ben roethlisberger

ben roethlisberger is a really weird quarterback i think. this is because of his career. if you look at it, he is not one of the best statistical quarterbacks today, his numbers are usually on par, not amazing, besided the 2007 season. but even that year he had a weird one, where he would pass like 14 times and get like 4 TDs. and this happened alot last year. but besides him not being that good statistically, somehow he wins. he wins alot, and i dont know how he is up there with the most wins for the first 5 years starting as any other quarterback, other names are otto graham and tom brady. i honestly dont know how he gets it done. i am not sure if it is the team around him or if it is him yet, but i do know he is awfully clutch. so i say, we should get him the ball more!

what are your guys thoughts?

Big players make big plays in big games.

This is opposed to a guy like Romo who puts up huge numbers during the regular season but always seems to fail when it counts.

When I say who dey, you say we dey.

no joke

When he can step into throws he really is awesome. What we saw earlier in the year was quite a bit different than last week. Remember some of those wobbly weak throws in Oct-early Nov?

Long gone!

Roethlisbergers first bad year was in 2006 because of numerous injuries. 2007 was the best year he has had. And he threw 26 times per game.

This year, statistically he is having a below average year but I think facing the best offenses, and defenses and best teams overall have a lot to do with that too. Not too mention the non running game, huge penalties that took back many touchdowns, key drops etc.

Overall this year I’d say was pretty good except for the 3 game stretch in the middle.

If by weird you mean "great".

Ben is a great Qb who has played injured all year. From day one he has made big plays, big throws, in clutch situations. He makes the plays that win games, many times becauce he “holds the ball too long”, right before he breaks the opponents will. He is a winner , period. I’ve been critical of his play at times and a few times its really been his fault ( Colts game, this year and af ew games in 06 after the faceplant) but for 5 straight years we can count on one hand the number of times we had to say our qb blew a game. cmon guys you really think you could say that if Leftwich were Qb. Granted ,it is nice to see his plant foot hit and the ball come out quick, and what a rope he threw to Lameass Sweed, but hes not the qb that Ben is. Ben looked great yesterday, as healthy as hes been since the pre- season, he makes plays the Byron never will. Bottom line, injured and behind a sub-par o-line (how many false starts, holding, and illegal formations in 08?) , against the toughest schedule in 40 years and theyre in the AFC championship game. Or maybe you want Neil or Kordell or Tomczack, Jim Miller, Bubby, Tommy Gun, David Woodley or you’re really interested to see how good Dixon might be and are afraid we’ll lose him. Cmon. Really other than Brady and Peyton Manning who else do you want???? Palmer, Warner, Brees maybe, Eli, Rivers.

Personally, I would rather have Cliff Stoudt,

But seriously, BB is a future HOFer so appreciate him now while you can! Don’t be hating on him like we did Terry Bradshaw. It’s not just the most wins in his first five seasons, and btw, he is about to break Tom Brady’s record for most wins in the first five seasons, including playoffs. No, it’s more than that. Statistically, he is tied for ninth all time in QB rating, despite two sub-par seasons.

Also, it’s not just the total number of wins (51), its how he wins them. He has come from behind in the 4th quarter 17 times. This is almost equal to the number of regular seaon losses (20). The kid can ball. Period. Is there room from improvement? You bet. Which is why the future is bright.

Agreed +1

It’s not a accident that despite all the great teams we had during Cowher’s years here, great RB’s, Defenses, etc .. we only won a SB once we had Ben under centre. He is a genuine Franchise QB worth his $100m contract and someone we need to keep here for the rest of his career because if he stays here, we’ll stay as contenders ..

I think that ...

he plays very much like TB and I find myself alternating between Huzzah! and WTF?! just like I did in the 70’s. If he starts stringing games like he played Sunday then you can truly start visiting Canton to see where his bust will go. As to winning the Super Bowl, BB was certainly the final piece in a puzzle, but that was a great team—most Super Bowl champions are great teams with stars and solid performers on the roster. You will be hard pressed to find a SB roster with only one great player rostered.

I don’t know that he can single-handedly beat any team—if so how could we be 12-4 and not 16-0? A player can single-handedly lose to any team [reference Jake Delhomme], but it takes more than one to win.

As was mentioned above, Ben can single-handledly beat the steelers and in a few of our losses he did that very thing.

He has also "single-handedly" won some,

He brought us from behind in the 4th quarter and onto victory in the following games, Jacksonville, Baltimore, San Diego, Dallas, and Baltimore (again). Now I know other players were involved in these comebacks, but also, other players were involved in his turnovers.

In short, no player, even the QB, really determines victory or defeat. The exception to this rule being Neil O’Donnell, of course.
