What a surprise...

I was reading ESPN.com (the same article that said that FWP and Big Snack would be out this week), and at the end of the article, about the second-to-last paragraph, I saw this:

Star-divide

"Tomlin said no personnel moves will be made along the offensive line, despite the repeated breakdowns in protection that had Roethlisberger constantly ducking defenders. The Steelers (2-1) were held to 160 yards, with 33 yards rushing on 19 carries."

Is anybody surprised at all? This is disappointing. I can't believe Ben is not even going to be limited at practice this week, he needs some rest after that debacle.

I would pass

Though I was hoping we would get him when the Browns picked him up in FA, he is not the answer now. He wants big time starting center money. That is the reason the Browns just let him go. If he was willing to take less money, back up rolls, or ride the bench with a chance to compete, someone would have signed him by know. Odds are he is damaged goods. He can’t pick up the offense and come in and start.

Maybe in the off season, but I think sadly we are stuck with the O-Line we have.

Of course. Why would we make changes. The did virtually nothing this offseason. I hope they don’t keep Smith move Colon inside as a backup once a rookie they SHOULD draft in 09 is ready. I am very sick of Kendell Simmons too. He has been the weak link for a while. Why in the world is Simmons still here. Someone please tell me!!! When will Chris K be ready. I mean he has been here for like 4 years and he hasn’t been great. Sure he has been the best part of the Steelers line but come on thats not saying much. Hartwig is very replaceable. I think they should get rid of every player on that line after the Eagles game. But realistically they should cut Simmons. Do not resign M. Smith. And sign some Free Agents and Draft some gems.

As for Big Snack. Good. Hoke plays harder and the defense was actually better when Hoke is in. Kirscke and Aa.Smith are good. I would not worry about the D-Line. Now if Smith goes down it is time to worry. Hopefully Mendy doesnt fumble!!!
The Steelers might be in touble. (On the Offensive side anyway!!!)

not sure I don't like it

Yeah normally you like to shale things up but o-lines do need time to play well together as a unit. There’s just no way around that.

You are at least challenging these guys to perform by leaving them in there, at home in front of all their fans AND a national audience that includes their peers on Monday Night Football against a division rival that has a tough D (so far anyway against the bungles and the brownies).

The OC needs to step up big time, the QB, and the RB’s and TE’s (who missed some protection assignments themselves), as well as the wideouts.

The D should be able to keep us in this one, so good luck guys and Mendenhall and GO STEELERS!

20-9 Steelers.

No surprises...

I would have liked to see some shake ups personally if nothing else but to make Max Starks actually earn that 7 million he’s getting! However, I understand the coaches not making knee jerk decisions that would come back to bite us. If they start sitting down the linemen, then theyd have demote our entire offense including coaches because they all stunk up the field in Phily Sunday. But, if they get manhandled and line up and look like a high school team after Monday night, heads will have to roll!
I still believe signing LaCharles Bentley can’t hurt. I know that’s just too easy for our FO.

Can't wait to silence the Squeelers

You guys are gonna get embarrassed by a team that nobody expected anything from this year. And the icing on the cake, it’s gonna be at home on monday night!!! Take a walk with me down memory lane… You can almost hear the footsteps of Bart Scott comin free off the edge, and theflagalents exiting Ben’s body as he gets a greeted by a member of the Greatest Defensive Franchise in the history of the game. The ignorance of Steelers fans is unprecedented. On the Ravens blog all the Squeelers fans say is that we beat two bad teams…Completely ignoring the fact that their only two winds were against the same teams!!! Pitt’s stupidity is amusing. Take it from me, i live in PA for work purposes, but im from bmore, and let me tell you that from an outsiders point of view, PA is, for the lack of a better word, an absolute HORRID place to live. I understand it’s all you people know, but it truly sucks!!! sorry. LETS GO RAVENS!!!!

by Bmore Stylez on Sep 23, 2008 7:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

the only footsteps i hear is ed reed limping off the field after he got OBLITERATED by hines ward. as far as great defenses go i can live the next 100 years and never see a steelers linebacker get DESTROYED by a wide reciever. ed reed, bart scott YOU GOT JACKED UP!!!!!!!!!

