Capizzi Done

Hey BTSC Folk,

The venerable Dale Lolley is reporting that local Pittsburgher tackle Jason Capizzi is finished for the season and, probably, with the Steelers. Capizzi re-injured his left foot and then quickly reached an injury settlement with the Steelers. This means he will be dropped from the roster. It also look as if the injury is serious enough to require surgery as well

Mr. Lolley's blog: http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/ (as if we didn't all have it bookmarked anyway)

So, I guess this means Trai Essex is offically on the team again.

A lot of folks I talked

to at Latrobe were pulling for him. He’s from Indiana, a local college. All the best.

And not to fan the flames,

but a roster spot just opened up for LeCharles Bentley. : /

A little disappointing

It’s always funny how reporters can’t stop talking about how great Capizzi is, then when it comes time for management to give him a roster spot, he disappears off the face of the earth, while a guy like an injured Stapleton suddenly is worth protecting. Capizzi didn’t even make the practice squad last year, and now we get a chance to put him on IR and protect him for 1 more year for practically nothing, and we settle with him to leave. I don’t get it, but the FO/coaches must not be too impressed with him.

That is true, they had other options than just agreeing to a settlement. I hadn’t thought of it that way but it makes sense. They also could have put him on the PUP list like KC did with Priest Holmes last year if they didn’t want to shut him down for the whole year. It’s also possible that the injury is really serious though considering that it sounds like Wexell was hinting that it could end his career, although he could have just meant that Capizzi won’t get another chance.

I’m going totally off memory here (which is pretty unreliable in my case) but I think I remember hearing last year that the Steelers wanted Cap on their practice squad last year but he was kind of bitter about getting cut and didn’t want to be here. I could be wrong though.
