Bruce Arains - What a joke - My Distain Knows No Limits
Anyone could read through my post history and know - I do NOT like this man.
I have not been on line for a while and was getting caught up on my reading and read the article and comments on the Pittsburgh Post Gazette - posted on Thursday Jan 1st.
Has anyone else read this? I cant believe how stupid this guy sounds in response to the press about the success they had RE - Introducing the I- Formation and having a successful game with it - and with Willie Parker (Which I wrote in one of my posts - willie is an I form back).
This Moron acts like they didnt do anything different than they had done all year? I know this is supposed to come of as confidence but - my goodness are you serious? You cant just say " Yes we had some nice success with that today, and it was nice to see Willie have a strong day".
MY CONTINUED RANT
This man is Moron and represents everything wrong with what our Offense struggles with. Mark my words - when Arains is gone our offense will immediately change in consistancy and productivity. WATCH.
If you have ever played a down of football at the college or at pro level you know that a team productivity is a representation of its leaderships decisions.
We can only hope that these boys keep playing above the coaching or try to. Hey maybe Shanahan is up for just being a coordinator for little while? (jk)

eh
we were using the I formation against the browns. I think Arians was saying in not so many words that it’s one thing to execute things against the demoralized 4-11 browns who were just trying to get through the game without getting hurt, and another thing to do the same things against playoff teams…

Also,
We had the a comfortable lead in second half. How often has that occured this season? Texans, Bengals, and Browns are the only games I remember.
That being said, we do run better out of the “I” and Arians must go.

NO
Arians is great. He should be the new HC of the Browns, Denver, or Jets.

Hopefully, after we win the SB, we ship him back to the Browns.

We could even give permission for teams to talk to him if they want to.

Not a big Arians fan either, but......
I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in anything that’s said in the paper. I think Arians could possibly be trying to throw the next opponent off the scent a bit, and he also seems to be a bit stubborn at times too. The 2nd half against the Giants, and the whole game against the Eagles seemed to be pretty big indictments of either his inability to adjust the gameplan, or his stubborness to stick to whatever his original plan was.
The only thing I’m hoping for from Arians during this year’s run is that he adjusts to what is happening on the field……….and quickly.

No Command Qualities
Second. That stubborness is exactly his problem. I dont understand coaches who come into the game this day and age with a mind set like that. You have to plan on your plan NOT being able to executed LIKE WAR, and plan to not be able the plan you want to implement. Arains does not have this ability. He is WAY to old school in thought. You cant just impose – impose – impose and think they will break.
Arains cant make adjustments after the first drive which a Coordinator should be able to do – Arains has proven over two seasons and a poor work history with Clevland which he was FIRED from that he cant.
Arains you have to go. If he is not gone after this season it will shake my confidence in our head coach.

Arians will stay if....
Ben likes him and his offense. If BB doesn’t like it, he’ll probably go. Odds are he is back in 2010.

The further we go in playoffs,
the harder the case will be to fire his ass. Catch-22. I don’t see our offense doing SO well that somebody will want him, either. Wishful thinking. So I agree with you, It looks like were stuck with BA for another year. This year, let’s draft or sign 2 good players on the O line and see what happens. Im very skeptical, however.

I Dont Know????
I Dont Know – fine we go deep – maybe even go to and win the Big Dance. Why would you keep someone around whos side of the ball ranked in the bottom 10 and sometimes 5 teams in the league throughout the season? Wouldnt make sense to me – but then again…
niether does running the ball 3 times in a row with small backs on the 3 yard line but we have done that repeatedly even though we have 3 great “Hands” TE’s one of which plays fullback very well (Mchugh). Hardly anyone watches the fullback on the goaline but we are yet to see this out of Bruce Error – ains.

Like Franz said,
Maybe BB likes him. They both arrived here in 2004. Arians was the receivers coach until he got promoted to OC after Tomlin was hired. I don’t think they would have promoted a guy to OC that BB DIDN’T like.
Also, remember, BA was Peyton Manning’s first NFL QB coach, which is really his only claim to fame (unless we win the SB), but not a bad one.

Good points
The other possible issue is his contract. Any idea how many years he has left?
Probably a great guy to have a beer with but I can’t stand his offensive philosophy!

No kidding
He plays Spaeth with Miller as 2 TE set and asks Spaeth to block as TE with Miller as the wing?? If you watch Spaeth on run plays, you will see a scarecrow getting his ass beat badly most downs. He can catch but can’t run well. About the only place he’s effective is goalline or short yardage as a receiver where the QB can throw to his height advantage.
McHugh blocks well in the FB position even though he is tall. I don’t think they use him nor the I formation with him as FB nearly as much as they could. McHugh would be a good pass threat on play-action and should be paired with Davis in short yardage. Or, how about McHugh at Y, Miller at Z, Davis at FB and Russell at RB in short yardage/goalline??!!!
Why in the hell he has Parker or Moore in there to run the ball against a stacked defense is beyond me. Almost every NFL team can run an off-tackle play for a yard no matter what the defense does. You have to play the people who can perform in street fight conditions when it comes down to getting a TD or settling for a FG. I have always agreed w/ Chuck Noll’s sentiments about field goals… they are a part of the game but you don’t want to count on them to win the game for you.
Agghhh !!! Don’t get me started on this offense/Arians………