by 86_STRONGER_THAN_STEEL on Sep 23, 2008 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really? You’re kidding right? You Squeelers fans take pride in that hit on Reed??? I was JUST chatting with a Squeelers fan on one of our blogs about how that was a cheap shot considering Reed was defenseless and not actively pursuing the play. That Squeelers fan had enough sense to agree with me. Beyond the point, what’s Hines gonna do when any of our world class linebackers shows him some tough love on a crossing route over the middle? and don’t you worry, we don’t need to hit defenseless players, and then celebrate about it.I doubt we’ll see it happen because everyone knows that catching a ball over the middle versus the Ravens is a life changing decision. Furthermore, is that bitterness i sense? Oh yes, bathe me in the glory of your sweet sorrow. It hurts you that the Ravens defense in the last decade has out-done the greatest pride of Squeelers football, they’re beloved Steel Curtain defense. It’s not even close, the Ravens have claimed the title as the Greatest Defensive Franchise in history. Like i said, i live in PA, do yourself a favor, get out of this place while you still can!!! Before you’re entire family lives next door to you and your cousin is also your brother. Unless you’re already one of them.I realize that most Squeelers fans have never left the state so I say this as genuine and sincerely as i can, PA sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

by Bmore Stylez on Sep 23, 2008 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

I see Hines, Santonio, Heath go over the middle quite often vs. Rays Murders…uh, I mean Ravens defense and it’s not a “life changing decision” (unless they talk to Jamal, who tries to sell them some coke). They get hit, hold on, and move the chains.

And the Steeler D has been as good or better than the Raven D every year since 2000. Quit blowing smoke out your ass and go back to loving your purple uniforms.

I also find it funny

you attack PA. I mean, seriously, come on. Can’t think of anything else clever enough to say?

And has it also occurred to you most Steeler fans live outside Pennsylvania? Unlike the Ravens, we have a national following and aren’t restricted by a state (or, I suppose in your case) region’s boundaries.

One last comment

I do find it funny how all you talk about is “the defense”. How ‘bout that offense? You’re on, what, “franchise QB” number 6 or 7? I forget, I mean, your ’chise has only existed 10 years or so. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

That’s honestly like my Lions fan friends bragging about how sweet the Lions kicking game is, with Jason Hanson and Nick Harris carrying the franchise and all.

FIVE RINGS!!!

To be considered the best defense of all time you should win more than just ONE super bowl. Granted they are tough, but if the ‘D’ was thta good you rrecord last year should have been better. Anyway the Steel Curtain dominated a whole decade. Your defense has been very very good, but not great. Name the HOF’s that are on your team as far as defense, now compare that to how many are IN the HOF from our team. Should be easy to see the difference.

Sorry for the delay...

Baltimore has 3 Superbowls. The Colts count right? I mean if you count your age old championships, than we can do the same. So considering that we didnt have a team for over a decade and we’re still only 2 behind…that is nothing to gloat about at all.

I speak from experience though, you have nothing to argue, i’m from Bmore, and i live in PA…and i’m telling you that Baltimore is…..i honestly fail to find words… There is no comparison to be made between Bmore and PA. Bmore is far and beyond a higher standard of living. And the people are much much more civilized, cleanly, sophisticated, and have all of their teeth. Come visit the harbor sometime, enjoy the sights, catch a Ravens game, you won’t go back!!!

Since when did football involve

Bashing other fans home cities, Bmore? And for the second time I’ve had to use this phrase, but I’m not even 16 years old and I can tell you that attacking a team’s city, is pretty sad. And the insults you throw out at those from PA, just goes to show how sad the Ravens are that you can’t find anything to make fun of so you resolve to going after something that has nothing to do with football. Real tough, big guy. No matter, it makes kicking your sorry ass off the field all the more worth while.

