"NFC has most of the elite quarterbacks in the league"

Don't start screaming at me -- I'm only repeating what Don Banks is blathering about over on si.com.

Seriously. He makes some statement about with Brady out, and Manning the elder sucking, all the QBs who looked really good from week one are in the NFC.

So, are you thinking what I'm thinking -- isn't he forgetting someone? Do you think the name was too long for him to spell? Was he like "Oh yeah, there is that Rotlis... I mean, Rothling, uh.. Oh forget, it. They'll never notice."

Someone else on the site mentioned this a week or so ago, but I don't get why Ben, and the Steelers in general, are overlooked when sports writers are nattering on about elite QBs or teams that are real contenders this year. Anyone else find this as annoying or inexplicable as I do? I mean, I know I'm biased, but still...

I find it really annoying

my only solace is I know Big Ben could hardly care less, is only focused on wins, and will one day walk from this game with the most Lombardi trophies. And a bunch ’o stats to boot.

..and I thought I was the only one

It seems that no madder how good Ben or the Steelers play, it’s never as important as Brett Farve being punished for fumbling a snap in practice. Or Brady and Manning missing pointless preseason games with minor injuries.

As SC and Buddha said...

The team loves it when people underrate them because it gives you a whole other reason to win. The drive to prove the doubters wrong is the extra bonus you get when you win. Pitt is a smaller market city than these big places like New York and Dallas and San Diego. But that’s how we roll, let em doubt us and let’s see what they’re saying Ben or anyone for that matter wins a major award at the end of the year or makes the pro bowl, or dare I say it leads us to ring #6…

To the tune of the classic children's song "This Old Man" (the part with nick nack patty whack)

actually

I’ve been reading that we’re the ‘clear favorites’ in the AFC now. Bill Simmons wrote that recently at least. The QB love fest may be elsewhere, but I don’t think people will be overlooking us for very long, if they even still are. A win against Cleveland in front of the whole country will make poeple take notice, esp if Indy loses at minnesota.

Hopefully

we keep winning, and the players keep that big chip on their shoulders throughout the entire season – brownies are better, Big Ben sucks, players are old and in the way, etc.

yeah!

lol

And, we let our best player get away through free agency, no commitment to winning, questions abound about this team. San Diego, Indy, and the Patsies are the class of the AFC, the American Fantasy Conference.

32 tds, 11 ints, 3500 pass yds, 104 qb rating...

no, he’s not elite…not with THOSE numbers.

let everyone overlook us…and ben. 10 teams overlooked ben in the 2004 draft…but that seemed to work out ok for us. bottom line, if this team stays healthy, no one will be overlooking the steelers…they’ll be looking up at them.

I think the real humor is the NFC. Who are the “elite” QB’s in the NFC?

Tony Romo – hard to say he’s not
Drew Brees – a very good QB, but not a world beater
Eli Manning – haha, just kidding
McNabb – older and hasn’t been healthy. If you count him, you have to count Favre
Hasselback – if Manning lost his elite status after one game, then Hasselback just lost his stating position
Aaron Rodgers – Almost as impressive as Cutler, and a bit better than Russell
Matt Ryan – he’s started one game against Detroit

Going back to the class of 2003, the AFC has drafted/aquired Palmer, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Schaub, Anderson, Cutler, Russell, and Trent Edwards who all have at least have shown some signs that they are capable QB’s while some are becomming stars. The NFC has drafted Rodgers and Matt Ryan, who have shown less than most of those on the AFC list. Other selections include the lesser Manning, the Orton-Grossman duo, Leinart, Tavaris Jackson, Alex Smith. Seriously, that’s the best I could find. The QB’s in the NFC are a joke, and as these young QB’s develop over the next few years, that’s only going to get more pronounced.

Seriously?

We have Manning. We have Palmer(who sucked last week but still has game even though he is a mental midget like everyone at USC). We have BRETT FRIGGIN FAVRE!!! O, and I almost forgot, Big Ben. Who, for anecdotal purposes was originally called Big Ben at birth when he was born with a 14 inch Dick. I can only imagine how big it is now, but the only people who can take its massive girth are Goddesses on Mount Olympus. See Zeus, this is what you get when you challenge Jesus to a cock fight…

"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball
