CONGRATS ON DIXON!
Hi-
I am an Oregon Duck who did his undergrad and grad school and currently works at the UofO. I just want to say that you folks at the Steelers got a great athlete and a great man in Dennis Dixon. Mature beyond his years, he is the classy kind of guy you want representing your organization.
I attended the USC game here in Eugene last season and watched Dixon make the USC defenders look absolutely silly. He is elusive, shifty, quick, and intelligent. His ball fakes would make Harry Houdini proud. If you haven't already seen it, this footage from the Oregon vs. Michigan game is a must see:

Dixon not only fools the Michigan D on this play, but the cameraman and both announcers. You gotta love the shocked look on the Michigan faithfull's faces.
Add another (new) Steeler fan to your mix!

One thing I’ve noticed is Ducks fans absolutely love this guy as a player and person. Thanks for sharing.

I hope he has great success...
And I really hope he can provide a great role for the Steelers.
But he’ll always be loved by Duck fans, and will go down in Oregon history as one of the most enjoyable players they’ll ever have.
Go Duckies!

that was a good play
Anyone who can embarrass those aholes is great in my book
Hopefully the Steelers can get Dixon in the mix soon. Very interesting draft choice. I hope we develop him into something valuable and then get a couple good draft picks out of it down the road. I’m not interested in QB controversy w/ Big Boy getting better all the time.

i like
the pick a lot. Good value for a guy who’s crazy athletic, and can now get in the mix with some trick plays. With Charlie getting older, I can see Dix getting comfortably into the backup position along with some Randle El type plays.

Yep
This is what I’m hoping will happen as well, and it sure is a good thing he’s such a mobile QB, he’s probably going to avoid a few sacks unless our oline is fixed soon.

Dixon gets compared to Akili Smith..
...and he is similar as a multi sport athlete who developed late as a QB in college. But Smith had some serious character issues, and wasn’t the brightest bulb on the tree. That was what made him fail so spectacularly in the NFL, not a lack of skill. Dixon seems quite grounded, as the poster mentioned, and learns well enough to be nominated for the Draddy Award last year. I see Dennis as more of a composite of the two high profile Oregon QBs who were drafted third overall a couple of years apart. He has the athletic talent of Smith, and the discipline and accuracy of Joey Harrington.
Plus obviously he doesn’t have the same crazy pressure that faced those two as high draft picks expected to step right in and change the fortunes of their new teams. That is the key for Dixon, his drop on the draft charts may one day prove to be a blessing in disguise. The big thing for him is to add some mass and strength. He won’t be effective at QB or WR at 200 pounds.

Definitely no Akili
I think you’re right about Dixon not fitting those Akili Smith comparisons.
