Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Dre Moore

Dre Moore, Defensive Lineman from Maryland was one of the player that the Steelers tried to move up in the 4th round to pick.  He came to town to visit with the Steelers prior to the draft.  He was cut by Tampa today.  I hope the Steelers are watching the waiver wire.  We need some young blood on the DL.  All of our lineman are in their 30s.  Unless we start developing some talent, this unit will slip quickly.

I thought the same thing when I read they had cut him. He may not be ready to play a lot now, but he might do well in a backup roll and, perhaps, develop into a starter. Still, it’s a red flag that the Bucs didn’t think a fourth round pic was good enough to warrent a place on their roster – even in a strictly backup role.

You’re probably right Blitz, my knowledge of the organization is pretty minimal. He’s probably worth more than a look. It would, ya know, be nice to have a backup DE under 30 and without and arthritic back…

Sign him

<<The Buccaneers cut their fourth-round pick Dre Moore. In last April’s draft Tampa Bay traded up to acquire the Maryland product. Moore was beat out by second-year defensive lineman Greg Peterson.>> -from http://www.pewterreport.com/articles/view

One comment on the Tampa site: <<The only surprise was Dre Moore getting cut, but I have a feeling that he will find his way on the practice squad…>> Not if we sign him.

Not sure how to make room for him, but he has way to much talent for the Steelers to pass on right now imo.

Moore

I’ve been keeping up with Moore. He’s incredibly strong and fast for his size, but I think he’s a classic “works out better than plays” guy. That said, we have 3 marginal backups on our roster who wouldn’t get picked up if we cut them. I would approve of cutting one and adding an “upside” wavier pickup. Moore might be that guy. Ahtyba Rubin of the Browns was another upside guy who did nothing to deserve a roster spot, but somehow made his roster. We’ll see if he’s still on the team after the wavier wire dash is over.

too late

tampa already signed him to the practice squad

that doesn't mean anything

you can sign a guy from a practice squad if you intend to put him on the 53-man roster

"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball

i think what the deal is

is that you can request to sign them, and that team gets a “right of first refusal” of sorts. they would have to bring the player up right then to keep him away from the team interested.

More Moore.

I had Dre Moore on my draft board, however, its been reported that he lacks concentration or the heart IIRC to consistantly play at an NFL level. That reads project to me ala Ryan McBean who got cut in the end. My apologies for the double post.
