Raven's "take-out" of Chris Johnson (NYT article)
The following links you to an interesting article concerning the questionable actions by Ray Lewis and company that resulted in Johnson coming out of the AFC Divisional game last weekend.
Given that the referees flagged the wrong team (Tenn) during the fracas that ensued after manhandling the runningback, I wonder what people think the Steeler players and staff ought to do before and during such an incident this Sunday. This is not an unlikely hypothetical, given what the Ravens did to Mendenhall in the first matchup between the two teams. I wonder whether the Ravens will get out of Pittsburgh alive if they attempt to do this to Willie Parker while the refs stand idly by... Thoughts?

There is no doubt that the Raisins hit very, very hard as do the Steelers, now as to why they can make statements to the fact, make it well known that they are coming with malicious intent, but not get focused attention from the referees is a mystery. After the continued proof that O-Linemen are holding Deebo, it is ignored until he finally breaks through to hit the QB, then the flag is thrown for roughing.
Will the game be called equally on both sides is the question.
Well, my blooming respect for the Ravens just took a hit. That’s pretty messed up, any way you spin it.

I remember watching this play
and thinking that it was extremely dirty. There’s no other way to slice it: Johnson was clearly down, the play was clearly over, and Ed Reed stood to gain nothing aside from inflicting an injury. Maybe I’m wrong for believing this, but I always thought of Ed Reed as one of the more classy and least thuggish players on the purple browns. Perhaps the reason that I thought this is because the other star on their defense is a legit murderer, but anyways…Imagine If Pacman did something like this, I bet there’d be a shitstorm…
Will the purple browns try to do it to the Steelers? Absolutely. I’ll concede that they’re more than capable of injuring us with legal hits, but this play illustrates that if the purple browns get any chance whatsoever to injure or cheap shot, they will take it. I don’t expect anything too ridiculous, just plays like the CJ play, late hits, high hits etc…
If they do something ridiculous, should we retaliate? I’m kind of torn on this one. Flacco will hopefully be getting rattled all day long anyways, and I don’t think it’d be worth it to have a retaliatory cheap shot against concussion prone BB. I also have a little faith that the refs will call a pretty tight game in term of dirty plays(Hopefully not TP-personal-foul-chargers-game tight) because even more people are watching and there’s already been some reffing mistakes.
nah
Ed Reed is one of the ringleaders in their Thuggish ways! Just as arrogant as Ray Lewis, i think Ed is like the under boss.
I don’t know if they were trying to hurt CJ in that play but i believe that try to hit you hard enough that it hurts you, which is legal. It was a little weird seeing him still push on the play but at that point i was going for the ravens so i wanted him to get hurt (Sorry Jesus), but only for the next 2 weeks.

what? Ravens trying to hurt someone?
Or knock them out of a game?
No way, those guys just play hard they aren’t dirty.
Remember last year when the Steelers were handing them their arse on a silver platter in Heinz. They all were acting like perfect gentlemen….. remember Bart Scott – not talking trash or anything after getting blown up by Ward?
Is anyone at all really suprised at this play? I wasn’t suprised that the three involved were inovlved and definitely not suprised the Refs let it go for several seconds after the whistle.
Bullies don’t like to get punched, this Ravens D is a bunch of bullies (don’t get me wrong – very good bullies) – punch them in the mouth (Ward) have some success making them look bad (Steelers 07 in Heinz – CJohnson on Sat) and they resort to bad behavior.
Just one unbiased opinion :)
I didn't get to see the game
nor do they showing that play in any of the highlights………perhaps purposefully.
But it does make you raise an eyebrow. Seems pretty dirty to me but then again, all I’m going on is the article and the pics.
WATCH AGAIN….the flag was on the Tenn. O-lineman, who at the top right of your tv screen, maliciously close-lined Jared Johnson and snapped his neck all the way back. It was dirty and that what the refs were looking at. The ref who called the penalty was pissed at the brutal hit and it came across in his voice calling the foul. It made “The Bend” look tame. You missed it-watch again. I took shit on my site for saying the Reed BEND was unecessary. If the whistle didn’t blow he can be justified for just preventing a final CJ surge for a 1st down. If the whistle blew…Ouch.
We have come to expect
more intelligent answers from you Rexx. What’s up,are you having a bad hair day?
"Whaddya' mean all the beer is gone..?
Yeah, we’re not crying, just saying it was exceedingly dirty and Reed should get at least a fine. If I were a Titans’ fan, on the other hand, I’d be crying that we lost the game because some rotten bastards twisted our star player’s ankle when they couldn’t stop him and made us turn to Lendale White.
I hope Ward goes off on Bart and Ed again.
