Shaun Alexander
Anyone think that he would be a good stop gap for us? He breaks easily, but I mean, we wont be counting on him forever, and if he does break, we are just back right where we are now. It was only a few years ago he was an MVP and one of the best running backs in football. He will take some pressure off Ben. I want to know what you all think, but I just cant see a downside to this. I think he is a lot like Byron, just needs a shot on a good team. And when Willie comes back he will make a good back up. He is better than anyone else we could bring in there.

Shaun Alexander
I agree even though it would take him some time learn the system. Sign him to a single year and see what developes. I think he is the best out there currently waiting for a home.

I would pass
in my opinion he is is soft, and behind our current o-line he would just cost us money.

Interesting tought, but definately a loooooong shot....
I would like to at least see our FO being creative enough to take a look at someone like Alexander.
Of course they’ll probably just bring in the “usual suspects” (they already worked out Dookie, anyone have Verron’s number??)
Got 5? ... We do! Check the RINGS!!!

I'm happy with the dooke
especially with the other options out there. Najeh knows the system better than any back we’d bring in and he was a serviceable back up during his time, he just didn’t serve as a starter when we needed one.

Davenport is our best option at this point
Alexander is over the hill, and as everyone could see last year, he just isn’t the same after his last injury. Not to mention, other teams with similar injury problems at running back or even teams just looking for a decent veteran RB still passed on him.

I just cant see a downside to this.
The downside of signing Alexander is that he sucks. He’s a 31 year old back with over 2,100 carries in his career. He’s also not a threat out the backfield (not that we use that very much) so he’s not a great 3rd down option. I’d also have to think that if he was willing to accept the veteran minimum and a backup role, he’d already have a job.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Dan Rooney and Kevin Colbert like to get rid of overpriced veterans that have already played their best football. Signing one as a stop-gap for a few weeks is not in their playbook.

I agree with what you guys are saying. It isnt like the Steelers to pay more for someone like that. But we are desperate, would you rather have defenses preparing for Mewelde Moore, or Shaun Alexander?

After watching the second half of Monday’s game, I’m riding on the Mewelde Moore bandwagon.
