For some reason I just started thinking about how he had to have gotten paid off. He had too..

haha

quite random.

Damn, Denver whooping SD so far. In striking range again.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

Both the Jets and Pats

have looked inept so far. I’m liking the Bills for that division more and more.

by Desroko on Sep 14, 2008 6:03 PM EDT reply actions

totally

Yeah neither team looked like they knew what they were doing.

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

bills

Very impressive win. AFC South looks overrated to me now. TN is still solid, and Colts will be there. But from top to bottom, not as good as people thought, and not as good ast NFC east it seems.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 6:25 PM EDT reply actions

wow!

Ironically, talking to Skin Patrol on the phone and he was incessant that teams didn’t go for 2 more often. This was well before the end of this game.

Kudos to Shanahan. Ballsy!.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

+1

I turned to my roommate before the Bronco’s scored and said, “I wonder if they should just go for two? Your defense isn’t holding up and you’ve got a decent chance of getting a 2 yard gain.”

Lo and behold Mike Shanahan has me miked. Or maybe he makes his own decisions… Hard to call.

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

OT

what’s the point in playing it safe when your reward is a coin flip in OT??

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

my thoughts exactly

You get the two you win basically. that’s worth it to me.

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Gutsy call

but by rights SD won that game. They were screwed over twice, resulting in 15 pts the other way. These weren’t questionable calls – they were wrong calls.

by Desroko on Sep 14, 2008 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

True...

I wondered if they should just over turn that out of bounds call on Chambers at the end. Give the Chargers a chance at a long field goal.

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Broncos

had luck going their way all day with a few really bad calls so why not make take advantage

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Look at

all those terrible towels!

Nice throw to the back shoulder.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:28 PM EDT reply actions

TEs

One of our TEs just got dusted on that run. Not sure who it was.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

Ugh

The OL shows its true colors.

And do the Brownies have field turf or grass? It looks too perfect to be grass on my low-def, smallish tv.

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

of course it’s real grass. it’s cleveland.

by kwoog on Sep 14, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

I didn’t know they could grow grass there

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

of the two teams, only one has ever played home games on turf.

by kwoog on Sep 14, 2008 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:35 PM EDT reply actions

Great, rain

as a Michigan fan that’s the last thing I want to see

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

aargh

wind or not, passing game looks off sync. and with the browns questionable secondary i bet we game-planned to throw, throw, throw to start things off. Arians, can you adjust? Tomlin, can you settle these guys down?

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 14, 2008 8:41 PM EDT reply actions

yeah

wonder how much Ben’s shoulder is really bothering him

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions

we're allright.

Defense looks impenetrable right now. We’ll put together a few drives.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

D does look good. A few holding calls on the Brownies NOT being called though. One on Troy P on the first play and there on Woodley

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

true

Woodley got held. Agreed.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

This is gonna be one of those games

knock on wood

I feel a “Delicious” fumble on the horizon…

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Sorry haha

Just got the butterflies for some reason. Haven’t had those in a long while…

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

hehe

This is going to be one of those games though. Not going to be a blowout.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey Blitz

When I become a head coach (somewhere, not sure where) can I count you in on the coaching staff? haha

ahhh!!!

gotta catch that Hines!

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Still a great throw. Hines never drops those

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Especially a great throw, given the conditions.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

But I do it.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Through 1 Qtr...

O-Line actually doesn’t look too bad thus far. Maybe I’ll eat my words, but I like what I see in general. Some nice holes for Willie, and Ben has had time to sling it. Now if we can just hold onto the ball…

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

run run run

I hope we run a little bit more frequently this quarter. Too sporadic with our rushing attack.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

Same.

I know I said earlier that passing early and often on the Browns’ fourth-string starting secondary was key, but it’s pretty clear that passes can’t be handled in these conditions.

by Desroko on Sep 14, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

nah

field position’s too important in this weather.

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Everyone in their lanes – then converge to ball. Beauty

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

If you aren’t going to give it the proper time to play out? Bone. Head.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Welp...

I guess that’s why Mike’s the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I’m not.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

?

then how come FWP has 54 yds rushing, and the browns have 27 combined?

by acrollet on Sep 14, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

b/c you guys have more than 3 first downs. i’ll take what i’ve seen from our D so far.

Simmons

Simmons’ has got to stay in front of Rogers!

by Chicago Steeler on Sep 14, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

Is that the 4th sack? :-/

by acrollet on Sep 14, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

Hartwig’s overmatched, but that’s on Big Ben. He’s got to get rid of that and he stepped up into that one as well.

at least kick coverage has been solid!

