Steelers vs. Chargers - Divisional Round Open Thread
Hey folks,
I'm filling in for our fearless leader Blitzburgh, who's out of pocket today to watch the game, hopefully in a sea of Black and Gold. (Not too likely in Seattle!)
All the questions get answered today - will the O line put it together? Is Big Ben's head clear? Is Sproles all that? I think we're all hoping that the current trend of top seeded teams getting knocked off comes to an end right now.
HERE WE GO STEELERS!

We are talking about
Steeler Fans. I have no doubt he found a safe haven full of Black and Gold. We are everywhere!
20 more minutes till game time
I am so freaking nervous. It reminds me of election night.
I’m just praying for zero interceptions. If we don’t turn it over, then we will win.
If we lose to San Diego, then I will be crying myself to sleep.
can't wait
got my farrior jersey on
steelers cap on
steelers football here
terrible towel hanging from the mantel
ward jersey on
steelers cap on
steelers football (which i hold while they are on offense)
and terrible towel (which i hold while on D).
and bad call brick, which i throw at the tv numerous times during the game.

It’s all good…
He's good for a fantasy team, but he's inexplicably infuriating as a real person.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Watch out for that freaking punter of theirs.
Best of luck to you guys. All the Indy fans are counting on you to end the chargers run. :)
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Yeah, let bygones be bygones.
We still feel pretty good about the 2006 season :D
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Besides, the chargers are more of a thorn in our backsides lately
(they eliminated us last year, too) and they’re infinitely more annoying. Rivers. what a prick.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Salute the Duck
I haven’t been around long enough to get a read on all the posters here, but I think we owe a visitor a rec or two for his participation over the past week.
Everybody raise a glass for MarineCorpsDuck.
Frankly, it’s a shame he follows the Chargers. Over the past week, the duck has provided worthwhile insight, humor, and a reality check for us enthusiastic Steeler fans. He’s tolerated ribbing from us and left good-natured and civil posts in reply to many recent threads. Dangit, he’s almost cuddly.
Let’s raise a glass to a friendly fan in the moments before our Steelers raze his playoff hopes. :-)
That’s where you’re wrong. NOBODY can teach a cowboy fan ANYTHING, lol!
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.

Aww, thanks.
OK, somebody said “Cheers”. I guess that makes it COCKTAIL TIME! brb…
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Before going into full game mode
Maybe we should have a poll or post for most knowledgeable and classy opposing fan.

Styx...
Played the opening of Renegade live. Man, if that doesn’t fire you up…
Gaming the Turf
Anyone else think that the Steelers organization deliberately keeps the field “bad”, to throw other teams off their game?
My beloved spouse is huddled with a tiny hi-def portable TV
..in the back room of his store, trying desperately to tune in CBS. Poor guy. He loves the steelers and doesn’t have the day off.

hee hee, San Diegans don't see much snow.

You guys mind a Broncos fan joining you to cheer on the Steelers?
Tough start but Chargers defense is their achilles…they’ll give up some points.

Hey Steeler Fans
Just watched my Birds polish off the Gnats… Here’s hoping the Steelers do the same to San Diego.
Quick Kick!
Not bad, Kordell Stewart would have approved
ok good series
good sign from the running game – need to make sure we keep the field turned on them..no more than 1 1st down. hopefully 3 and out
the pooch punt...i love it.
Reminds me of Elway.
I am the eggman...they are the eggman...I am the Mermaid...Goo Goo Gajoob!!!
Sproles is so difficult to spot behind thos O linemen.
He just pops out of nowhere.
I am the eggman...they are the eggman...I am the Mermaid...Goo Goo Gajoob!!!
nice floaty pass
now Phillip, float it towards Troy’s direction!
yes sir
Deebo was being held too. its going to take perfect execution – which they got on that first drive – to beat us consistently on d
YEAH BABY! woo-hoo Holmes!!
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
no flags? no flags! Goodie!
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Santonio!!!!!
I wasn’t even brave enough to call for it!!!
Not even in my wildest dreams…. but I guess he was due!
Way to take out that camera man!
And good run too! :-)
I could almost hear him saying..
“scuse me, pardon me, watch your step there…”
All themway down the field.
Reminds Me...
Of Randle El in that Cleveland Wild Card game. Redemption that puts us right back in it.
big series here
Lets get out offense back on the field and get back to the ground game. Have to just tip your hat to SD on that first drive but lots of positives nonetheless even at 7-7.
Weird
I can’t believe an 8 – 8 team is even on the same field with Pittsburgh in the playoffs.
Screaming Female Steeler fan
That screaming fan, from Denver in 2005 is back near the TV announcers.

I kinda wish they showed the seconds on the comment timestamps
Then we could recapture the simultaneous comment effect on later re-reading. :)

Cause we all know what a hard-workin' blue collar laborer Denis Leary is.
(although I do like his work, don’t get me wrong. I just wouldn’t take his truck buyin’ advice.)

