Sepulveda Out for Season

Hey BTSC Folk,

It looks as if our stud punter (if there is such a thing) will be out for the entirety of the 2008-9 season. Dale Lolley, a very trusted source of Steelers news, is reporting that tests on Sepulveda's right (non-kicking) leg have revealed an ACL tear (He had apparently been experiencing some discomfort in it, prompting the tests). Danny S was the Steelers 4th round selection in the 2007 draft.

The Steelers have quickly moved to pick up Paul Ernster off waivers from Detriot.

Here's the Lolley Link: http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/

While our problems on special teams are well documented, the problems seemed to be less to do with the punting/kicking, and more to do with poor coverage. However, any blow to a unit that is already suspect has to be considered a setback  - especially this early into the (off)season.

So, thoughts? Anyone know anything about this Ernster guy?

Dang!

It’s all over the place, so no denying it.

Sepulveda may have reinjured the same ACL from Baylor days.

Here’s what PG is saying – that Ernster played for the Browns last year and faced us in the opener.
Should be some stats out there on that.

Where’s Gardocki?

KDKA says – Steelers don’t have a punter in camp now, and right below that there is a link saying “find a job in Pittsburgh” – If I’m laughing I’m crying.

Wierd how a punter doesn’t seem like such a big deal until you don’t have one.

More on Ernster

Looking at the NFL bio -

Came out of Ironwood HS in Glendale, Arizona, went on to Northern Arizona, then as a kicker for the Broncos in 2005. In 2006 he split duties. In 2007 he was just a punter then moved on to the Browns, but apparently didn’t take.

It’s showing no blocked punts, which is good, but averages are in the 35.6 to 36.6 range over two years.
Career shows 92 punts for 3772 yards with an avg of 36.5. (But most of those are Denver days I think – doesn’t the ball fly out there in the mile-high city?

Not Good

My kingdom for a Bobby Walden or a Craig Colquitt! I’d even settle for a Harry Newsome or Gene Mingo. (that one is for you Rose)

I was thinking the same thing

Where’s Pat Brady when you need him. And Gene Mingo, now that’s pulling one out of the past. I hadn’t thought about him for a long time.

Horrible, horrible news

I was hoping for a great season from Robo-punter.

Let's just be thankful it was our punter

that is out for the season, not someone else.

FYI, Ernster is the guy that in the first drive of the first game against the Steelers last year let a perfect snap slip right through his fingers, setting up a 5 yard Touchdown to Ward moments later… and starting the route.

yup

His was a terrible, terrible game. But he helped the Steelers win one game against the browns last year, maybe he can do the same this year?

Maybe he just doesn't like the Browns....

Couldn’t blame him for that.

Although looking up his stats brought up another thing I had forgotten, that Gardocki, while playing for the Brownies once got fined for flipping the bird at Cowher.

Wierd how things go isn’t it.