My negative comments towards your beloved state have everything to do with my disgust for it, and the people that live in it. I’ve lived here for work for two years now and cannot stand it!!!! You people don’t realize what life is suppose to be like because the majority of you have never left the state. You’re as ignorant to the real world as the Amish. I promise you, come to Baltimore, you will not return. People are intelligent, the girls are good looking, and we don’t get that smell of shit every couple of weeks from the fields being fertalized. I walk out of my door and see the entire family, cousins and uncles included, sitting on the porch drinking beer. We call them hicks!!!! God, just thinking about PA adds to my discontent for this place. Do yourself a favor, Get out!!!!! As soon as my lease is up, me and my girlfriend are out of here!!!!

I’m sure your impending move from PA will be a sorrowful loss to the state.

I have to agree that putting down a team’s state is one of the sorriest attempts at trash-talking I’ve ever seen.

Your Raven’s do normally have a good or better defense, but a team needs production on both sides of the ball to prosper (see our game versus the Eagles if you question that.)

Dellusional Squeelers

You know for a fact that that all of Ben’s stats were hollow because we we’re missing our two starting star corners. Don’t try to talk to me like i’m stupid, you’re the one from PA.You know as well as i do that our backup corners were the ONLY reason Ben put up those numbers so i don’t have any idea why you would bring it up. That’s like Dolphins fans bragging to the Pats that they kicked their ass, when everyone knows theyre not the Pats without Brady. Typical ignorant Squeelers fan, no education, no substance. None of you can out debate me. I’m highly educated and not in-bred. One more thing, maybe if your links worked, i might find some humor in them. Awww, what’s the matter country boy? Read the quote at the bottom of my posts. You might have to hit up wikipedia to look up “attrition” but then again your browser might not work again.

It’s my opinion that the embarrassing amount of touchdowns were the result of the raven’s turning over the ball so many times. Mcnair was injured too right? Harrison had nothing to do with it.

You’re just like ray-ray, whining in the locker room after the game without giving any credit to the Steelers and their superior play.

I’m done with you. You’re out of your element.

Soooo unreasonable. Oh i’m humbled by your superior intelligence. I’m sure your entire family is gathered around the computer shouting out what to say next. I do give credit where credit is do, it is you who obviously fails to recognize that every QB ripped us a apart without our corners. How can you just disregard the fact that missing two pro bowl corners had nothing to do with 5 touchdown passes? And i suppose you think the Dolphins would’ve had their way with the Pats with or without Brady, and that’s only one pro bowler, we were missing two. You know it’s true, but your pride refuses to admit it. It’s a no brainer, which possibly explains your stance in the argument.

You're a tool

What is your deal? You here talking smack cause your team won 2 games? You forget the beat down your team took last year on MNF? BTW, your corners got beat by our 4th string WR for TDs. Your guys sure did talk a big game before and after the it though. When the nomores start winning the AFC North on a regular basis, then you can talk. But c’mon, you had one good year in the last 5 and you are here talking like they are world beaters. You win two games this year and you’re talking. Man, are you really Fart Scott trolling here or what? Here some stats for you genius. Since 2001, when the AFC North was formed, here are the standings for those years:

2001: Steelers – 1st, nomores – 2nd
2002: Steelers – 1st, nomores – 3rd
2003: Steelers – 3rd, nomores 1st
2004: Steelers – 1st, nomores 2nd
2005: Steelers – 1st, nomores 4th
2006: Steelers – 2nd, nomores 1st
2007: Steelers – 1st, nomores 4th

That would be 5-2 if you can’t count. The only thing the nomores do consistenly is talk tough, just like their fans, I guess.

And if you hate PA so much, why don’t you move your sorry ass back to bmore or is that b-less? Unfortunately, b-less would be nothing without DC, it’s where all the losers that can’t afford to live in DC reside. Sounds like you can’t afford to live in b-less so stop ripping on the only place you can afford to live. Next thing you know, you’re gonna be ripping into trailer homes.

Dude, you really need to chill out, you sound like the ignorant one and trust me, I know a lot of ignorant people (they clean my house, wash my car, and mow my lawn) and you definately sound like one of those losers who has nothing else going on in their life other then their miserable team. Did your mommy not give you enough love? Maybe she did? Maybe she and your “daddy” gave you too much love.