Trying to convince the American public that Pizza Hut is the best pizza you have ever tasted must be the toughest thing ever.
PLAYOFFS?!
Pizza in the Seattle Area is weak for the most part.
A place called Pizza Man is pretty good. Any size, unlimited toppings for $10.49. And they have a $3.99 deal for pizza on Monday. Pretty good stuff.
PLAYOFFS?!
Check your local grocer or Sam's club for a frozen pizza called Home Run Inn.
Holy crap, is that stuff good! The crust and sauce are to die for. I always have one or two in the freezer.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
man
There was space at the second level, couldnt get thru though. Rats. FWP is going to break a 35+ yard run in this one though if the blocking keeps up
howdy crew
been a long time glad to be back for a moment at BTSC. Can you believe I was in the can for the punt return?
good to be back....

Vary it up
I’d like to see some tosses to MM and PA pass to mix up FWP….plus you’re assorted throws to all the other guys.
Steelers have lots of weapons….USE THEM!
I think i am over the Steelers have lots of weapons argument
What we have is a messy offense that sometimes wheezes to life when the players make exceptional plays. BA must go

"I'm an IBMer"
Is that just a total rip off of the “I’m a PC” commercial?
I guess that saves money on hiring your own advertising team.

polamalu
has had zero impact on this game. norv has called an amazing game so far. we need to make some adjustments.
norv and amazing don't belong in the same sentence together.
don’t worry…the chargers will get norv’d sooner or later.

Honorary Steeler fan Roll-Call!
As long as we’re on commercial break, let’s take a survey.
If you’re a fan of a non-steelers team here to cheer on the steelers, please identify yourself by primary allegiance.

how is that a good challenge?
are these announcers on crack?
before the commercial they stated that they weren’t going to get it…so what makes that a good challenege? they burn the time out, they still punt…not a good challenge
not a terrible challenge
2nd quarter..all 3 TOs. nothing to lose

by SteelerBuddha on Jan 11, 2009 5:35 PM EST up reply actions
ok, huge play here
these are the kinds of plays we havent made a lot of the year. to keep good looking drives going
I Love...
This deception on fourth-and-short.
commitment to the run game
is keeping SD from pulling that moving around crap they were using to confuse indy.
i doubt it
dunno. im fine with either decision.
still laugh at mora comersh every time

Do the distort the Audio of Jim Mora's playoff parrot quote,
or did he really sound like that?
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
I wonder what he did in his "gap year" prior to returning to the NFL...
It’ll be weird to see him in seattle
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
commerical, kick, commerical, bad Norv challenge, commercial, turnover, commercial
that’s San Diego next series… watch
Absent for roll call
Eagles fan, first and foremost, Steeler fan secondary.
Nice Punt
A little more hang time, and we’ve got them pinned at their own 1.
+1
they needed to calm down and adjust to Sproles – now they can ramp up a bit….

ooh, a close one.

seems that our corners
are gambling a bit more, and getting a bit less safety help then they are used too, he was wide open
Hey Norv
That’s how you challenge, take notes, Tomlin, Arians, and LeBeau are going to be giving you coaching lessons all day
As long as
Norv give BA some lessons too – its a good trade

Good point. If you have an SB ring, I guess you don't have to win an oscar

enough with the short plays
Steelers need to MIX IT UP!
Great…they run more now….so what…..mix it up!! MILLER AND WARD!!
OK
Caught em when they were trying for a punt block
Secodnly, pin em deep tomlin!!! Our D can handle this!
ooops
spoke too soon…. where is the coverage? Why not put polamulu on him?

Second half
I’m interested to see what the steelers do in the second half.
I suspect that they have spent the 1st half making everyone think RUN. I think the 2nd half will result in more passing….
arians can only resist going deep for so long
and since they have a bad pass D I wouldnt mind trying it some
Two minute offense means
Ben should be calling the plays. That’s good.
When I say who dey, you say we dey.
+1
lets let him loose, and take some smart shots down the field – I think we get at least three here
by SteelerBuddha on Jan 11, 2009 5:58 PM EST up reply actions
It seems
that the game plan so far is to let the D win it, and no to put too much on Ben’s hands in the first half. I have to say, i am liking it so far. Would love to see us mix in a couple more play action passes.
Kaeding is a turd
Did you see him run off the field like he won the superbowl with that kick…42 yarders should be no sweat
Looking forward to a key choke by kaeding later in the game
He’s the one exception to my SBNation signature line wish…
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
we're absolutely fine here regardless of what happens this drive
We’ve been clamoring for the run…we’ve gotten it. Defense is been pretty good though I’m not sure how Polamalu has been used at all. We also get ball to second half.

it's like he's Popeye saying
“don’t know me own strength” … hasn’t got rest all season, and maybe his shoulder’s feeling great
Trick to SD
IMO, looks like you can beat SD by catching them in blitz or coverage…Miller was wide open there…need to capitalize when you get those opportunities.
Green with envy
LIke it on short yardage when they use the three TE… wish we could do that in Philly. Of course, we’d have to have TE that could block to do that.
yea
i was writing to u earlier but erased it that ben does a lot of things head scratchingly bad at times, but he doesnt overthrow guys really.

I'd like to claim that the colts softened him up for you,
but he pretty much ran under the Colts D most of the time. And knowing how short the Colts D is, that’s saying something!
