Tyrone Carter you have to go!

I don't know about you but when I watch Tyrone Carter play, i get cramps in my neck from shacking my head. At times I wonder how this guy managed to stay on the roster for all these years.

Star-divide

I've had a debate with a co-worker/Steeler fan. he insists that Anthony Smith sucks. He points to the New England game. As I looked into it I wondered why Smith has looked less than par, less than his outstanding output he had at the end of his rookie year... the answer? Tyrone Carter. I rewatched, with much heart ache, the New England game from last year. Yes, Smith was victimized, and with just cause i suppose but early in the game i noticed that Smith had to make adjustments. He probably saw the same thing I saw, Tyrone Carter run blitzing and over running the RB. Also several other times were Carter and Smith were in zone and smith already had a guy in his zone, carter passed his man off before he evengot out of his zone.

The biggest indictator to me that Carter doesn't belong on our beloved Blitzburgh defense was last years playoff game against the Jags. When the Jags qb Scrambled and he just waited for the guy to get there, and then run around him. Even though many if us have quitly looked down upon Anthony Smith and his hammering of our own WR, he is the kind of intensity we need. Hopefully he will turn into a feared monster patrolling the airways, ready to destroy anything that comes his way.

Smith and Carter are both liabilities

Roy Lewis and Mundy need to step up quickly.

Carter

I was all for Carter getting the hook as early as mid-season of last year. The Jags PO game was the icing on the cake. He looked ridiculous in trying to tackle Garrard on the game breaking run play. IMO he is much more on the bubble than Smith.

I can also recall...

In that Jag playoff game, Carter watched as Jones-Drew made a simple move to break to the outside and score on a dumpoff pass from Garrard. It looked like Carter was playing two-hand touch.
He doesn’t have that hard-hitting Steeler mentality.

Tyrone Carter

Tyrone Carter was playing out of position in the playoff game. He is a strong safety who was playing free safety in the playoff game because, even though he is not as physically gifted as Smith, he is more disciplined. Anthony Smith is also a strong safety playing free safety. I have no idea why he is being used as a free safety. He is not disciplined enough to be responsible for the deep zone. The game against New England proved it. You have to do your job and let the other guys do theirs. I do agree that Tyrone Carter is on the way out, though. Ryan Mundy should win the backup FS position and Roy Lewis will be our CB/S tweener. Hopefully Anthony Smith will be moved to SS which is a more natural position for him.

With all due respect..

it doesn’t matter if he was out of position or not.
I’m not complaining he got beat on deep pass coverage or anything, I’m saying he looked timid in two opportunites to save our team big defensive lapses in a playoff game.
You almost make my point even better, he’s a SS, he should have came up and laid a lick on Garrard. At least slow him down.

Carter looks lost out there

Everytime i see him hes just kinda running around. I cant say ive ever seen him make a really good play. He will tackle someone if they run right into him, and hes a little more disciplined than Smith on the play action, but can he make an extraordinary open field tackle? No. He was too slow to even get a hand on Gerrard. That play alone cut my ties with Carter.