And how can you say anything about the living standards of Bmore… You live in PA!!!! I speak from experience considering i’ve did both, PA isn’t in the same class as Bmore. Philly is alright, it’s a lot like Btown, but everywhere else, simple minded country folk. All the trash talking in the world isn’t gonna get the Squeelers up for what’s about to be handed to them. ok punk

Be a man and come on this board after the outcome of the game. You don’t sound highly educated at all. Your responses make you sound like someone who is rather uneducated… “I speak from experience considering I’ve did both”, just for one example. As everyone else has said, alot of people on this site don’t live in PA, and haven’t for a long time, owing to careers, education, etc. For the record, I turned down scholarships to three Baltimore-area schools, all after comprehensive visits to them, so I know Baltimore pretty well. Just like every other major city, there are good parts and bad parts. The bad parts of Baltimore are worse than the worst parts of Pittsburgh. Both have some gorgeous suburbs.

Dear highly educated Baltimore Fan,

Delusional is spelled with one “l.” I suggest you learn it, because you clearly are it. Also, one subject is sufficient, as in this instance: “we we’re missing.” Finally, you may be highly educated, and not “in-bred” but you certainly are an ass.

Welcome to the site. Stick around. You might learn a thing or two to add to that vaunted education of yours.

As if any number of typos has anything to do with my level of intelligence or reasoning. How bout i start saying cuz instead of because, i bet that will really tip your cows. I understand that the Squeelers are a great source of pride for an otherwise worthless and simple-minded group of people. Does it not keep you up at night knowing that the Ravens defense makes your “Steel Curtain” look like it was made of aluminum?? You’re lucky we lost the Colts or else we would’ve owned you country folk so hard over the past decade that this wouldn’t be a rivalry. Consider yourself enlightened.

Honestly, the only discussion I have seen from any baltimore fan on an SBN site has been trash talk. That’s not what I’m here to do, and I doubt most of us are either.

No changes

back to the point raised in the post before the troll arrived. I can’t see Tomlin changing personnel or coaching 3 weeks in. And as terrible as it looked in every department on offense, I can’t argue with him. Changing personnel frequently is not a recipe for success and offensive coordinators need time with their people. I dislke Arians, but I’m not ready to ditch him during the year which I believe would sacrifice the season. However, Coach Z. I’d really like to see you gone.

I’m sure your very successful, for a PA person… but i’m so far and beyond above every PA person i’ve ever met….Anyways, the real reaosn i came….. If you guys change coaches three weeks in it will completely destroy any superbowl aspirations. The same way that players build chemistry amongst themselves, so do does the coordinator with his players. Furthermore, what kind of message would that send to the players? Wait till the end of the season,Colbert will handle it… A change of coordinator is much more devistating than change of head coach… with new coordinator comes new system to learn… so while you guys may have gotten lucky by having a smooth transition with tomlin, don’t expect one when replacing Arians…. oh look at that, bmore boy knows some fuzzzball

“Bmore Stylez”, you should change your name to “Need Some Style”. If PA is so bad, why are you there? You sound like you are so freaking smart that you can work anywhere you please. You can be an assistant manager of a Kinko’s anywhere.

Ok, Baltimore is heaven on earth according to you, but what do you have to show for it? the crab cakes or THE CITY THAT THE COLTS LEFT? You can’t even keep a team, and you inherit the re-tread Brownies.

What do people think of when they hear the name Pittsburgh? I’ll tell ya, you moron: Honest, hard working, blue collar work ethic, heritage, pride, Steelers, Penguins, even the Pirates (two World Series in the 70’s against, gee I forget, they had birds on their caps), GREAT sports town, great food, great traditions and people that are down to earth and mince no words, and we watch each others back. Tell me the first thing anyone thinks of when the hear “Baltimore”? I can’t think of anything either.

as I said

above, I’ve been to Baltimore dozens of times. Nothing special. Certainly not anywhere in the vicinity of San Diego (where I’ve lived for two years).

Country Folk?

