For now, we celebrate. Plenty to talk about later, but for now, this was a win we had to have. It sure was a fun second half!

to recap

we can’t pass protect.

we have no running backs left.

our d is sick, but can’t be on the field that long.

our guys can out-tough anyone.

when ben lets the ball go quick our offensive line looks better.

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 30, 2008 12:19 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

moore != no running backs

he was clutch – big part of how we got the W

by acrollet on Sep 30, 2008 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

don't get me wrong - i love mewelde moore

but do you consider him an every down back? and even if you do… what happens if he goes down?

i was telling family (steelers fans) they would love Moore during the offseason. But still, i don’t see him as the answer on every play.

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 30, 2008 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

actually

Our pass protection was very good tonight. Ok fine, not very good. Biut MUCH MUCH better.

by Blitzburgh on Sep 30, 2008 12:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

in the second half, maybe

let’s face it; they’re not good, but not as bad as some think. i do agree with Lolley… ben holds the ball too long.

what’s frustrating is that he can make those plays…. more frustrating is that he’s still a damn good qb when releasing quickly.

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 30, 2008 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Last 3rd down in OT, rusher through the middle, quick release. F’ing solid.

by steelguy99 on Sep 30, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I should note I almost shit a brick when that rusher came through

Anyone Else...

Think that kick was gonna hook at the last second?

by Hines Ward on Sep 30, 2008 12:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

no

when simmons is healthy he retakes it. Tomlin is consistency over potential. I’d be surprised. Consistently bad beats inconsistently great in his book, it seems.

by syrsteelerfan on Sep 30, 2008 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Great game,..

..but you guys get lucky and pull it out. At the same time, the good teams always get lucky. We thought we earned the right to win, but you guys did it to us once again. A lot different than last season and thedivision is still up for grabs. Good luck in Jacksonville next week.

Nice to hear from a sensible Baltimore fan.

youre absolutely right too

Good point about teams finidng ways to capitalize on a break to steal games they have no business winning. sure seemed that way to start

by Blitzburgh on Sep 30, 2008 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

we outplayed them

in the 2nd half, just as much as they outplayed us in the first half. i mean look at the numbers (and this isn’t the only reason I say that), total yards ended up just about the same, they dominated the first half, we dominated the second. so the game was pretty much even. we did the better job in OT and won the game. we deserved to win.

by TheMostViolentTeam on Sep 30, 2008 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ben calls plays in 2nd half

Ben said that the coaching staff let him call the plays in the second half. Does anyone else think that they might continue this?

they better

because arians tries to be a hero

"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball

Momentum

Is what we’re going to need to carry us for the next two weeks. I think everyone in the starting lineup got up slowly at some point. But I like that we owned that second half. Welcome to Woodley and Timmons.

my recap

stapleton>Simmons

Arians prefers 4th later adjustments rather than 2nd half ones

Moore, clutch, good free agent

Reed, clutch as always

Holmes, play of the game

1310 comments between the three threads...Is that a record...

Wow, we did what champions do and that is to find a way to win. And there’s nothing the Ravens can make an excuse about, they stuck with us the whole game, but the rookie couldn’t do it. And the fact that we fought through all the adversity that we did, what with all the injuries and sacks, it’s incredible but I gotta say LaMarr and Mr. Monday, James Harrison led us to victory…

Hines Ward has lost a step

I noticed it in the Eagles game on a screen past,.,….he looked slower than a slug. Today he should have had the touchdown,..but the way he slipped looked like his brain said “cut to the left” but his body just couldn’t pull it off anymore.

Makes me sad to think he’ll be leaving us in the near future :(

by ismail on Sep 30, 2008 12:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

pfft

Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison lost the speed of their 20s and still were productive for years. Hines can thrive in a system that relies on him to make tough catches in traffic on quick hitting plays but we;re not running things like that to him so hes been negated.

by Blitzburgh on Sep 30, 2008 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

dont disagree

My response was to ismail’s comment that he’ll be gone soon. Wexell told us that Ward looks as good as ever physically.

hehe

Well, we still have major issues but what counts is we CHANGED THINGS UP. Granted one of the big changes was not a choice but because of an injury (Stapleton vs Simmons), but the quick passes to Moore were WONDERFUl and the no huddle of course was long over due. Good to see though, guys and gals. GOOD to see.

With all the major injuries, does anyone think that Sweed might slip in with the guys they bring in to fill the roster spots?

Sucks for Simmons but I’ve seen it before, sometimes just one change in the line can bring about amazingly profound changes as a whole. May be wishful thinking for now, but I’m holding out hope. Sucks its at his health’s expense but oh well.

gary russell will get a chance to show his stuff. and we might see if verron haynes or najeh davenport are available.

benson

Its not going to happen but I think it would be the wisest of the choices. Who cares if hes had a run with with alcohol and the law or was a petulant punk at 20 years old. Hes on his LAST chance in the league and he’s not dumb enough to blow it. Hell, look at what Pacman JOnes is doing in Dallas. Got his shit together because his ability to make a payhckec rides on his behavior.

Benson, if his leg was healthy, would be much better than most guys wed find off the street.

Just playing devils advocate. Doubt wed even consider that direction in the first place.

He’s week-to-week. I think we should be fine.

you think

it’s parker, russell as backup, moore and davis? billy latsko might get signed as FB until Davis is healthy.

that seems like our staff, if you add say justin vincent to ps (is he there already?)

Moore

Was so money late for us. Do Willie Parker or any of our other backs make those catches he made? He made them look routine but those were bang bang plays with defenders right on him with the game on the line. Love it.

Hell no, That is the reason why i thought the steelers sign him to the burgh to make plays like that...

Wonder why it took so many players to get hurt before we saw him more often

however, may be more 40-60 that he doesnt play since we have a bye week after next weeks game

May try to rest him for three weeks to make sure he is 100% before we take on the rest of the season

Mason/RB situation

Every time we play the Ravens, Mason lights us up like a Christmas tree. No matter the quarterback , he always seems to thrive against us. Switch up personnel and put some different guys on him. Deshea was on him most of the night. Also Moore was a key part of that victory. Great 3rd down conversions and had good chem with Ben. But now we are short, do we have a Shaun Alexander sighting?
