Greetings Steeler fans!!
Hey Everyone!
I'm a new guy here to "Behind the Steel Curtain". First off, wanna congratulate you guys on the great win over San Diego! Secondly, I would just like to wish you guys luck against the Ravens!
I do have a question though. I'm a HUGE Texas Longhorn fans, and one of my favorite players is a steeler! I haven't seen anything about him, or heard about him being a starter??
What's going on with Limus Sweed?? He was an incredible receiver for us at UT!

Sweed didn’t play that well this year when he was in. A lot of holding calls, and also a few dropped passes like the one late in the game yesterday that went right through his hands.
He’s a rookie though, and we don’t need Rookies to be spectacular their first year.
When I say who dey, you say we dey.

Interesting...
Hopefully he can pull it together. Like I said before, he was great at UT. The one thing that surprises me, is that he had great hands.

touhg for rooks
to break through at WR position. Particularly on this team where he’s been stuck at #4 on the depth chart due to no injurys to the guys ahead of him.
i think he’ll be fine. needs to stop sulking though after small mistakes.

One thing against UT...
Don’t get me wrong…I love the University of Texas…I’m probably the biggest fan in the state of GA….but they do BABY their players…Mack does an excellent job of shielding them from any type of negativity.

excuse?
i don’t know if these is any excuse for the guy but i mean not only is he used to Texas weather and kind of got thrown into frigid weather this year but most players don’t really do too much their rookie year. I don’t remember any rookie besides BB doing a fantastic job and making big contributions especially at WR.

Troy Edwards had a good rookie season, but that was it.

Yeah, that was before we realized we already had a #1 receiver in Hines Ward. I think Ward uses that as motivation to this day.

I'm surprised as well...
because his best attribute was his hands. I’m not shocked he hasn’t been an impact player for you guys because his biggest criticism as a draftee was his route running ability, but I am surprised that he has made some of the mistakes I’ve seen this year. Just a note on the cold weather, his most famous catch as a long horn occured our championship year at Ohio State in cold weather. I’m not saying that fully exhonerates him, just a thought.
Let's get a better fight song.

B-U-S-T
and I’m not talking about in Canton. Sweed looked like he was babied at UT this entire year. He played timid all year and made mistakes. Then, with a chance to make a meaningless play late in a playoff game he dropped the ball like Ike.
I’m afraid we wasted a #2 pick on him. Hope he can improve as I understand that it is tough for a rookie to play WR in the NFL but this guy contributed nothing all year long. Then he disappointed yesterday. If I’m 7 I don’t have a lot of confidence throwing him the ball.

I agree'd he was babied...
BUT…Limus started off slow at UT, then completely came alive later on in his career. Let’s keep in mind, the NFL is a much faster paced game then college ball. Give him a little more time, and you might see that legitimate #2 Draft pick.

Becoming a trend at UT
A lot of big name guys from UT in the past couple of years have went belly up: VY, Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams, Michael Huff. I don’t know much about UT (I’m an SEC guy) but maybe it is Mack’s babying. Most of these guys are accused of having heart issues (figuratively, as in desire, not literally).
Limas looks to be headed down the same road. Fortunately, he has time to turn it around and he has great mentors around him. Hines, of course, but even Nate can relate about underperforming early in his career until he got his head right. Hopefully, Limas will follow suit.

and we all know that Casey Hampton was not babied, in fact he eats babies.

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt for a season, especially since he got next to no PT. It puts a lot of pressure on a guy to have to come in and impress for 1 or 2 plays a game. Some can do it… but it’s tough for a rookie who’s maybe a little excitable. Holmes was the #3 as a rookie and worked his way past Wilson when he got injured. Sweed has 3 WR’s above him who are better than Wilson was and who have been fairly healthy all year.
What he needs is to remember his fundamentals and do his job instead of worrying about the big things. I think he has talent. Tomlin really railed on the 2nd year guys this year in training camp, and I could see him working some magic with Sweed next year.

I would imagine...
Limus used this year to soak up as much as he could from Hines Ward…I mean come on!! It’s HINES WARD… I have all faith that he will have a break out year here in the future…He’s fast and Tall…and on any normal day, has some of the best hands.
I kinda hope that another UT great by the name of Quan Cosby either comes to the Steelers or the Titans…he’s an awesome WR…Best hands I have ever seen!

Yea
Sweed was my favorite draft pick this year do to his stand out character, the ability to make the big play, and the common ground he and I share with our upbringings and rural backgrounds. Yesterday, when the game was said and done he dropped one of the best throws I’ve seen from Leftwich, which would’ve most certainly been a TD if he caught it. Hit him right in the hands and you could tell he was real pissed when it slid out. I feel bad for him, but he’s still got plenty of time to progress. As was said earlier this year on this blog, Sweed was most likely gonna have this rough year of transition, and that’s exactly what happened. Many people compare his play to former Steeler Plaxico Burress, who was a top draft pick for the Steelers several years ago had a terrible rookie season, then turned it up the very next year. I’m still confident the kid will become a major playmaker.