I’ve been to more places on this earth than you can count on all eleven of your toes. I note that you are really into the incest theme. You know the type, hicks that spell cousins with an E? Gimme a break. Your ignorance is showing. Besides, I thought I told you to go to bed without your dinner. (Sorry Steeler Ric, I couldn’t help it again, but this guy is a million laughs.) A Baltimore Sophisticate. Bmore, come back soon, we need the delusional humor. Don’t forget your banjo and your store bought teeth.

ahh so you agree? my stereotype based assessments of your people is accurate. Now tell bill-joe and bobby-sue to get inside before it gets dark. Can’t wait for this monday, it’s gonna be one hing dang of a hoe down!

By no means did i say Bmore is the best city… Only when compared to any place in PA does that prove true. I can admit that Philly is pretty cool. It’s an alright place, reminds me a lot of Bmore, the people as well. Not sure what the smell was you spoke of… but surely it’s nothing compared to the fertalizer smell that pollutes PA’s air every couple weeks…. You just can’t admit it to me because i hold a strong distaste for your state, but i know that you know, the harbor is a very beautiful place. Especially at night… come to a ravens game!!! we’ll grab a crab cake after the game!

by Bmore Stylez on Sep 23, 2008 11:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Disagree

No, the harbour is AVERAGE at best. I have been to much better places for everything you have mentioned. The stench I mentioned is of dead fish from the boats leaking diesel into the harbour.

Philly is WAY better then b-less. You can’t find a Victor Cafe in b-less.

by vin2k on Sep 23, 2008 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Boats in the harbor??? Now i know you’re full of it because the only boats that are allowed in the inner harbor are water taxis and paddle boats. The commercial and residential ports are miles and miles down the bay. I’ll know not to take you serious anymore.

by Bmore Stylez on Sep 23, 2008 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and besides… i’m not hating on Philly. I’ve been, and i approve. It’s the only place in PA which i approve, but that is also because it holds a striking resemblence to Btown.

so those cheesy tour boats are not really boats?

No idea what you’re talking about. Though i like your creativity.

So please tell me who is the real TOOL here. The man fluttering you all with insignificant bicker. Or the ones allowing themselves to be toyed with as a means of passing time? You’ll never be half as good as Bmore, not just in football, but in society. And i’ve proved that. One bmore boy against a bunch of wester pennsylvanians and i still prove to be the most competent and of superior intellect. I do give dredit where it is due, and country folk are usually tougher than city folk, but as far as intellect, you people fail. Brains over country bronze my…friends?

Baltimore and Pittsburgh both suck.

Ive lived both places and neither one are that great. I would probably rather live in Bmore but since this is a football blog who really cares. Bmore Stylez…..sounds like a gay Baltimore hair salon. How can you even compare these two teams. First of all your defense is very good. I will grant you that one, but its also old as dirt so enjoy it now because in 2-3 years RayRay will probably just turn to dust. We too have have a pretty good defense. Best in the league last year and even younger and better this year with our new LBs. Secondly the Baltimore offense is sad. So i hope your defense plans on scoring a few TDs because i just dont see Flacco doing anything. Hes looked great so far by the way.

lol

Sounds like a hair salon. Lol. I’m ending this nonsense tomorrow. Have fun while it lasts!

LMAO

bmore, nice hair cut

Go Steelers

Back on topic. I think there needs to be some change in scheme and game planning as opposed to personell at this point. I saw several times where Philly rushed only 3 linemen and Simmons just stood there confused as to who to block. Could this be a result of the new zone blocking scheme?

by vin2k on Sep 24, 2008 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Zone blocking

It really only affects the running game. I actually thought Simmons played well, whereas Kemo an Hartwig were the ones wearing the dunce caps. I agree that we need to be able to pick up blitzes of these types better, though. The Cowboys didn’t give up any sacks against the same team last week.

Obviously

Bmore has never read this blog. I’d say over half, probably more like 75%, of the posters on this site live in other parts of the country. That’s one of the reasons we looked for a site like this, to find other Steelers fans to talk with, because we have to put up with the fans of the teams whose cities we live in.
