Wild Card weekend worked out perfectly!!!
I wanted San Diego the whole time and even though it would be better to get the Dolphins, you have to look at the scenario.
We can take out San Diego if Big Ben is good with his decision-making and utilizes the screen pass. Our defense will shine and Sproles/Tomlinson will not have a big game like they did to the Colts because if you look at the Colts defense and then you look at ours, its night and day. The Colts D was too simple, they let Sproles run all over them and gave Rivers too many passes under. We play a lot like the Ravens D, very aggressive and as many of you saw, the Ravens defense gave the Dolphins a headache.
Now for the great news about Baltimore, they will face the Titans and will probably win in a hard fought battle. My thoughts on this...let them scrap it out and by the time the winner advances to see us, they will be all banged up and there will possibly be a few injuries. San Diego is already playing hurt, and we already had a week of rest so by the time we get to the AFC Championship, and if the Ravens win, we get home field advantage against a banged-up Ravens team.
As far as the matchup with San Diego, it will be our Special Teams against the Chargers Special Teams. Their punter wil give us bad field position but it is up to Big Ben to get us out of it. The defense will do their job but the offense needs to get a spark and score early.
Can't wait until the game....

You are very wise young grasshopper. My thoughts exactly. Tenn and B-more are going to beat the living hell out of eachother. If god is a Steeler fan. Then it should be either snowing or raining in Pitt during our whooping of the Chargers. We will need a very alert and wise Ben to keep us going to the AFCC. Our defense will top Rivers’ frustration he had dealing with the Colts soft cover defense. With everyone healthy and raring to go. I see us taking this one by two scores. Shut down the run and play the pass. Picks and turnovers will be the downfall of the Chargers in our house, again.

I love it!!
I am fired up… and I am going to be distracted all week at work. I feel that week off is really going to refresh our defense. They have playing at a high level, but Woodley will have some fresher legs along with the d-line and harrison.
We have a chance to host the AFCCG, or get a little revenge for “towell” stomping. It doesn’t get much better than this.

as steeler fans
we should be able to take the week off work in preparation for an important week, how can they expect us to be productive

defense defense defense
History has nothing to do with outcomes in future games…thats why its history, its what happend before ! I believe this game will be another low scoring game, hopefully weather will not be a factor, but its January in Pittsburg. I have seen a change in the chargers defensive since the change of coordinators..Rivera has the defense playing much more aggresive which does leave our corners in a single coverage situation, not the best…so pressure on Big Ben is our key .. on the offense the chargers must take it down the field a little at a time and not face 3rd and long situations…A balance attack is a key to most championship teams and plus on the take away give aways…I have always admired the Steelers of the 70’s and do believe you have a great organization..Cant wait till next Sunday…May the best team win !!!

Holy crap
A classy Charger fan. May the best team win indeed. Given Houcholi isn’t there to botch the calls one way or the other

screen pass
While I would love to use the screen we have two problems there.
First, ben throws a horrible screen. Side armed and low line drive, frequently batted at the line.
Second, our lineman when pulling out for a screen whiff hard.
But regardless I think this was the best outcome. The Colts to me were a threat. The balti-whores dont bother me much. 2 wins worked, why not 3.
I think we play Baltimore in 2 weeks though.

I agree but.....
If Ben throws the late screen, a play action pass looking down field and then dump it to Moore, it almost always works for at least a 10 yard gain. There has been far too many times when I see Moore opening up for the screen and nobody is there especially on man-to-man coverage. The only problem is the O-line giving Ben enough time for the play-action. (crossing fingers)

Damn
Worked out perfectly? What are we, chopped liver? You’d rather play the team that went to the AFC Championship last year and just beat the hottest team (according to many) entering the playoffs than the freaking Dolphins? Man, we’ve reached a new low. It’s time to play the underdog role I guess.
We don’t have a chance. Please just take it easy on us. In fact, you should probably just play your whole 2nd string so you can be sure to stay healthy for the sure AFCCG the week after. Better yet, you should let Polamalu play for us so he doesn’t get rusty.

You're not "chopped liver".
You are a 9-8 football team that narrowly loss to us a little over a month ago in the first ever 11-10 game in NFL history.

Don't get me wrong
I have no problem with the underdog role. And you have every right in the world to expect to beat us. You are coming off a bye. You’re playing at home. You are 12-4 while we are 9-8. You are 6 point favorites in Vegas. Our best player is probably out on offense, and is definitely out on defense (Merriman). You have the best defense in the NFL. You should be confident. You should win. I remember feeling many of the same things 2 years ago when we went 14-2. Man, that had to be the most disappointed I’ve ever felt after a loss because of the expectations.

you guys did a number on em
By the rights your folks shoulda had 30 points to their 10. Stupid no huddle caught ya off guard.
I fully had your back in that one also. I personally feel the Colts give us more matchup issues than the Chargers. Hence why we are happy :) Nothing personal.
If I had it my way, I’d like a lineup of Chiefs and Bengals and then Lions to win the championship. But alas thats not how it goes.

True, true. I’d rather play us than the Colts, too.

You guys aren't "chopped liver"...
I think the Chargers are a great team and a much improved one since mid-season but my worries of Big Ben’s decision-making and our O-line caused me to look at the playoff scenario a little differently. I based my post off of experience, I did not want to play the Colts because of Peyton and his clutch performances in the playoffs. I ranked the Chargers second but I rather wanted to play you guys and let the Ravens and Titans duke it out before the AFCC. The Dolphins are the least expperienced. Personally I don’t think you guys would match up well with Tennessee but that’s my opinion. The Chargers are a great team and I think you guys match up with us the best in in terms of your D verses our offense. I’m hoping for our defense to give Rivers a lot of trouble and Sproles doesn’t get comfortable…HE IS AMAZING and can very well be LT’s replacement if LT can’t get over ijuries and Sproles stays consistent. Good Luck on Sunday and may the best team win.

Question is...
Do you think the Chargers are a great team?
by SoCalSteelerFan on Jan 5, 2009 1:17 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think we are a TALENTED team…do I think the 2008 Chargers are great? Hell no. I also don’t think we suck as bad as the record indicates. I think we sucked that bad for the first half of the year, and got way better as time went on. Thank god this isn’t the BCS.

Chargers are not a complete team
But then again neither are we, but at least we have a defense capable of winning the game on its own. Rivers, along with everyone in the league not named Manning got owned this year. This game will come down to whether or not Ben throws stupid ints. Once the Chargers are unable to run the ball, Rivers will be a sitting duck.

The chargers aren’t a complete team.
The titans aren’t a complete team.
There’s another team I know of that isn’t complete, and it’s in Pittsburgh.

Wow - how true
What is it about ‘Burgh fans and their cynicism? I’m right there with the rest of the realistic (or glass half-empty) Steelers fans. It may be true that we see them every week and are therefore more attuned to their weaknesses, but I agree that Pittsburgh fans are enthusiastic while still critical of their teams and their flaws.
Three reasons the Steelers will beat the Chargers:
- Sproles will be contained
- Rivers will be harrassed
- Pittsburgh will run the ball enough to keep Bolts guessing
Three reasons to be hopeful if playing the Titans next:
- Steelers coaches keep Roethlisbungle on a short leash in a close game
- Steelers will have new stuff on O and D not previously shown
- Mawae is hurt and Collins will get hit this week – a lot.
