One More Elite List You Can Add Big Ben's Name To

The following is a list of QBs who have appeared in two or more SBs with the same team with the number of appearances in parentheses:

Bart Starr (2)

Len Dawson (2)

Bob Griese (2)

Roger Staubach (4)

Terry Bradshaw (4)

Fran Tarkenton (3)

Joe Montana (4)

Joe Theismann (2)

John Elway (5)

JIm Kelly (4)

Troy Aikman (3)

Brett Favre (2)

Kurt Warner (2)

Tom Brady (4)

What else do all these QBs have in common?  They are all in the HOF except for Joe Theismann, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady.   Joe Theismann career was cut short by Lawrence Taylor in a 1985 MNF game.  He was the NFL MVP in 1983 and  he is a member of the college football HOF.  Brett Favre and Tom Brady will become HOFers five years after they retire and Kurt Warner will likely be in there, too, especially with his reemergence this season, becoming only the second QB to lead two different teams to the SB. Craig Morton is the other  (Dallas in 1970 and Denver in 1977).

Now,  in two long weeks, we can add one more name to this list, Ben Roethlisberger (2).  I know  that Roethlisberger  versus Warner doesn't exactly evoke images of  Bradshaw versus Staubach, but still, it's pretty impressive to think that two potential HOF QBs will be facing each other in SB XLIII.

Also, let's hope the SB does for Hines Ward what it did for Lynn Swann.  One more SB MVP for Ward or even a solid game for the winning team will go a long way in swaying votes when the time comes. This also potentially applies to other players like Polamalu, Harrison, Woodley, Timmons, and Parker.  Plus, Coach T, who now becomes the youngest HC to ever reach the SB at age 36, breaking none other than Bill Cowher's record who accomplished the feat at age 38.

In any event, it's beginning to look like we are in the midst of a "Steelers Renaissance", so just sit back, soak it all in, and savor each moment.

     Oh, and GO STILLERS!

nice

I think that Ben will be a HOF after what we’ve seen today and should see in two weeks. Troy has to make it. All I know is that we have a Steeler coach no doubt. I want Tomlin for a very very very long time. Run a Noll Tenure and we will only have 4 coaches in Pitt.

I like Coach Tomlin, too

But it wasn’t one of his better games on the sideline. First, he calls a review where there was very little to be gained. We had the ball first and goal! Not only do we lose the TD challenge, but also the Ref takes away the completion and one of our timeouts! Tomlin was just way too quick with the red flag. I know it was the heat of the moment, but still he should have been a little more judicious there. That cost us 4 points.

Also, we walked away with no points at the end of the half when the clock ran out. I know this is more on BB for throwing the ball in the middle of the field with no timeouts left, but mental mistakes like these still goes back to coaching, IMO. This cost us another 3 points. That’s 7 points that we are very lucky didn’t come back to haunt us.

Other than that, Tomlin looks to be a Steelers fan’s dream and the envy of a lot of fans who cheer for other teams.

Technically

It was Harbaugh’s challenge, not Tomlin’s. And also, if we can have it in the endzone, by all means take it! We are terrible from the 1 yard line. TERRIBLE!

Wow and lol

Thanks you for clearing that up for me! Damn Eagle fans were still being rowdy at the local pub. I thought Tomlin through the challenge. I could have sworn I saw it in his hands. I was so upset that not ony did we lose the challenge for the TD, but also lost the ball on the one yard line and a timeout!

I feel so much better now that it was Harbaugh’s challenge. My sincerest apologies, Coach T.

No respect

Everyone says that Ben sucks, I mean its crazy – I’ve heard people say they’d take Jeff Garcia or Chad Pennington before Ben. I think their hating but the only thing that matters is this….

In his first 5 years…. 3 AFC Championship appearances, 2 AFC Championship wins, 2 Super Bowl appearances, 1 super bowl win and the other to be determined.

What has your QB done for you lately?

A few other stats....

BB is now 7-2 in the playoffs.

We are now 8-0 all time in the playoffs against divisional foes.

We are now 3-0 when we swept during the regular season against said divisional foes. It"s hard to beat a team three times. Blah. Blah. Blah. Tomlin put it nicely when he called this “hocus pocus”.

We are now 2-0 in the AFCCG since ’05, including 1-0 at home!!!! 1-0! That sure does ease some of the pain.

Most importantly, we now have an opportunity to be the first team to own SIX Lombardi Trophies and to restore our rightful place atop the NFL.
