Keisel Out

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08259/912385-66.stm

I haven't seen anything else on this yet, but the PG is thinking he'll be out for awhile (2 months). Pretty poor reporting, but that's all I've got for now.

We knew this would happen, but I'm glad our backups are looking better than they were last year so far. I guess it only took two games this year, I sure do wish we got younger and stronger on the lines...

too bad

not to sound crass,….if 1 guy on the D-Line had to get injured,… i think everyone would prefer it was Keisel. But still, it would be a blow.

The return of Orpheus Roye

I hate to say it, but we’re reaching the point where I’d be okay with the Steelers reaching for D-linemen next April.

99

The Diesel will be missed. I noticed that as good as 90 & 93 did filling in on the line the last couple weeks the D slips a little without Keisel out there.
On the bright side 2 months is late November, more than enough time for 99 to get it in gear and help for the playoff push.
I am happy with the play of both lines for now but it is early in the season and we have a long way to go. I worry regarding injuries and other coaches adjustments to our players and our coaching staff’s counters.
I would like to add (as I neglected in my Browns game comments) Aaron Smith is one of the best D lineman in the league. He had a monster game last night and as long as he and The Snack stay healthy we should be ok until the Diesel gets back to health and the playing field.

I’d be okay with the Steelers reaching for D-linemen Now!!!

Why wait until April to spend a draft pick when we can sign Dre Moore now? He is still sitting on Tampa’s practice squad. We could begin grooming him and see if we need to use another draft pick on a defensive lineman in April.

Who do you drop?

If you sign him off a practice squad you have to put him on your 53.

what about Rodney Bailey?

He is sitting on the Cardinals practice squad and has played for the Steelers, so he ought to know the defensive schemes better than Dre Moore would and maybe even better than O. Roye. He is more experienced than Moore and younger than Roye, as well…

My guess is

they don’t want a player from the Cardinals’ practice squad. That would mean they are getting a player that can’t even make the Cardinals.

This really hurts

Not much depth….I mean no real depth….Ok no depth at D-line. I’m hoping somebody surprises me and shows me wrong, but Brett will be missed for sure. I need someone to slap me for briefly thinking of putting Woodley at end and Timmons at outside backer.

on the plus side

one good thing is that we have 7 DL’s on the roster, so we can activate Roye and still have a 6 man rotation. Hopefully we won’t lose anyone else, but Keisel shouldn’t be out for the season, so he could come back and help our line when we get closer to the playoffs. Maintaining that rotation will keep guys like Eason and Kirschke fresh and able, while reducing the chance of one of the big 2 getting injured. I wouldn’t mind seeing what Roye is capable of anyway.

According to coach T you’ll get a chance to see Roye.

Keisel is out for two months...

…and we will be hurting with the DE replacements.

mixed info

one place said 2 months, but others are saying 1 month or week to week. We were only using a 6 man rotation on the DL before anyway, so I doubt we’ll sign anyone else. If we wanted to sign Moore, we would have done it before when he wouldn’t get any playing time. I think Roye will be a little better at taking on blocks than Eason, but maybe not as much of a pass rush threat as him or Keisel. His big issue is staying healthy. If we get another injury, especially a long term one, we’ll have to start thinking more seriously about signing someone.

Tomlin's PC

Tomlin’s words were that he was week to week. The 2 months figure came from an un-named source. He’ll definitely be gone a while.
