Harrison 2007 MVP?
I had forgotten that James Harrison was voted by teammates as 2007 MVP.
I remember being very surprised by this...don't get me wrong, I love Harrison and I think he is an absolute stud...
But, to me, Ben was our MVP, hands down...can you imagine any pther QB throwing 30+ TD's behind our OL?
Was anyone else surprised by this? Does this say anything about Ben's relationship with his teammates ( I always thought it was great)?
Mike

Harrison was a stud last year even before you consider the shoes he had to fill and the footprints he was walking in. (55) That game against Baltimore was a game for the ages. The only time I’ve seen a better defensive performance on a football field was by Forrest Whitaker in “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” when his little brother and Sean Penn totaled his car and blamed it on the opposing team they were to face that week.
I agree wholeheartedly about the season that Ben had. Many of Ben’s biggest plays in his biggest season were not because of some X and O drawn by Arians but because Benny got rushed, took off and made a play.
The thing is we don’t know what went on inside the locker room. Did Ben perhaps lobby for Harrison? Did Ben tell his teammates “Hey, I’m voting for Silverback. He’s the MVP” or did the D unit get together and vote for Harrison unanimously? It may be one of those things. Whether they like Ben or not he wins games and the Steelers are never out of it as long as 7 is healthy. Even in the games that he put us behind the 8 ball (Cleve/Jax) it was Ben that righted his course and brought us back. I think he was the MVP last year but who am I to argue with the players in the huddle.
When You Run The Ball Good Things Happen
Ben!
Number 7. Ben’s the man! Harrison was awesome, but Ben was absolutely Unbelievable! He showed enormous presence and above all…Leadership!
It was pretty surprising
but I wouldn’t be surprised if fitty’s idea about Ben lobbying for him might be true. The other option is that FWP also had a pretty good year, and some of the offensive guys could have split their vote, while it was pretty obvious to all that Harrison was the best (other than an injured Aaron Smith) in the defense.
i think
Everyone was too scared to vote against Harrison

however...
what has pittsburgh traditionally treasured more? a strong passing game or a vicious linebacker? harrison is more nostalgic.
Harrison may have fully deserved it...
The guy plays 3 different special teams, and had a monstrous season for us last year. I would bet guys around him look at this and have an enormous amount of respect for Harrison. Don’t get me wrong, Ben makes the offense tick. But, SIlverback works alot harder physically than Ben does each and every day. Especially on gamedays.

Like 5020 says – Don’t forget that last year the big pressure was on for him to perform after Joey left for the fins. There were some out there that even doubted his ability to fill those shoes. I’d say that, plus the Baltimore butt kickin (and many more), plus the ST play and I fully understand it.
He’s still doing ST too this year! Maybe they should go for the classic Ironman and put him on the line offense.
I agree
with everything you guys are saying about Harrison…I loved the guy even when he was backing up Porter.
But…if I had to pick …which player, Big Ben or Harrison, I would most hate to have a season ending injury tomorrow it would be Big Ben…without hesitation…
