Loss to Titans Paved Road to SB XLIII
What appeared on the surface to be a crushing defeat at the hands of the AFC's season-long clubhouse leader, ruining the chance at the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs, may have been the twist of fate that propelled the Pittsburgh Steelers into their seventh Super Bowl.
At the time, Steelers Nation longed for a statement that our guys were on the same level as a Titans team that had been widely regarded as the AFC's best team since their hot start, and subsequent early clinching of a competitive AFC South. The Steelers, as we all know, had excelled in the face of a brutal schedule, but were still searching for an offensive identity. The team overall looked flat and somewhat uninspired in a 31-14 drubbing that left more question marks than answers in the hearts and minds of the Steelers faithful, and I am sure many players and coaches.
But let us examine what could have happened had the outcome of that game been in favor of the Steelers. First off, instead of playing the Chargers in round one, they would have traveled to Nashville, and our epic battle with the hated Ravens would have been moved up a week. Assuming the Steelers prevail in the same fashion as they did Sunday, we would have been left with a somewhat beat up team having to travel to Nashville to take on a Titans team who would have likely cruised to a much less physical victory over the pretender Chargers. Ouch.
Could this team have perservered and knocked out Tennessee? Perhaps, but I know I would not have had the confidence that I had going into the Ravens game, where I just really had no doubt the Steelers would prevail. Additionally, the physical toll of playing Baltimore and Tennessee in consecutive weeks could have hampered the team in it's quest for the ultimate prize, Super Bowl ring number six.
So Tennessee did indeed win the battle on December 21, but the Steelers are now poised to win the war, and I would like to thank the Titans for their assistance.

Things did work out well so far in the playoffs.
But logically speaking, because A does not occur (our loss to Tennessee) you can’t just assume B and C (the playoff scenario you laid out) will follow.
Also, don’t get me started on them either. I’m still fired up about the disrespect they showed us. When they stomped on the TT, they were not just stompping on the Steelers and their fans, but also on Myron Cope and the city of Pittsburgh which I call “home”.
Now, while the ’09 schedule has not come out yet, we do have a home date against the Tennessee Titans. I have already circled the date Thursday, September 3 when we open up the ’09 season as SB champs!
How sweet would that be?

totally agree- sort of
The only mistake in your post is that in the scenario you describe, we wouldn’t have had to travel to Nashville as we would’ve been the number one seed.
That said, I do believe that if things had unfolded that way, I think we have a much better chance of losing to a much less beat up tennesse in the AFCC rather than the way it worked out.
Immediately following that loss, my first thought was….this may not be a bad thing.

Not the only mistake. . .
The other mistake is the fact that SB XVIII was played in 1984, before the Titans existed, making the title of the post impossible.

Only one thing matters
….and that is: the Titans are at home and the Steelers are in the Superbowl.
For all I care, they can buy a truck load of terrible towels take them to their Superbowl parties and stomp on them or use them to dry their one-and-out tears. Either way those towels support our economy and our Steelers. Their total lack of class came back to bit them in the…
I am also quite sure that Myron Cope, God bless him, is double and triple yoying the big screen in heaven, giving all angels and saints great nicknames and enjoying every moment of this Superbowl run.
I do wish we could have heard him call this next one though.

Wish he called the last one
Really wanted him to do XL and he was still alive for that one. But hey he had a pretty monstrous career so you cant fault the guy.

Butterfingers!!
I can’t believe I actually rooted for the Rat-birds in that game against Tennessee but I wanted the AFC Championship to be at home so bad.
My new name for Tennessee is the “:Butterfingers” because they couldn’t hold on to the damn ball for shit! I hope they didn’t forget their cups because their ball security was bad!! haha

Perfect playoff picture
Now to toot my horn, I called every game in the AFC round perfectly. NFC threw me for a loop though.
I personally felt this was the perfect path. The Colts concerned me, as did the Ten’Teeth Titans.
Titans certainly wore down Baltimore for us. And the Chargers really were not THAT good but were on a roll to beat Indy.
It was a perfect situation. And now we get to whoop on the cardinals.
