AFFCG Trophy Broken!
PITTSBURGH (AP)— Mere hours after winning the 2009 AFC Championship game and securing a berth in their record-setting seventh Super Bowl, the Steelers Lamar Hunt Trophy was broken.
When pressed for comment, Mike Tomlin chuckled. "After the game we just played, I think it's a very fitting symbol for not only our football team but the season as well. We've had a lot of injuries throughout the season, you know, but guys stepped up. It's a perfect metaphor for our season that will stand for years to come. It's just a shame Mr. Rooney will have to display a broken trophy."
Details about the damage of the trophy, as it passed from player to player in the Steeler locker-room post game were foggy, but one Steeler knew what occurred.
"I passed it off to Limas, and I don't know if he didn't have a firm grip on it, took his eyes off it or what, but all of a sudden I heard a clang and saw [the trophy] bounce off the floor," said Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Information regarding the repair of the trophy was not immediately available.

This isn't real...lol
I wrote it after the game, thinking about how funny it would be for that to happen.
Totally, 100%, B.S. haha.

its well done
pretty damn funny. glad limas made some plays after that gaffe though. we saw how much we need him to be a legit option when ward went down.
that 2nd catch of his was very impressive. tough catch in traffic, made with his hands away from his body while sliding. good stuff. he’ll be fine.

No doubt
I have complete faith in Sweed and the coaching staff. For him, right now, I think he’s just out-thinking himself and not playing the game. The longer he’s around NFL players (and the more he plays, especially in real NFL games, not to mention big ones), the quicker he can stop thinking and start playing.

he still
need to start catch balls, stop stressing so much and just go out there and play, imagine the threat he can be if he start catch those deep ones….

That's Neil O'Donnell's old number.
I don’t think enough time has even gone by yet to see that number again.

That Hit he laid on Rice
Was unreal. Like Jimmy Kimmel said. “highlight reel? The whole thing was a highlight reel!”

If Limas can star channeling Ward’s hands the steelers will be in very good shape – the hit was up there with Ward’s best.

How soon we forget
I remember another Steeler receiver that had the dropsies as well. Nate Washington? Do you remember?

Hines this year!
Poeple were getting all pissy about Hines dropping passes earlier in the year. Happens. Limas will be fine. I’m still confident saying that so long as he remains one of the teams hardest workers – which he is by all accounts.

As much I was on Limas' back for dropping that sure TD ..
..one of the biggest plays of the game was his break up on a potential endzone interception when BB under-threw him .. if that’s picked off, we don’t get that field goal and we’d have been playing from behind 14-13 eventually … HUGE play ..

Yeah. It was a bad throw by Ben, but as you point out, it was a huge play by Limas. It’s what any receiver should do, but Sweed has shown at times that he doesn’t have “the fight” in him. Besides his sore-stomach ouchy, Sweed showed that he can fight for the ball and for his team. The potential is there.

Too Right
I was remarking yesterday to a more casual Steeler fan that Washington was a 3rd or 4th receiver not long ago with a penchant for dropping the ball. He has improved dramatically and is arguably their #1 wideout.
Perhaps Sweed finally turned the corner last night. His drop was horrendous. I have the notion that Tomlin said something to him like – " Hey, we need you to make plays. Get out there and do something to help your team – it’s time". His comeback block was vintage Ward and he actually had a meaningful catch in a big game. If he gets confidense – look out! With him, Wash and Holmes out there you are talking serious speed on the field and finally a jump ball WR in the endzone.

Washington
He’s coming along nicely as a down-field wide-out. But he doesn’t have the post-catch moves of Holmes or Ward. I do see his being the number we call when it’s hail mary time. But I don’t see him being a great slot receiver or anything.

Limas will come around, he’s still a ROOK playing in some TOUGH games against some TOUGH competition.

Good game french fries and coleslaw sandwich dudes. our rookie showed up and Ben did his usual. 3-0 against us…leave 0 debate and no reason to pick the game apart or point fingers. whip Arizona. I would love for you to lose but we can’t rep. tyhe AFC North like that. ..especially to a team that has their grass trayed out for sun bathing.