But I love Madden. Absolutely right. My moneys on P to outwork Winslow.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:10 PM EDT reply actions

i think that was just a poorly run route. get to the marker, dammit. that had nothing to do w/ polamalu, other than he didn’t miss the tackle.

pfft

Whatever. He stood him straight up.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Light rain. Winds seemed to have died down a bit this half.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:53 PM EDT reply actions

theyre hanging in there

Making the Browns earn it. I’m fine with that strategy. They need another tough 3rd down conversion here.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

bend but don't break

they just ran 6 min of clock and they still need a TD to tie

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

someone explain to me

Why they ‘have’ to kick the FG there.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:55 PM EDT reply actions

odds are

They don’t get anywhere near that close to scoring TD again. IF they even get the ball back that is. I don’t get it.

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

ha

great minds think alike

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Because if they can stop our offense, they can get a game-winning TD. And honestly, right now I’m not liking the mojo.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah. I’m not feeling the momentum at the moment.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

yea

i don’t trust that we can run 3 minutes off the clock

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 14, 2008 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

All the negativity from last year creeping in!

We’re going to pick up a couple of first downs and ice this. They may get it back, but under 1 minute or there around. We’ll see!

Would be so huge to see us close it out with the ground game.

I think you have to go for it there, what good does a FG do when you’re down 7?

by schnifin on Sep 14, 2008 10:55 PM EDT reply actions

Late to Party...

But I want to see us run the clock out. Pound it and pound it and pound it some more.

And NO 3rd down QB rollouts!!!!!

crennel's

clock management is shockingly lousy.

by steelerark on Sep 14, 2008 11:06 PM EDT reply actions

not shocking

THis is a chronic problem. He’s clueless out there. He’s got to go.

new year boys and girls

We’ve answered some of the big questions about our team. Quiet night for FWP, but he’s at 100 yards.

missed it

rewinding. Just heard it! haha

by steelerark on Sep 14, 2008 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

Not Quite Over Yet...

I think it’s too early to kneel on it. I say a couple more doses of FWP.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 11:09 PM EDT reply actions

I have a question

Since the clock stops anyway, why not try a pass there? Why not lob it into the endzone?

by Romain El 82 on Sep 14, 2008 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

why not

pooch it with Ben??? absurd.

by steelerark on Sep 14, 2008 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

poooooooooooor brownies

Problems all happening just like Ive been saying!! Now, throw in the Crennle blunders and youve got the perfect storm!

by Michael Bean on Sep 14, 2008 11:15 PM EDT reply actions

eh, this is nothing like what you’ve been saying. crennel sucks at game management, no news flash there. this D is wildly improved. put this one on the offense.

or i’m just sideways drunk…

by kwoog on Sep 14, 2008 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

haha

Well, lets see. Earlier you said the difference was the play of the QBs. So, if fans are happy with Anderson, I guess things are not as I speculated might happen. And, you’re now to the road for four of the next five. Let’s see what happens in one or two more weeks time.

I also think that we’ll be hearing from Winslow after this game. Sounded like he was me-firsting int he locker room. The implosion is just beginning.

Sorry Browns

Man, I feel bad for the browns fans. What a fool for a coach. Kicking a field goal with 3 minutes left and then blowing all those TOs. I guess there loss is our gain, but talk about not even trying to win.

by vin2k on Sep 14, 2008 11:18 PM EDT reply actions

it is sad

Because you can’t overcome that kind of coaching. Browns arent good enough to have any more disadvantages.

How About Andrea Kremer?

Let the shoulder go. And don’t get smart. Talk about Jim Gray syndrome. Cripe.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 11:21 PM EDT reply actions

She asked Ben once about the shoulder. He avoided it. She asked him AGAIN about it. He avoided it again. Then she said something to the effect of, “Gee Ben, that’s twice I’ve asked you about your shoulder and you haven’t answered. Makes me think something is up with it.”

It’s like, shut the hell up about it already.

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, and then her final question was about the shoulder. Ben was just like, “My offensive linemen are waiting for me. I’m gonna go congratulate them.”

by Hines Ward on Sep 14, 2008 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry I missed out I was too busy catching up on Tivo.

Big win for us…. Sloppy win but a win is a win.

To the tune of the classic children's song "This Old Man" (the part with nick nack patty whack)

Big Snack, Silverback, take the Dawg Pound's Bone, the Black and Gold sent the Brownies crying home.

How sweet it is

Looking forward to re-watching and keeping more of an eye on Troy for my adopt-a-steeler report – he was quieter against Houston but came up big quite a few times today!
