. Ugh.

I wonder how
he was able to drive that late at night with the big head on him?!  He could have never have seen opposing traffic :-)

excellent question sir
He either had a convertible or he stuck that big head out the driver side window 'Ace Ventura style.' I personally hope he went AV style.

Rooney's comment:
"We feel these incidents should be dealt with on a case by case basis.  McBeam was on his way to his daughter's basketball game when he was pulled over.  We don't condone what he did, but his heart was in the right place, and that counts for something.  Stevie Steeler's incident was completely different, and that's why he was let go."

What I find interesting
Is that a 24-year old guy has a daughter old enough to be playing basketball.  Maybe that was his first mistake.

by maryrose on Apr 9, 2008 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

He was drunk and going...
...to his kid's basketball game? This isn't exactly sounding any better.

i think
he was poking fun of the Rooney reaction to the Harrison incident vs. Ced.

But I may be missing out on the sarcasm by the followup comments.

McBeam
First of all, you don't have muscles and scruff like McBeam when you're only 24, so that was clearly a misprint.  Secondly, this comes after all the rumors of McBeam stepping down to watch his daughters play basketball full time.

Cut him.
As marginal as Wilson was, McBeam isn't nearly as productve on the field.

I thought the Cowboys had the worst mascot ever
but Steely McBeam takes the cake.

It;s not
That Steely is a bad mascot. Its that mascots are a bad idea. The only mascot I would cheer would be some guy(or gal) running around in a Lombardi Trophy suit.

sreiously
If we ban cheerleaders, dont try to make up for it with some lame mascot. Mascots are for highschools and colleges, not professional teams, especially ones named the Steelers. Any attempt at a Mascot represting that name is going to be embarassing.

My stance on Mascots
I honestly don't have a problem is a professional team wants to have a mascot although I'd prefer to do anything with them altogether. My problem with mascots lies when they give the mascot a human face. If the mascot is a horse, cougar,  tiger, or Phillie (best mascot in sports IMO) I have no problem with it at all but anytime a mascot has a human face I hate it. Does that make me crazy?

Also mascots should never, never, never be allowed to operate a motor vehicle on the field. And mascots should never be allowed on the field with the players. (That idiot Rowdy has gone out for the damn coin flip before.)

What is also embarrassing
Is that somebody is going to lump all this stuff together, CWilson, Harrison, Najeh and now our stinging mascot, and paint us as a band of outlaws.  Seriously, I'll bet that happens.  Someone will point out that even the mascot is a delinquent.

ha
You're probably righ. Sad, but true. A bengals or browns fan really reaaaaaching will probably be all over it.

Sorry,
but Steely McBeam was all they could come up with???  Lame lame lame.

Am I The Only One
that thinks Steely is the spittin' image of Bill Cowher? He costs the Rooney's a lot less too!