Limas didnt wanna touch it
I felt so bad for the guy. He really gets way too down on himself. But did you guys see when the trophy was being presented he was standing there. And like Santonio and Rooney were there and kinda had it. And they wanted sweed to hold it and he wouldnt do it.

haha
see thats the kind of crap thats gotta go. hes part of the team – act like it! He worked just as hard as everybody to prepare for games. So what if he screwed up – prep work counts too! Thats the kind of bullshit head case stuff that’s got to be eliminated.

wasn’t the easiest catch..i went out back in an old helmet and tried to do it…i caught it but it was hard and my beer got spilled.

+1, and an lol
As a WR in HS I can say that those over-the-shoulder, deep catches were the worst. And (for me at least) the ones down the left sideline (like Sweed’s was) were the worst of the worst. At least down the right sideline, if I messed up the initial catch, my strong hand (right hand) was the outside hand and helped rope the ball in. (I believe Sweed is right-handed)
This is coming from a person who caught exactly 1 TD in HS, as we ran the Wing-T. :-)

1 more catch than i had…i managed to make the JV soccer team but went out with a groin injury after hook slide tackling the orange corner cone. i was a beast.

The block 2
Would have been cool to see Sweed lay a comeback block on Nantz as the trophy was being passed around !!

My only gripe with Limas
Was the rolling around injured thing after the big drop. Own it like a man and get up off the field. Yes the drop cost us 7, but the rolling around cost us 3 – by blowing our last timeout.
Still I totally agree with Blitz. The kid came back. Great block, great catch and great point saving pass break-up on a sure interception. He may not be a big play receiver yet, but if Ike Taylor and BMac suddenly go down against Arizona, I think you put him in to cover Boldin!

Limas DID drop the Hunt
… but Washington caught it with his knees. True story.

nooo, Troy scooped it with his finger tips and saved the trophy…

i think the cardinals will give you fits deep. fitzgerald would have caught the pass clayton dropped to start the game. warner will do the same thing flacco did BUT he has receivers. they will abandon the run early and kurt will fire away, your db’s make or break you this time. kurt knows better to hold onto the ball so harrison/woodley might go empty in the sack compartment. boldin will be healed by then. this will actually be a great SB.
the plus side for Pitt.-Ben. A winner. Without Ben and his ability to take shots the Steelers ae toast/ maybe a 9-7 team tops.

this is another dumb post on my part..juts sour grapes..the steelers are solid throughout and we all know that. bens a big part but the whole teams a beast. beat the crap out of Arizona. looking forward to our off season so we can catch up to you guys a little. 3-0 really stinks..and now your up like 17-10 in our series. approaching who’s your daddy status if we don’t get some W’s soon.

I'm starting to not be pissed off about 2006 anymore
The 2007 Monday Night Beatdown Festival & Steel Curtain Reunion and Cocktail Hour helped too.

i can’t wait to watch him now that we don’t need you to lose. it will be easier to enjoy your team without the division/playoffs on the line. during the season I just don’t appreciate the competition as im too busy watching my players. thats what so great about the SB/Playoffs. finally get to relax and take it all in. i feel for you guys… how can you possibly enjoy this game. to stressful : )

heh
no kidding, every game’s a nailbiter – seriously if were up 3 TDs and were getting running 1st down after running 1st down I think I would still be nervous as heck… ;)

True
but it would be an optimistic nervous, not an “impending doom” nervous.

I don’t even wanna know what it’ll feel like if we’re trailing in that 10 point range most of the game, like the Baltimore and Dallas games. That’ll just be too nerve racking.

lol.....
great stuff… I got a kick out of that..
Could you imagine what would have happened if the Steelers would have lost that game ?
Poor Sweed would a have taken a police escort to get out of town and God only knows if one of the cop’s wouldn’t have taken a few gun shot’s at him….
I think I was more pissed about him wasting the last time-out after dropping the pass laing on the ground out of breath..
But it was great to see him respond with a big hit and a 3rd down catch against the Ravens… Hopefully he will have a great game on Sunday against the Cardinals and pull down a few balls and maybe even put up 6..
