The Return of Dookie

Just across the wire:  The Steelers are bringing back Najeh Davenport.

Can't say I'm thrilled about it, but 1/4 of the way through the season and you are as thin at a skill position as we are, I suppose it's best to bring in someone who knows the offense and can play right now, rather than risk bringing in someone who may take a few weeks to learn the system.  I'm looking forward to seeing what Gary Russell can do, myself.

At least we have a kick returner now! Insert incredibly large sarcastic emoticon.

I “can’t wait” to see him against jacksonville again.

Anyone think that Cedrick Benson would be a better addition than Najeh? I know he doesn’t know the offense but Najeh didn’t produce much. I suppose Najeh would be good for blitz pickup..I think??

Meh

Davenport was never great at anything, including blocking. I hope they don’t put him above Russell on the depth chart. I’d rather see what the young guy can do. Najeh wasn’t bad last year, but his stats are pretty deceiving. He had a couple big runs and one good game against the Rams that make it look like he was good last year. On the plus side, I’m assuming we’re paying him the vet min, so he should be cheaper than last year.

Najeh

There’s a reason that he’s available right now. Still, we need him now with Mendy out.

100% agree

I figured we would bring Davenport back. He is serviceable and knows the offense. Right now we need another body. I just hope he is riding the pine and playing special teams, and they give Russell a chance. From what I read, everyone is guessing Moore will start, but I hope we get a good 50/50 60/40 mix with him and Russell.

Agreed

I would definitely prefer to see some of the younger guys get a shot. We need Najeh for insurance.

Cedric Benson was found in a basket when he was a newborn..

…in a college dorm room closet shortly after Najeh Davenport passed by.

take it from a bears fan

we want dookie. He knows the system and is a decent pass-catcher running screens and such.

Benson’s got next to nothing going for him. He’s a pain.

What's a screen?

I havent seen us run a screen in (seems like) years. Do we really think the FO would be agile enough thinkers to bring in an outsider at this point?

My guess, they’re in negotiations with Dookie, Haynes and Kreider!!! (Yes, I’m laughing…on the inside)

Got 5? ... We do! Check the RINGS!!!

Mendy

Man, I am still bummed he got hurt. Factoring in the o-line and the play calling, I thought he was doing alright for his 1st start especially against the Ravens D. I saw a lot of him in college, and he never had an injury. Looking on the bright side, at least it’s not a knee.

Someone tell the kid to start drinking more milk.
