Dick LeBeau Sticking Around For 2009

ESPN is reporting that Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau told his players today that he'll be back for the 2009 season.  Not a huge surprise, but I for one wasn't taking it for granted--the guy is 71 years old, after all.  I'm glad he'll be around for at least one more year, and with the only potential loss being McFadden, he should have all the major pieces in place to lead a defense that makes a run at the #1 ranking once again.

"I would never make any kind of decision without the guys in that room, like my son, knowing first," LeBeau said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The way they're playing, they're going to have to run me out of here."

That actually merits a really good bottle of wine tonight

What’s interesting is that LeBeau has complete control of the decision. I heard Tomlin once say that he will run away from Lebeau if/when he ever tries to turn in his retirement. I don’t imagine alot of coordinators have that much control of their own destiny. Certainly not Arians.

lol

It’s a good point you make mary rose about him controlling his own destiny. And Arians. Imagine if he made such a statement.

Woot

This is most definitely good news for potential super bowl 44.

This was honestly my biggest offseason concern. Greater than any of our FA’s or potential drafting.

Because the way I see it, even if we do NOTHING with the line, it can only get better as a group. Plus some guys return from injury. So I feel the line gets <40 sacks next year.

Defense stays on top, and maybe improves with Timmy and the Wood bringing the pain.

Running game gets a boost with Mendy.

Honestly if our FO took a nap for the whole offseason I think we do better next year. Plus a posh sched.

News just keeps getting better and better

LeBeau coming back. and today Tomlin getting Motorola COTY. I try to be appropriately cautious about this kind of game, but I feel that all indications lead me to believe that the Steelers will deliver an extraordinary performance this Sunday, and with it the end of being able to lie in the weeds. As Mechem points out, and many have mentioned for nearly a year now, this team is not likely to peak until next year at the earliest.
