Steelers attend Kevin Jones' workout
I'm not sure what to make of the Steelers sending a scout to witness Kevin Jones' workout. He's still a young back and has the skills to be a great tailback but I don't see why the Steelers would be interested. They were one of only four teams that personally attended the workout (Dolphins, Packers and Lions) so it's not like sending a scout to the combine or something. The Browns also asked for a video of the workout, for whatever that's worth. The guy who attended the workout for the Steelers was Ron Hughes, director of college scouting.
Does anyone think the Steelers could actually be interested? Did they cut Davenport to open a spot for Jones? Or is this just a case of trying to cover all of their bases? Would anyone actually be excited if they brought him in?

This makes little to no sense to me – I have no idea why they were there. I’m sure for some reason – just one I don’t know. We are stocked at RB – I wouldn’t want Jones. He hasn’t done nearly anything except get injured. I will take my Gary Russell Thank you!

If the Steelers are going to take a shot like this
Then I want it to be a guy like Bentley or Booger or someone who could have an impact on either line. Let’s sort out all our running backs first before stockpiling more. We’re added two pretty good ones and a third may yet blossom.

strange
It’s hard to say what to make of it. I can’t see us signing another RB for more than the min, and I can’t see a guy like Jones signing with a team as deep as us for just the min. Maybe they’re just feeling out how desperate Jones is.

maybe jones also plays ol
Most likely though, they sent Hughes because he has a strong connection to the Lions having been with that organization for almost 2 decades. Or he has family there, and they didn’t have to send him at all, it just worked out, and you never know if you play against Kevin Jones since he can be deceptively good when healthy.

dunno
But I’d not only be shocked, I’d be confused and upset as well if we signed Jones. We already have two great backs and a nice emergency option package of Moore and Russell. With all the poorly run teams out there, plus all the teams with only one legit option at RB, surely some other team would be willing to offer more than the minimum to him, which frankly, is just about the only was I’d be able to stomach such a move.

Lolley
Dale Lolley said in the comments section of his blog that they were just covering their bases, and that he didn’t think there was much of a chance. They might keep him in mind if we have some injuries and he’s still around. He might be closer to finished than we’ve given him credit for.
