40 pounds and the quote you don't want to hear

Just caught Dulac's video review of camp from Saturday.   Apparently Big Snack was 40 pounds overweight reporting to camp, and there's no sign of when he might start practice.  Dulac says, "I don't know when we will see him on the practice field.  We have still seen him though...in the cafeteria."    That's just the spot you want to see someone who needs to loose 40 pounds.

Other news was Ben and Woodley both out day-to-day with groin injuries.  They're playing Timmons at ROLB and Silverback at LOLB in the meantime.

Could get ugly...

LOL – I guess its good we can laugh, but serioiusly hope he’s making some progress to get back with the team.

On the other front there’s a good article on Steelers.com where Tomlin is touting the benefits of positional flexibility for the LBs. If it works it sounds great – having interchangeable LBs so some can get rest. Perhaps this is what they have in mind with keeping Harrison on ST – maybe Timmons will spell him. I know there’s a piece floating aroiund (not sure where I saw it) saying that Foote will not loose his starting position to Timmons…but once again, we’ll see in time.

Holy cow he looks fat.

Puts all those “fat and lazy” comments thrown around about Rogers in perspective…

funny Hampton story

I swam at University at Buffalo on scholarship and one of the Steelers nutritionists was contracted by our athletic department to come talk to us once in a while, she always told us stories about the guys. The Hampton story she told is hilarious…....(this was a few years ago), she asked him what he had for dinner the previous night and he said “a couple pieces of chicken and a few meatballs”, the whole defense broke at laughing, and when she queried why, they told her he had actually eaten two whole rotisserie chickens and 30+ meatballs!

Should start your own fanpost with this.

And name it, “The Buffet Line and the Hampton Story you don’t want to hear”
Yikes Casey…this makes you wonder what the heck he was eating this offseason that made him 40 pounds overweight.

Big bones?

I know what you mean…my three year old daughter doesn’t even weigh much over 30 pounds. That’s a load extra. But, maybe he’s been over ervy year and this is really just a little bit more – I hope. I guess though in mentioning my daughter, gott think about my 1 yr old who’s just as big as his sis – some folks are just big.

2 chickens…30 meatballs – I can’t believe it.

also a Hines Ward story

again, this is from years ago that I was told the story: Hines was on an offseason diet trying to lose some body fat/weight and wasn’t having much success, he went to the trainer and said he was eating everything she had said to, then she asked him what he was drinking…...turns out he drank Hi-C with every meal! no wonder he’s always smiling.

it was a ridiculous amount too

something like a few liters of Hi-C every day.

here's a quote you DO want to hear

Kevin Greene (in Tribune-Review) on LaMarr Woodley: “He’s going to be better than me”

Woodley

High praise coming from one of the all time great pass rushers. I remember hearing that he was impressing in camp last year, and my first thought was, at least we may have one future star in our first two picks. Now, it looks like Timmons is ready to step up as well. I can’t wait to see these guys on the field this Friday.

That's more like it...

Good news, good news – need to hear stuff like that. Second your feelings from last year on Woodley, and am started to get a good vibe on Timmons too. Bring on the season.

How about this from Kevin Greene

Apparently Bruce Davis spent some time with Greene and Greene taught him about an important aspect of the game: violence. Davis went on to say that having been in the Pac-10, he worked mostly his finesse game but that Greene told him ($) to “be violent out there and that it would open up his finesse game even more.” Gotta love having great players out there coaching the youngsters.

What a heart-warming story...

Older generations teaching the youngsters about violence.

Tear in my eye thinking about it...

Quote Davis on Greene: ””I learned more from him than I have in years of playing football in just the week that he was here.”

Sounds to me like we are set at LB for the next 10 years.

Davis-Timmons-Woodley: from left to right. Add in another young talent via draft/free agency and we are dominant for the next decade.

Or if Casey Hampton drops off in effectiveness within the next 3-4 years, maybe we shift to 4-3 if we can’t find another Nose Tackle that can do what Big Snack does for us..?

Oh no....

Is this the start of a conspiracy theory whereby Big Snack on the PUP leads to a 4-3 defense? Nahhh.

by SCSteeler on Aug 5, 2008 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No I just think

Big Snack is getting fat that’s all.
