Prowlbowl center for sale;cheap!!
I'm probably gonna make some people mad for harping on this;but I still feel like we(Steelers) are making a mistake by not giving Bently a shot at a roster spot.I realize there is the risk that he may never be the same player he once was, but at a league minimum and some incentive bonuses we could limit our losses.I simply feel like its' a horse worth betting on.The possibilities if this guy pans out are unlimited;he was a probowl caliber guard with the Saints.

Feel ya
But one thing i know for sure there is no way he will play for any team at league minimum. Just not going to happen. 2.) he has not played in two years I rather put trust and faith in Justin Hartwig who was a starter for Carolina last year. (why spend more money on a guy that you have no idea what to expect- either he is going to be really good or really bad, i put my money on Hartwig who will get the job done period. 3.) the steelers need to save money to make sure that our core of the team stays intact, i think thats more important than signing a guy like Bently who will want more money than he is worth. 4.) the ronneys do not sign older player that want big money, they do the opposite they get rid of them (e.x. porter). Over i know everyone is worried about the line this year, but really last year we had a lot of shuffling around and injuries, lets forget about it and start fresh this year, come week 8 and we still got a problem then we address it for the future.

I'd add something but you covered it all
I’d have to think if he was looking for a league minimum contract w/ incentives, there would be about 25 teams lined up with a contract in hand. Remember that the Browns didn’t just cut him, he requested a release, which means he wants to be handed a starting spot (guys like that don’t take incentive laden contracts).
error
I made an error by spelling the Rooney’s ‘Ronney’, that just plain disrespect by me, should always spell and make sure i spell the Rooney’s name correctly, after all they gave the whole city of Pittsburgh something to cheer for the past 50+ years. Hope he can forgive me in case he is tuning in on this fine site.

Hartwig
Hartwig has a ton of injury problems too, so its not like he isnt a risk

True, but he wasn’t that expensive either

And he wasnt
Injured for 2 years. So thats like saying Troy has a ton of injury problems he is a risk as well, so lets go find an an all pro strong safety that hasnt played for 2 years. This would never happen, same with the Hartwig situation, he got hurt in the past but why go spend big bucks on a guy who was an all pro center 2 years ago, i find that as a bigger risk. lastly read bluegrassSteeler that was going to be my other point.

hartwig missed most of the 2006 season (he played one game) and he missed time last year. at his best, he is no where near as good asbently at his best

not to mention,
he was a friggin Brownie. :)
I think
we have wasted enough money on mediocre centers. If Bentley played D-line and was an all pro 2 years ago, i might be more open to that.

With the Saints he was the best center in football and on his way to being the next great center aka Kevin Mawae, Dermonti Dawson. I was worried when the Browns signed him and the fact that they’v released him after not playing one down has to do with the severity of his injuries, not money. If he were healthy he’d be the highest paid center out there. Just the kind of guy we need to continue the legacy of centers, but he may never regain the form. Worth a shot for the minmum or more, even if it takes another year.
